Sunu In Talks Over New Deal As Loan Looms

Arsenal’s Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis is holding talks with Gilles Sunu this week over extending his contract. The club want to get the Frenchman’s long-term future decided before he is loaned to one of three Championship club’s who have been in touch regarding a short-term deal.

Sunu joined the Gunners from Chateauroux in 2007 and was a key member of the Under 18 side which won the Premier Academy League and FA Youth Cup double, scoring 11 times. He thrived in the striker role after previously looking shaky down the middle and being operated as a winger – a position which he featured in when he played the closing stages of the Champions League clash with Olympiacos earlier this season.

Gilles has often found life in London difficult and was previously interested in a return to France with Lyon, but the move never came to fruition. Instead Arsène Wenger has indicated that he sees Sunu as an option for the future, this was confirmed when he was handed a start in the Carling Cup in a 2-0 win over West Brom. However, in order to progress to the next level and complete his development, he needs game time.

Blackpool were in touch at the start of the campaign, but they were rebuffed due to the contract issue and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas headed to the coast instead. Derby County are the latest club to be linked, yet early reports that they are in talks are a little premature, but the Rams do hold an interest. Sunu wants reassurances over his future especially after Sanchez Watt penned extended terms and was moved into the first-team on a regular basis.

A new deal should be place well before Gilou’s birthday in March, when he turns 19.

Arsene Wenger said last night it was best that both club’s don’t speak about the deal, so Hodgson’s comments suggest he’s trying to deflect attention, like Wenger wants. I doubt Wenger would call Hodgson if he wanted Smalling, it would be an issue for Gazidis and Fulham’s MD.

No Dzeko was not at the Emirates.

J, Wenger has said he has a list of every player in every position, in order of the ones he wants. I dont think it is a random as people thinks. He has a clear mind on who he wants but transfers are not easy when you work on a budget.

Spot on Samuel, thank you very much!

I think we all need to use common sense in the transfer market. Most websites and newspapers who have proven themselves as mischief makers in the past shouldn’t be believed. Most people agree that Myles Palmer talks out of his arse, he doesn’t even support Arsenal, so why believe him now and listen to his rubbish? just because you want it to be true, doesn’t mean it is.

Surely Craig Eastmond would be the obvious option for right back at Stoke. Despite the attempt to re-invent him as a defensive midfielder (on which the jury is still out), if Wenger trusts him to play in the first team at all, he’s surely got to trust him in the position where he’s had most experience.

J, on another point – and apologies if you’ve said it elsewhere – but what’s happened to Sanchez Watt in recent weeks? He hasn’t been on the bench for the first team despite our lack of forward options, and he wasn’t in the squad for the reserves vs West Ham, so has he slipped back down the pecking order, and if so, is there any explanation why?

Big it up dude, always top quality here.

If our injuries clear, we don’t need anyone. With 10 players out we are still top of the league. No one we buy now will be ready to play manure or the chavs, not as part of our team passing game. After that, we have the players needed to roll. Just need to get through the next 20 days.

Craig Eastmond will never play at RB, Arsene has given his reasons for pushing him to the middle. Stop slating Craig because Song, Denilson, Diaby were very poor for years before getting to this level. From what I’ve seen so far, I think Craig has more potential as a defensive midfielder than Denilson. His passing, heading ability and positioning are far better and you can see him as a regular fixture in months to come.

Although you can’t say he will “Never play at right back” should you?? lol. It probably won’t be his position but he could play a few games there in the future and in his career if injuries, suspensions etc. Occur. But I really like him. He plays with a lot of guile and intellegence and he doesn’t seem to be as jumpy and prone to indiscipline as Denilson. He seems much calmer. I’ve only seen Eastmond around 6 or 7 times though so I can’t make a final judgement or anything. Denilson is good, but I think Eastmond can become even better.

Diaby, Denilson and Song were poor for years….that is a ridiculous comment. Song was a quality centerback and was had the same qualities this year as he had last year. The difference is change in formation. He was never going to be a good def mid in a 4-4-2 because he isnt the energetic type that covers alot of ground. He is a calm powerful player with good ball control and passing. He is able to dominate a certain area on the pitch which is what he is asked to do in a 4-3-3 right behind the other 2 mids. Diaby was always a quality talent and who ever disagrees was simply blind. Thierry Henry said ” I have never seen a player adapt to the premier league as fast as Denilson has.” not to mention he was caption of Brazil u20 team. Stop defending every player with the same excuse because those were all ignorant comments that people made about those 3 and doesnt have any affect on a logical comment about a different player.

For Joe- Craig Eastmond played rightback because he was not rated as high as some of the other centermids and you can only play so many centermids in a game. This year, Eastmond has obviously improved and has earned his position in the midfield which was always his normal position.

For the other people- Craig Eastmond is obviouly improving and has a bright future. No one is denying that and no one comment on this comment with the same lame excuses and arguement because I am not playing down his potential….Now with that being said, as a premier league player RIGHT NOW, it is crazy for anyone to say he had a good game in the last 2 and that you have confidence in him as a prem player right now. He barely made a takcle, got caught on the ball alot and his passing percentage was horrible. It is crazy when people say he had a great game. Also it is irritating to hear people defend every English player when if it was Denilson everyonnewoul have been saying how poor he was. Stop defending everyone comments. Great potential but right now he isnt ready for the prem. He could prove me wrong but from the first couple games that seems pretty obvious.

I agree too Haven. I can see Craig making it here. I really can. He keeps things simple. Never tries to be over-elaborate but he also likes to get the ball forward quickly if possible. When he bulks up in a year or two, he’ll feature a lot more. It’s his calmness that impresses me the most.

TJ Da Goon- Sometimes to me, there is a small line between calm and indecisive. When you start getting caught on the ball, that is when you look indecisive. Of course this is a quality that he will get better at the older he gets. Look at Song, he looks like the calm player in the world now and hardly ever gets caught on the ball.

Shane, shane, shane. Denilson’s last game was horrible. granted he got injured but still. Eastmond played a very good first half in the 1st Bolton game. His second half was bad, but he probably can build on that if and when he starts another game. I don’t dislike Denilson. Just when it looks like he has turned the corner, he has a bad game like the one against Everton. It’s like what Diaby was doing before this year. He’ll improve and he’ll be a mainstay in the squad. And just because I like Eastmond doesn’t mean I think he has to take Denilson’s position. Who knows what types of players Wenger will want in the midfield 3?? or will he even stick to the 4-3-3 in the future?? Who knows how strong Eastmond will become. He certainly has the hight and if he fills out, he could take Song’s position if or when Song leaves or moves on.

I may be wrong, but at least that’s how I remember it. I’m too lazy to search for highlights lol. To me Denilson was weak in every way against Everton. So were a lot of other players until they got into the game, but he stayed weak and crept off with an injury. I dunno, it seems like you are the one putting blinders on when it comes to these two players.

By the way to me, while they both have potential, Coquelin is the one to me that has the bigger upside. I dont know why he has fallen down the pecking order, but between him and Eastmond…Eastmond looks like he could be a decent player but doesnt look like he has many “special” qualities. Eastmond got the lowest player rating of all the Arsenal players in the first game verse Bolton by skysports. He was subbed out in the 63 minute when we were up, for an attacking mid. That is really early and odd seeing as they were up and a defense would be what you would need. You would never see him sub Song out at that time or even Denilson. Just admit it, he wasnt playing that great.

I think some common sense needs to be applied before people wholesale slate guys like Denilson and Arshavin for recent performances.

On top of our horrendous casualty list, it is known that Arshavin has been limited by a bad foot, preventing him from kicking properly, as well as playing out of position.

Denilson was rushed back at the earliest opportunity with Song gone, but no doubt is still limited in his movement and is not fully recovered.

If these 2 alone were removed from the squad to allow them proper recovery, where would we be?

Yet we keep winning and we are top of the league…my god, what else do you want?

And I’m not going to take “Sky Sports” ratings into consideration Shane. I saw the effin game. I think he played a solid first half, and a weak second half. Denilson played weakly in both halves of the Everton game, and then bailed with what looked like an effing heart attack. Yeah that’s right, he bailed. He wasn’t up for it. That’s how angry you’re getting me. You’re making me say something I really wanted to keep to myself, but hey I got a big mouth a big temper and a small brain. HE IS WEAK!!! WEAK!!! He can get better but he is weak and ideally I wouldn’t have him OR Eastmond in the midfield. They both aren’t ready, but after all the chances Denilson has been given I would be expecting him to play better than Eastmond. But he’s only shading him by a hair.

No, that doesnt meen you should say he cant improve on it because he can. Sometimes I think we forget how big of a club we are and where a club like this, ambitions are. Sometimes I think we accapt average in a few positions wich we just simply cant at a club like this. Here is the clubs we compete with in football…Chelsea,Man Utd, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Intermilan, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, and Juventus. These are our true competition in the world of football. Thats why we have to set such high standards. With that being said, we have a great team and some very strong points, but goal keeper, back up centerback, back up def mid, striker depth are not some of them. People say you are only as strong as your weakest link. There is no point in building a great team only to let your weak points hold you back from getting over the final hurdle. Remember the champs league loss to liverpool when Senderous got burn twice by Hyppia and Torres? Remember how bad Sylvestre was as we got knocked out to Man utd last year and how bad he was verse chelsea in the fa cup? Remember the almost impossible angle goal by Belleti that went between Almunias legs in the Champs league final? All that hard work for players that just arent good enough for Arsenal, to get burnt.

Now Sagna is out. HE’S the one with the bad shoulder. Diaby has a calf strain. Sagna’s injury seems to be a bit lighter than Diaby’s. Let the mayhem ensue lol.

Toughest part of the schedule and we will be with out our first and 2nd choice striker, Our first choice holding mid, our first and 2nd choice centermid partner for Fabregas, Our first and 2nd choice right back. This is ridiculous.

Sagna should only be out for the Stoke game according to Wenger. I think Coquelin will get the nod at RB against Stoke.

The point about Arshavin is he’s copping the same slagging from some people as Denilson is here. These guys are not 100% fit and being rushed back often to play out of position.

I think some people need to back off, cool off, switch to decaf or something else. I don’t know why there is a need to slag off our guys when they’re trying their best under the circumstances and the squad collectively have actually put us top of the table.

If that’s the best you can contribute as a so-called supporter it’s f’ing sad.

OzGoonerGuy…No one is giving guys a hard time that are under performing because of an injury. You know what…I am not responding anymore to baby fans who support the team with kid gloves. I think every top Arsenal player would agree that they dont want to put in effort only to lose because a couple players arent good enough. You do realize players are sold because either they arent good enough or they want to move to a bigger club. Why do you think was sold by Man Utd to there rival genius? The squad is great, but has a few weak links and everyone knows it. We have come close alot in recent years but weak links hold you back. Comon Sense tells you that. Real supporter…what real supporter doesnt want their team to do the best the can?

    Premiership stats last season (rank):

    Attmpted tackles – 128 (2nd)

    Tackles per game – 3.6 (4th)

    Successful tackles – 77.3% (5th)

    Interceptions – 155 (1st)

    Interceptios per game – 4.3 (1st)

    Passes – 2533 (1st)

    Pass Completion – 87.3% (5th)

    3 goals and 4 assists

This player is apparently not only shit, but not even as good as a player who has only played 3 games and was only decent in 1.5. I’m not knocking Eastmond, I like him, I just think it’s utterly ridiculous to say he is, or will be, a better option than the player who had those stats last year.

I know Pete. I didnt argue the Denilson vs Eastmond point because it wouldnt ever end. Denilson is a good sqaud player and a good player in the three if we need to go more defensive alongside Fabregas and Song. I just dont think he is a player for the Song role because he just isnt a dominate kind of player. He is reliable and a good squad player.

I know, I can see Americas and Americans faults a bit more clearly as a foreigner coming into your country. There are some major faults, like any country, bus as individuals , you are a very loving and welcoming population.

Ps. I hear a lot of anti-english stuff in america aswell.
