Afobe Goals Help England Win Algarve Tournament

England Under 17’s have won the Algarve Tournament. A 0-0 draw with hosts Portugal in the scenic Parque Desportivo de Nora region of Ferreiras secured the title.

Arsenal duo Chuks Aneke and Benik Afobe were both involved in the competition and both started the final game. Newly signed professional Benik was on target to salvage a draw with France in the opening fixture, before being rested for a 3-0 win over Ukraine. Chuks played the full 90 minutes and impressed.

The highly regarded tournament has previously been won by Kyle Bartley and Sanchez Watt, who have since gone on to play for their country at Under 19 level. The pair are now enjoying loan spells away from the club and this latest batch of Three Lions look set to go the same way.

Also on the international front, Zak Ansah bagged the winner for England’s Under 16’s in a friendly with Belgium last week. The striker has been talked about recently following comments made to Arsenal fans via Social Networking site Facebook, but that has clearly not affected his form in front of goal.

I like the new look, i’ve been following your site for a while but have never commented, but now that i have my own arsenal blog i feel i should say something :)..
Good job on reporting a unique feature of the club – the young talent – which could easily be overlooked. If you get a chance please read my blog :)

i would try play afobe in first team as we dont have other options tbh, he might be young but i think he could do better job then some of our strikers

    J. your new style is great. Are these rumours true Sunu is probably off to Bordeaux? I think he would make a bad mistake as I am sure he can make it here.

Keep up the good work mate

I’m stunned, new design is just fantastic! Excellent job Jamie, keep it up!

Great to see Afobe and Aneke to play for national team, but it’s interesting why there wasn’t Luke Freeman when he’s scoring regulary now at Arsenal. Definitely the first teamers in next couple of years.

Probably because he was ineligible to play, Freeman born in 92, Chuks and Benik in 93.

I hope Aneke understands he’s a Nigerian and ultimately switches to come play for the Super Eagles.

He was born in and has grown up in England unlike Emmanuel Frimpong so why would he play for a country he was not born in.

The site looks classy but it’s now harder to find things. I wanted to know about recent reserve games – when, for example, did Merida last play or is he still injured? – but gave up in the end. Information about the young players is surely what most people come here for, so it should be quick and easy to access.

yeah he did and did a pretty good job.
I hope he sign a new long term contract then Wenger will probably send him out on loan to EPL or La Liga team and then he will slot straight into the first team

Imagine a day when 90% of the england first team consists of Arsenal players.
I wonder if we’ll have as much haters as we do now with this whole anti arsenal followers crap

    J. the new site looks great. Always love your site but this is a big improvement. Thanks!

I feel Aneke is a very likely Arsenal first teamer. Not as certain about Afobe and Freeman, but on their current form its hard to bet against them. its just thet form can change so dramaticly with young players, and as well with the striker position. Very glad we’ve got those players. They look a top-notch trio!

Benik has certainly signed the new contract. He signed it on Monday before going away with England. He was 17 on Friday but because he was going to be away he signed the deal early.

I think the Bordaux stuff seems a little premature to be honest!

Sorry for questioning your info J, but if the contract has already signed then why don’t they announce it on Arsenal.com like they did with Shea’s contract?

I think u should change the lay-out of the players’ name that pops out at the top of the page when the “players profile” tool bar is pointed at J, it’s to crowded..

hi. could you please change the font in the blog? it is really difficult to read what is written because of the italics. You should use the font that you use when you quote somebody. The wuotation font is awesome!

Also, perhaps having borders down at the comment section would help us know where to write comments. Right now it’s just all pitch black.

No idea why they haven’t announced it yet mate. Maybe they’re waiting for Benik to return so they can have pictures. Not sure, Arsenal.com is usually quite sluggish though.
