Arsenal’s Under 18 League and Cup ‘double’ winning captain Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested by police in the early hours of the morning. The versatile prospect failed to stop when signaled in his high performance £100,000 Mercedes McLaren in East London.
Emmanuel-Thomas had the back window of his car smashed as officers attempted to gain entry. He was reportedly found alone inside and with only a provisional driving licence. Jay has been released but will report to Redbridge magistrates court on February 12. It is expected he will be found guilty of driving without a licence and failure to stop – both could result in a prison sentence.
Jay only recently signed an extension to his contract and impressed on his first-team debut in the FA Cup against Stoke City recently. This came after he scored a terrific hat-trick for the Reserves a week previously. Any in-house punishment will be dealt with by the club in due course.

Obviously he’s a bit silly for getting busted, and spunking so much money on a car; however, nobody knows how JET lives, how much he earns, and by what terms he can afford to drive a 100k sports car (credit, payment plans etc). He’s been a professional for a while now. And say he earns 5k a week – which isn’t excessive for a player of his promise – he’d be able to afford a car like this easily enough.
Still, this story couldn’t have happened at worse time, considering the attitude of some of our fans.

Got done myself when 17 (many years ago) for no licence. They will probably add driving with no insurance and no ‘L’ plate – they did we me. Got 19 points and 2 month ban so its not only rich prem footballers that are stupid at that age :)

For all we know this car is the result of a year of hard saving and he was so excited that he’d just got his dream car that he went for a drive unsupervised. There’s something a bit weird about this report. The Mercedes McLaren is an F1 car in a street body and costs £750,000 or US$1,000,000. If it’s a Mercedes AMG – they are £80,000. My 23yr old son’s friend bought one of those with 20k down and an HP when he was working nightime double overtime shifts for London Umderground 3 years ago when he was 19. He worked for the company that went bust 2 years ago. So it’s not quite as unusual a scenario as you think and not limited to football, but it’s still a sign of the times. Typical for us that JET is the only talented player we have over 6’1″ and now he may never make it!!!
The ‘to much money with half a brain syndrome’ it was also shown in our performance against Manure Sunday. There is only one answer…reduce their wages and make them earn our respect.

Without being judgemental about the kid, it’s a bit worrying that Arsenal appear to pay their kids so handsomely. I drove a car for two years on a provisional license (didn’t get caught, though; was it my employer’s fault? Should my boss have been sacked if I have been caught?
And what the hell business is it of any of you what car he drives? He’s young, and by definition half an idiot. Practically everyone under the age of about 25 routinely shows bad judgement, and most drive cars that are above their pay grade.

JET is meant to be close to the first team and was handed a new contract in December.
Perhaps this contract is around £1-5k per week, over 10 times less than a first team player but still enough to be able to afford a Mercedez like that as payments will prob be in a very rough estimate around £1-2k per month.
He goes to the training camp everyday and sees tons of players driving kick ass cars, so he bought his own, whats wrong with that?
