Derby Agree Sunu Loan Deal With Arsenal

Derby County have agreed a deal with Arsenal for the loan signing of Gilles Sunu, prompting suggestions that he has signed a new contract with the club. Arsène Wenger was previously unwilling to loan out the prospect who’s current deal expires in the summer, until he had committed his long-term future.

Championship outfit Derby have been in the race for Sunu for a number of months but the Frenchman’s precarious contract situation has seen the loan move hit the buffers. Confirmation this morning from the local ‘This is Derbyshire’ newspaper brings the expectancy that the 18-year-old has now penned that new deal.

Rams boss Nigel Clough hopes to speak to ‘Gilou’ later today and wrap up a deal in time for the registration to the sent to the FA by midnight. This would allow the powerful front man to debut at Pride Park against Swansea City tomorrow.

Clough has chosen Sunu after failing to sign Everton’s James Vaughan for a second time, with power and pace the key assets.

“We have lacked a bit of pace at times, a bit of raw pace, somebody to run beyond the front two.”

“Paul Green and Stephen Pearson are providing it at the moment but just in our armoury, our 18, there is room for raw pace, which is where Sunu comes in.”

Gilles has made three first-team appearances this season, including making his Champions League debut and earning his first start at the Emirates Stadium in the Carling Cup. Derby scouts were present on Monday evening to watch him score for the Reserves against Chelsea.

ah you saw my link? Great work J.! Keep up the good work mate. Sunu can be really a great striker for us in the future!! Hope, with Chamakh coming, we will get someone in like Villa, too. Wenger needs to show ambition. But we are still in the race for both titles.

Sunu could actually be one for the future for us in my opinion, and I don’t mean “one for the future” like Aliadiere, Hoyte, Stuart Taylor, etc.

I heard Chamakh signed a pre-contract agreement with us already, but that was in The Sun, and I haven’t heard anything since…

      Haha.

French TV Canal Sport+ say it’s 100% a done deal, but nothing has been signed. There is a gentlemans agreement so to speak. I think we all know he’s coming anyway.

    Hi J,

Long time reader, first time poster. I had a good idea for your blog. It is of having an archived Young guns- like match reports from when Cesc first came to the club. It could be a monthly article. I have been reading young guns for over a year now and I can only imagine how exciting it was when Cesc broke through. What do you think?

I think this loan move will do Sunu a lot of good- I’m glad we forge links with championship sides. I don’t see many of the other big teams doing that.

    Hi J.

You know I really love Louis’ idea about the archive section. It would be great not only from a pure ‘Love of Arsenal’ standpoint, but also because it would offer really interesting perspective for us fans on how players develop. I don’t know…just read his idean and thought, “hmm…yea, that would be another great addition to the great new look of the site.” Anyway…my two cents.

Thanks as always for the great site.

…and, oh yes, great if Sunu is staying, and great if Chamakh is coming. But I would love to know where things are at with Merida. I still feel he would be a great loss because his talent is immense. Such a tough spot for him though. You can’t honestly blame him for looking elsewhere. Ramsey’s future looks huge, Wilshere’s potential is obviously massive, Lansbury is still a big untangible who could return from loan ready to compete for the first team, and Nasri, Cesc, Song, and Diaby are all at the very beginning of their prime years.. “Be careful all you youngsters…the Arsenal midfield is not a safe place to play at night…” lol!

well, it’s a good thing to Sunu for tasting a real challenge. maybe not as hard as Premier stage, but at least he could try to show some skills without the Arsenal boys backing up for him.

Good luck, Sunu. Do your best and make us proud..

Wow I really love the new look!! I steared clear of all things football for a couple of days after that rediculous loss to Porto, but now I can get back on track lol. I was just afraid of the negativity that pops up on the web after a loss. Did anyone else hear about a rumour linking us with Dominic Vose of West Ham?? I saw it on Goal.com (I know) and I didn’t have a clue where it coulda come from. I hope Merida stays!! But I can understand his concern regarding playing time. But hey, if he’s good enough, he can still make a lasting impression and become a regular first team member. It’s all about opportunity and the quality you display when given that chance. And by chance I don’t mean 30 minutes of a match lol. 3 or 4 games is more fair. Guess we’ll just wait and see what happens.

These young players are a little annoying now days. Every teenager is not ready to play first team football. What happened to hardwork and patients. How many teenagers are play regular football at Bordeaux and Atletico Madrid? Between both clubs 2. Stop crying, work hard and be patient. Iniesta was patient and didnt become a regular starter until Deco left. Now he is one of the best players in the world. These young players just need to relax and wait for their time or they will end up making a bad move and ruin their careers.

If he has joined Derby without signing a new long term contract then he can sign for any team he wishes.
Sunnu needs to realise that he probably wont become a regular for the next couple of years and he probably will have to go on loan again.
Even he doesn’t sign the contract I wouldn’t really mind it because Watt is much better than him and Wenger is turning JET into a striker.
    Didier Drogba type
