Loanees – Szczęsny Completes Brentford Loan

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

In the Championship, Henri Lansbury played 90 minutes before being subbed off in stoppage time as Watford lost 2-1 to struggling Peterborough United. Lansbury had two good chances to score, one via a free kick and one from open play, but he couldn’t stop the Hornets from slipping to defeat.

Elsewhere Jay Simpson played 58 minutes of QPR’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United. New manager Paul Hart subbed off Simpson with half an hour left after a decent performance from the striker. In League One, Gavin Hoyte was an unused sub in Brighton’s defeat against Swindon while Wojciech Szczesny completed his loan spell with Brentford by turning in a superb performance in a 1-0 win over MK Dons. Rhys Murphy didn’t get off the bench in that game.

Turning the attention to overseas, Pedro Botelho didn’t get off the Celta Vigo bench in their 1-1 draw with Las Palmas, and Havard Nordtveit should start once more in the right of midfield for Nuremberg as they face Cologne later today.

Szczesny is the best ever keeper to pull on the Brentford colours (my little team!) bar none. And Brentford have had some decent keepers over the past thirty five yeers.

He is technically good, brave, comes off his line and for a big ‘un can get down too. Not the finished article but I am sure he will bge the next great Arsenal keepr.

By being witrh the Bees in Londfon,. he still trains with Arsenal a couple of times a week so is still under his pecialist coach which is a plus.

The word is he will stay at Brentford over Christmas as he cannot go anywhere else now until January and he is getting very competitive games. Playing Leeds or Charlton in the 1st Division is great experience for the young man.

Go see him if you can any west London based Gooners if he does stay a bit longer. Football is quite good too in a lower division sort of way.

weatch my (cyber) lips —- he is going to be a truly great keeper.

WHAT! are they playing Nordveit in the right of midfield? What’s the use in that? Has he been playing there recently or is this just a one time thing? I thought he always played DM for them.

    Good post Mike,

I think he should stay for the rest of the season tbh. No use in coming back as we already have (at least) 2 GK ahead of him in the pecking order. Maybe he wants a higher level? I don’t know.

But I tell ya, everytime I watch lower league football it looks a hell of a lot of fun, if it wasn’t for Arsenal the premiership could go fuck themselves with their oil sheiks and russian oligarchs.

Maybe I’ll adopt Brentford as my second team. Good luck!

Don’t get me wrong, he looks very good, and I have high hopes for him, but for all those saying he should be our No.1 this/next season need to take another look. His style is in many ways highly ‘unorthodox’, some of the positions he takes up are pretty dodgy. He may come too extreme towards the near post, for example. In League 1 this should be fine, because not many players have the technical level to thread through the right ball and punish him, but if this fails him in the Premiership he’ll be barraged with criticism for a while and may struggle. He’s a great prospect but has a lot to work on.

I’ve been to Brentford’s last 2-3 games and Szczesny has quite honestly won points for them in almost every one.

Yesterday, at MK Dons he was absolutely amazing, I second Mike when he says go to watch lower league football – the quality will surprise you.

Wow you made that sound believable. You can’t remember how many Brentford games you’ve been to since the Woj has been with them, and if you’ve been to 2-3 games, winning points for them in almost every one is pretty inspecific. If you want to say something, you can say it, but its pretty pathetic to have to pretend to be an ameteur Arsenal scout to get yourself noticed.

WOJCIECH Szczesny has lifted the lid on the tunnel bust-up with Colchester on Tuesday night.

The Brentford keeper, on a month’s loan from Arsenal, was involved in a confrontation with a member of the U’s backroom staff after the Bees 1-0 win.

Boss Andy Scott was keen to play down the incident, but the Polish international insists he was provoked.

He said: “The fans were giving me some stick so I gave some back.

“Then one of their backroom staff swore at me so I gave him a bit of attitude. He got involved for no reason, and I told him what I thought of him.

“I didn’t want to get involved in a fight – he was only about 4ft11ins! I don’t think I’m ever going to play for Colchester!”

TO be fair though are Res. Team now looks very stronger. But only Johan Djourou and Nicklas Bendtner made out that team. Gilbert will be gone soon. Fabrice Muamba doing well at bolton. Anthony Stokes and Arturo Lupoli look good but both could not cut it. And Lansbur and Jay Simpson are halfway at Arsenal at momment. So this shows are Res Team Now has got much more talent in it which has more players who could make it at us. But I dont know. I agree about Raheem Sterling we dont no if he will be as good as people are saying.

I take it everyone saw the two, two page spreads in The Mail about the Arsenal Youth System in the past couple of days. Quite a nice read – on hard copy at least. They did an interview with Pongo. I can’t help thinking a loan spell giving him a taste of the real world would be a good idea and might just shake him up a bit.
