Esbjerg FB youngster Lasse Vigen Christensen admits his recent trial with Arsenal was a ‘massive experience’ but he’s yet to find out whether it will lead to a permanent move. The Denmark Under 16 captain spent four days at London Colney in December and was due to play in a Under 16 game only for it to be postponed due to heavy snow. Speaking via his agents, he said:
“It was a massive experience for me to stay and train four days at Arsenal. I trained with the Under 18’s and I think things went quite well. The standard and intensity was very high.”
“I coped quite well so it was just great. I regard the whole trip as a good learning experience and keep many good memories.”
Arsenal have stepped up their scouting in Scandinavia in recent months and have previously had a handful of promising Danish prospects for tests. The success of Nicklas Bendtner has trailed a blaze and many believe it’s only a matter of time before 15-year-old Christensen joins Nicklas in leaving his homeland for one of Europe’s leading lights.
A box-to-box 5 foot 10 inch central midfielder, Lasse has scored 9 goals in 12 games for Esbjerg’s Under 17’s this term despite his tender age. His elegant passing style coupled with a tenacious nature add up to an exciting prospect for the future, but how ready he would be for a move to England now, the club don’t know.
The Gunners will be certain to continue watching this promising starlet who has recently been selected for the Danish Under 17 team.

A lot of really good players from that region we have failed to notice, or who’s talent we have failed to appreciate. Ibrahimovic could have been ours if Wenger was willing to bid for him outright as opposed to having him on trial. Other players like Hangeland have also slipped our attention
We need more scandanavian youngsters at the academy. We have always done pretty well with players from that region of Europe.
Hopefully Liam Brady will unearth the next Anders Limpar or Red Fred soon.
Oh, finally some new midfielder, I tought we’ll never buy one…
Yes another ‘central midfielder’. Isn’t obvious why we have so many of them?
Building blocks. As far as football players go the central midfielder is generally the best all round, they maybe not as good at defending as a defender or not as good at going past players as a winger …, but generally they have the best basics with good ball control and at an early age can be shaped into whatever, baring goalkeeper of course.
I would prefer it if we signed every single Brazilian U17 rather than the Danes, but a few Laudrups might go down well :)
His stats look good. Lets see how he performs with 17 and under team.
as a rule of thumb, danes are nice people too!
on other players, how is luke freeman doing? he is a big striker but doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere near the first team squad?
anyone seen him play this season???
and szczesny now wants to extend his stay at brentford – it is a mutual love in between the fans and the young ‘keeper! he is very special.
That region is a great place to find centerbacks.
not hyped about this guy, dosnt sound to be on the same level as others we’ve just signed.
Jeeeeeeeeeez, can we look at something other than creative midfielders?
But yeah, the usual spiel: hope he turns out to be the next Cesc Fabregas blah blah blah.
Good job on reporting it though, J.
Thank God for this, I was wondering when we were going to get a CM , we havent got any have we.
What’s with AW and his central midfielders? I wonder …..
If we do sign him and he turns out like bendtner we are in for a treat..
I think you’ll find the phrase is blaze a trail, not trail a blaze. You’re welcome.
I have seen Christensen play during some summer tournament in Kobenhavn, and I can’t say how delighted I am that he underwent a trial with us (meaning I support Arsenal FC). He’s a very special player, great character, determination (quite similar to Vermaelen), and besides that he’s very aggressive and has great stamina so I’d say he’s a little Gerrard with great potential.
well we need more central midfielders because if seems at any one point we have at least 13 of them injured. Those guys are made of plastic, now Merida is out. What a shame after a good cameo against Bolton. This was his chance to shine. I hope he makes it before the Stoke game, I bet he would be in for a start.
Everyone has to admit, we might be the “softest” team in the prem. Obviously not counting serious injuries like broken bones but man….Every game it seems like 4 or 5 pick up “knocks”. Hasnt Arshavin been playing with a messed up foot….maybe we should sign more russians or change our physio.
Yeah, Or sign a few bulky players, Or non-Injury prone ones lol z
supposingly arsenal after england under 21 defender chris smalling would he be covered on this site he plays for football, but is expected if he joins not to be first team straight away i would be interested in this as i know his family, and to see your take on him
Guys I hate to admit it but A TON OF FOOTBALLERS ARE WIMPS!!! I can’t stand them!! I still love the game but I hate the way the players conduct themselves if they are touched or slightly fouled. And believe you me, I’ve been fouled hard in matches, and I’ve played through injuries. The way these players conduct themselves is appauling. I squirm every time a player, let alone an Arsenal player tries to draw a foul, or a card for the oppostion by whining. If you are truly hurt, or if someone gives you a hard foul, then fine. I have never understood the benefits of trying to draw fouls by diving or bitching, or rolling around like you have just met the business end of a machine gun, but that’s just me I guess. The way these players look, it sickens me. I know it’s a totally different culture than what I am used to ,but I don’t think it matters where you are from, at times these players truly look rediculous, and anyone would admit that. I know this is off topic, but it all comes back to the same thing really. If you have a busted ass the trainers should be holding you back, so that you don’t induce further injury. I’ll never understand this part of the game. Just because you are injured, even seriously, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play, and yes I realize there are millions of dollars at stake, but it has and is ruining the image of the game. The game deffinately comes with a stigma attatched to it. Especially in North America, and I can understand why.
on another note, is there any news on batrovic – its all gone quiet since the summer on this one. he looked pretty special, but seeing as the platini rule is coming in, surely its now or never to get these kids in?
MY GOD I AM STARTING TO GET REALLY PISSED OFF NOW NOT ANOTHER CENTRAL MIDFIELDER. WE NEED WINGERS AND FULL BACKS!!
Anyone else been watching some of the keepers at the African Nations Cup?
