Arsenal’s Under 18 League and Cup ‘double’ winning captain Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested by police in the early hours of the morning. The versatile prospect failed to stop when signaled in his high performance £100,000 Mercedes McLaren in East London.
Emmanuel-Thomas had the back window of his car smashed as officers attempted to gain entry. He was reportedly found alone inside and with only a provisional driving licence. Jay has been released but will report to Redbridge magistrates court on February 12. It is expected he will be found guilty of driving without a licence and failure to stop – both could result in a prison sentence.
Jay only recently signed an extension to his contract and impressed on his first-team debut in the FA Cup against Stoke City recently. This came after he scored a terrific hat-trick for the Reserves a week previously. Any in-house punishment will be dealt with by the club in due course.

old codger even though i want wenger to stay, wanting him to go doesn’t make someone not an arsenal fan. if you had a choice of wenger staying and lets say you knew that we would continue to win nothing every year for the next 3 years or he left and we got hiddink and won some trophies and returned to being the dominant team, which would you choose? nobody knows what the future brings for sure, what we do know is that wenger hasn’t won us anything in the last half a decade and our chances of winning anything this year are relatively slim now, especially if we lose to chelsea. we all know that our team is only a couple of class players away from being amazing, (perhaps a keeper and a dm like flamini instead of denilson to partner song). we don’t need to spend £40 mil (even though every summer arsenal people tell us we have it anyway). all we need is £25 or so and we could even sell a couple of our fringe players or youngsters to off-set the cost even more. getting in a different manager doesn’t necessarily mean getting someone who will throw endless amounts of money at the squad and replace every young talent with over-paid expensive big names. also try to remember that wenger leaving doesn’t mean we instantly become a mid-table team and re-hire bruce rioch or george graham and play horrible defensive football. arsenal is a huge club now (thanks largely to wenger) and as a result we could now have a pick of virtually any manager available however big a name they have. your argument simply doesn’t make any sense at all. did chelsea become 10x worse since jose mourinho left? no, they had a very small dip but have remained a very close title contender every year and are favourites now. barca got rid of rijkaard, did they suddenly become much worse? well you’d have to ask pep guardiola that question.
this is not an attack on wenger, simply me explaining why the argument that you are not an arsenal fan if you think wenger is now slowing arsenal’s progress makes no sense at all. in fact if we keep with wenger and win nothing (or virtually nothing) big for the next 5 years, what does that make you? someone who was supporting the failure of our club to win rather than wanting us to make the next step of progress by addressing the small problems in the squad rather than simply ignoring them. a *fan* is someone who wants whatever they think is best for their team. if someone thinks wenger will deliver us less success than another manager then they are right to believe that he should go. similarly if you think wenger will do the best job, you understandably think he should stay. what matters is that you want whatever you think is the best for the club and only time will tell who is right.
personally i love wenger and his work, but his stubbornness is at times infuriating and we have to ask ourselves at what point should we no longer accept failure to win big trophies? is 6 years without a trophy ok? 7? 8? personally i think if we don’t win anything this year, then wenger should either try to address the squad problems more seriously or walk, because if we are out of the title race by february or march next year then i just don’t see that we’ll have made enough progress.
with regards to jet’s wages:
i don’t remember the specifics, but i seem to remember reading that our wage bill is something like the third highest in the country and i was *told* (someone can correct me if i’m wrong) that a very big bulk of that is our fringe youngsters who barely even play (players like wilshere, merida, vela, jet, manonne- basically all those youngsters in the reserves who are listed in the first team squad even if they don’t play

It’s plain stupid to link this incident to Wenger. Managers today can’t nanny players when they’re away from the club. That’s true for the seniors as well as the juniors. I’t well-known that the club dedicates time to education of the juniors and JET has been through all that (including managing the high earnings they get). At 18 he’s responsible for his own actions and must face the consequences. Those calling for him to be booted out would have wanted the same for Tony Adams I take it ?

Welcome to the wonderful world of the media glare = JET a typically young and testosterone full young man gets caught (correctly) driving a big car on a provisional licence. One of how many such cases in the past week/month. However JET must learn his his profile means his stupidity gets splashed accross the media and becomes fair game for thousands of experts to comment on – many of these will cite his case to prove their opinion of something else.
What part of this “story” is newsworthy in reality – everybody is entitled to screw up, its generally how we learn. Give the kid a break – for now at least.
