Video – Arsenal's Outstanding Wellington For Fluminense

The hype around Arsenal’s promising young forward Wellington Silva continued over the weekend as he turned in an oustanding performance to turn the game for parent club Fluminense. Needing a win over São Bernardo to continue in the tournament, Flu went 2-0 down before the Silva show earned them a win.

The 17-year-old first showed his goal scoring instincts by curling home following a knock down, before showing his superb close control to beat three players and then pull off a Ronaldinho style ‘no look pass’ for the equalizer. Wellington then tricked his way into the box and was pulled down for a penalty – which was scored. A 3-2 win was unlikely but fantastic. You can see the highlights below and more videos of Silva Here.

This Wellington plays for Fluminense’s youth team, not their first team, per my friend in Rio. They have a senior player who is also named Wellington.

This IS the right Wellington. This kid is phenomenal. He has the potential to be as big as Messi. His skills are actually a notch better than Messi. I really cannot wait to see him play for Arsenal next year.

Yep, it’s Wellington Silva. Can’t be two of those, and he’s ours baby.

What a cheeky penalty at the end – sangue frio.

But come on, when will he actually move to London? When that happens how will he cope. He’s from Rio. The adjustment will be difficult. What sort of young man will he be when he arrives in N5? There is a lot of water under the bridge still to come. Messi? You are having a laugh! He’s bridged the chasm. He’s a done deal and will only get better. Doing a trick on the halfway line in some second rate cup competition against who? Sao Bernardo? They aren’t in Serie A or Serie B.

Still, Wellington is exciting. Here’s a link to an interview in Portuguese: http://video.globo.com/Videos/Player/Esportes/0,,GIM1188348-7824-WELLINGTON+SILVA+SONHO+EM+JOGAR+NO+PROFISSIONAL+DO+FLUMINENSE+COM+O+MARACANA+LOTADO,00.html

the second goal for flumenase.. was a reload.. i went back to c what he done. i think he better then robinho.. more direct! but lets see how arsenal changes him.. so he adds more of a end produt in the top class.. ive been waiting for arsenal to buy more flair quick players.. our standerd speed players that uses dere mind like nasri, whilsere, rosicky, eduardo.and so on.. we only have a few dt can kil a team.. fabregas, ashavin, van persie and walcott.. and walcott aint really got dt kiler instinct yet like messi. and ronaldo got his when he was like 21 22. its look like a bright future for arsenal.. just hope we get a flair squick striker to scare teams like henry did.. damn i miss that guy!

The penalty was actually terrible and illegal. Not sure how the referee allowed it to stand. The kicker stopped his kick and continued again after the keeper committed himself.

PLEASE NOT ANOTHER YOUNG CENTEAL MIDFIELDER. HOW MANY MORE BLOODY CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS ARE ARSENAL GOING TO BUY.

WE NEED SOME WINGERS AND SOME QUALITY FULL BACKS NOT MORE CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS.

BUT I HAVE TO SAY HES 17 AND HES CAPTAINS THE BOLIVA UNDER 21 TEAM SO HE MUST BE PRETTY GOOD

everytime “we need more wingers” why? most teams dont play with your old fashioned type of wingers anymore and we have andrey, rvp, theo, vela, wilshere, rosicky an nasri who can play that kind of position we dont need more wingers.

I watched the kid vs Brazil in the south american qualifiers. He does play in the center, but he is very good. He is left footed and has great vision.

For the last time people for anyone that is confused… Our wellington has short hair, is right footed and seems to always wher number 20 and plays at winger or up top and is born in 93 And his name is Welington “Silva”…..the other Wellington has a kinda Afro, is left footed, is a mostly a center mid, born in 92 and is called by just Wellington.

He is trying to replace Fabregas, who might want a move away ;(
TBH, Stephane Sessegnon would be a better option.

Stephane Sessegnon is good but would cost more than 10 million pounds. Plus he is more of a flair guy verse a consistent player like Fabregas. Plus Wellington Silva has nothing to do with Fabregas.

Phil D- Fredy Adu was over hyped because of age fraud. He simply put was older then 14 when he started playing which is the reason why he hasnt grown since then.

Shane, I was talking about Sammy Galindo. I meant I would prefer Sessegnon to a 17 year old. Sessegnon can play as a play maker aswell.

Shane – sorry mate I didnt realise that about Adu. Even so I do think people get carried away a little bit when we sign all these young players. For example, take Carlos Vela. There is no doubt the lad has a lot of talent but he was being held up as the new messiah and as soon as he came to England he was going to start every match and be the solution to every little last problem. Not really the case is it? When Galindo and Silva eventually arrive the hype machine will be in serious overdrive again. Nothing wrong with getting excited about signings, but no need to go overboard either. How many south americans are really that dominant in the premiership anyway?
