Arsenal have beaten Manchester United to Icelandic midfielder Ingólfur Sigurðsson. The left-footed central midfielder has rejected the advances of the Premier League Champions to link up with the Gunners for a trial next month.
Sigurðsson has been subject of intense interest from club’s all over Europe after breaking through and turning in a handful of eye-catching performances in the Úrvalsdeild League. Officials from Everton and Arsenal were present at the weekend as the exciting 16-year-old scored a fantastic brace for Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur’s senior team.
Ingólfur joined KR – Iceland’s oldest and most prestigious club – after a season In Holland with Heerenveen. Last term he played three times in the first-team and showed enough promise to be named in the squad for the current campaign. Manchester United were previously in contact and they have since asked him to trial on the 15th of February, which clashes with the date that Arsenal have suggested. He has since turned down Sir Alex Ferguson and will be in London later this month.
Outfits from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany have also made enquiries but the Iceland Under 17 international is keen on a move to England. Sigurðsson can play in any attacking position, but he is most at home as a left-sided central midfielder or on the wing.
He will stay for five days before returning to KR, although it is widely regarded he will not remain in the Úrvalsdeild for much longer. You can view a video of Ingólfur scoring for Iceland’s Under 16’s below.

Another left footer, I wonder if this is just mere coincidence
Striker please…
You heard anything bout Romelo Lukuku coming over to us?
Jay is there any truth in the Romelu Lukaku: Arsenal to Seal Late £9.5M Deal.?
This is good. Lets hope he works out well.
I’m surpised he rejected the mancs because they no how to win shit
Proof that Liverpool are idiots: they have sold Buchtmann to Fulham. He is amazing. J, why did we not buy him?
THERE IS ONLY ONE THING THAT MATTERS TODAY AND THAT IS LUKAKU. LETS HOPE THERE IS SOME REAL TRUTH, FOR ONCE, IN WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING THAT WE MAY GET HIM.
i hope to the mighty ARSENAL have signed R.Lukaku? PLease we need strikers!
Ooh, ooh……John, don’t bother, i’ll do it for you…..
WHY OH WHY DO WE KEEP BUYING CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS? WE NEED WINGERS WENGER. DON’T YOU GET IT? WINGERS. WE HAVE SO MANY CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS AS IT IS, WHY ARE WE SIGNING MORE? WE ALREADY HAVE LANSBURY WHO IS ALMOST WORLD CLASS!!!! :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbyxPZHoNcQ
J are we getin Lukaku or is just bull
What a joke!!!! Arsene hasn’t signed anyone hahahahaha
@haho, omg I can’t believe those losers sold Buchtmann, he’s immense. He toyed with the English defense last year at the U21 championship….what a player Fulham got…and that all sums it up for mr. Hodgson, what a great manager he truly is
We arent signing anyone.
There is nothing in the Lukaku thing. It was just an article suggesting that Arsene should buy him, not saying he would.
We’re done in the window as far as I know.
well, the only thing to hope for this season is that Fabregas stays…otherwise we’re doomed
what’s this all about “3.54pm: “Arsenal reserve George Brislen-Hall has great potential to make it on to your Toffs XI,” writes Richard Walsh”
With all strikers WHU signing cheeky 10m for Cole doubt it would be nice though, keep dreaming
In these last 5 minutes I reckon we’ll sign Messi for 10 pounds, Ibrahimovic for 8 pounds, Vidic for 4 pounds and maybe Pato for 3 pounds, just to break our budget of massive 20 pounds
Brentfor fans official newsletter, just came in. “4. And the BEST NEWS OF ALL, WOJCIECH SZCZESNY is staying for the season!!!!!!!! “
great. hopefully we get him and he can come in and do a job against chelsea on sunday.
wow! great news!
finally we’ve beatn MUTD ! YESSSSSSSSSSS WHO CARES NOW about what happend ysterday ??
WE GOT THE 16 years old! cant believe ! wowowoo what a news ! thats rellay made my day !!
rellay shame ;) !
it says on wikipedia romelu lukaku has agreed to join arsenal hope it is true
wikipedia is written by bloggers, so no good source though I wish the same based on his reputation without knowing his attitude or having watched him play. His father has been very firm saying he wants his son to finish school before leaving though. I dont worry about strikers reading youngguns, it seems the talent is plenty
is Lukaka not just some other kid? do we not have enough kids?
can never have enough kids, the man said :-) If one is not good enough, we can have the other to come and take his spot :-)
seriously as long as the kid is world class I would not mind, but the talent is there already no doubt. We will see in may, and saturday will certainly be defining
@ Mike, the article’s changed now anyway. He’s not coming to Arsenal. Not for now anyway.
spot on http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/arsenal-legend-questions-desire-at-emirates
We have a Montenegrin c/b on trial at the moment called Stefan Savic.
Another kid to sell on in 4 years while Wenger pretends he’s the new maradona. This gravy train doesn’t excite me anymore – it means nothing.
Before he joined Hereerenveen he had a trial with Arsenal didn’t he? I’m sure this youngster was mentioned on here around that tone anyway.
I swear this is the kid that there was a lot of hype about a couple of years ago. They said he’s a bit in the Zidane mould. I promise, i’m not being funny. I remember hearing Arsenal were watching a top Icelandic talent along with a couple of other big clubs but the kid was still very young at the time.
Does this mean that Galindo isn’t coming?? Any more news on Zezinho?? I know, I know lol, you’ll tell us as soon as you know anything, but I am an outsider and speculation and the endless possibilities and outcomes that go through my mind are all I have haha :D

we dont need a centre mid anymore. we are crowded there. get another type of player to train…
strikers, defenders.
AW is an one-trick pony?
Hello Im from iceland. This kid is left Winger and has amazing technical ability and good pace. His style is similar to C. Ronaldo as far as i know.
TJ DA GOON: This is not the same player you’re talking about. The player you’re talking about names Kolbeinn Sigþórsson and play for AZ Alkaamar i think.
He didn’t really reject United for us, he rejected United last summer because he wanted to play in the Icelandic premiership. I saw an interview with him last night and he said he didn’t feel right about going to United when he had a chance to play matches here in Iceland. He did reveal though that he has been a Liverpool fan since childhood. He said he was pretty excited to go on trial and seemed to be pretty level headed. I haven’t seen him play so I really can’t comment on that.
Ingólfur is a left sided wing forward, definately not center mid.
Man watching Robinho presentation at santos and Robbie Keane’s at celtic combined with the fact that I have started to watch some old games of some of the great players like Johan Cruyff, I am starting to feel like Football is being ruined by Money. It seems like football use to be more about the sporting aspect and prestigue rather than a business all about money. Johan Cruyff played for his club for 9 years for his club Ajax before he moved on to Barcelona. Brazilian players use to play until they were atleast 23 for there clubs in brazil before they moved on to uerope. It seems like players now days just chase the biggest salary and clubs just try to make a profit on any teenager that they can bring through. Big money clubs just by every good player and pile them up on the bench and pretty much just ruin them. It is killing the overall competition of this game. Celtics, Ajaxs, Bayern Leverkusens, etc have no chance of competing for ueropean honors. Intermilan for example has Arnautovic on loan from FC Twente. He has only played in a couple games off the bench. What happened to these players making a name for the selves at these clubs before earning a move to the top clubs when they are ready and after they have brought success to their first clubs. Queresma is just rotting in intermilan when he should still be playing for FC Porto. Adam Johnson just moved to Man City, how many Wingers do they have? Everyone is playing there part in this sort of destruction of football. The Big clubs, owners, Small clubs, and yes even us fans. Big money clubs drive up the prices of transfer fees and salaries and stock pile talent on their bench. These new owners turn these clubs into more of a business rather than wanting to achieve in the sporting aspects for the club and its fans. Small clubs trying to make a arm and a leg off of every decent player rather then trying to achieve success. Their greed really just helps drive up the prices of the players that they are interested in. Even Arsenal, hurts the game. I am a huge fan but while we directly are a good thing, how we give young players a chance, it pushes other big clubs to try to find every good young player in the world. Which they are just killing these young talents careers. I really am starting to think they should do away with these u17 youth tourneys and just allow these kids to progress at there clubs without distractions of these foreign clubs trying to poach every decent player at the tourney. And yes even us fans, including myself are hurting the game by our constant complaining about every player rather then just enjoying being a spectator to their talents. The pressure we put on these players is ridiculous. People have the nerve to complain about the WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR. That is crazy to me. Messi an his inernational performances. Back in the day, it seemed like the fans enjoyed the talents of players like Puskas, Best, Maradona, etc. Even in the Arsenal vs Man Utd games. We berate Clichy rather then just acknowledging Nani performing a fntastic piece of skill. Complaining about players like Ronaldinho, not even realising what an unbelievable talent he is and the chances of seeing another player like him.
Anyways if you dont agree, thats ok. I just dont think football can be sustained at this pace and needs to get back to the sporting side of the game. I would suggest people take a look at the history of this game and its players and clubs. You will see what I am talking about.
@Shane, speaking of money in the football business, I’ve always wondered how the London football team would look like…players born in London making a team and competing with teams from other cities. The best clubs would be Barcelona, Milan, London, Glasgow, Madrid :D
Me…You know what, people are right on there supports of players like Eastmond and Ayling and other young local talents. Football would be much better if the majority of the young players coming through were local lads and I am not talking about just british players. Like I stated that is how it use to be. Like Ajax could keep their talent until like 25 or 26. Good players would be more spread out all over the world and would create much better and more exciting competition. Now days, It is just a few teams of about 8 in uerope that can realistically compete for titles. This is the reason why it is so hard for a local talent to be good enough to make it at a big club. The standards are so high to win a major trophy because most of the top talent is wrapped up into just 8 teams.
I doubt in our life time you will ever see a team like blackburn win a title or a Napoli again. It will be the same few teams and maybe a team that is lucky enough to get bought by a billionare owner like Man City.
http://english.blic.rs/Sports/5961/Kid-you-are-Arsenal-material
money talks my bretheren, money talks, if you cannot buy the big cannons you will not win leagues. if you cannot like United have 3 or 4 30M signings out on the field then you wont win. Our team is not worth half the united team wen it comes to money. Rio, Berba and Rooney alone is worth 90 M. how can we compete with that?
I already thought about all that a loooooong time ago Shane. I think Wenger is trying his best to do that, even though we sign so much young talent from around the world. We have a few London based players, and I think that underneath it all, we are trying to do this. It won’t ever be like it was, but the new laws that have been talked about by Platini, yes you heard me Platini lol might help a bit?? It’s unfortunate, but it probably will never be the same again.
At first I was against some of the new laws like not allowing transfer of players under the age of 18 but the problem is more down to greed rather than the developement of players. All the new rule meens is that clubs like Arsenal will have to wait until a player is 18 but by that time the 18 year old kids team is trying to sell him for an arm and a leg. You are right though, I doubt football will ever get back to the way it was. But atleast as fans, we can have some common sense and not complain so much about players, but just enjoy the talents of players.
Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur’s
How much is that worth in a game of scrabble?
I also meant the rule that Platini wants to make that states that any team in debt cannot compete in the champions league. Now that may not be feasible, and teams may break away to form their own European league and so on and so on, but at least he is on the right track with that. It wouldn’t completely change the system now and it wouldn’t have a great effect on South America or Africa, but still, it’s one of the few good things he has proposed. The home grown rule is a bit of a help as well, but it’s not nearly enough to completely remedy the situation.
Every club has debt, it is just what kind of debt you have. There is bad debt and good debt. Arsenal have debt because of the new stadium but their profit margin is to the point where it will benifit the club in the long run. Going in debt because of transfers, wages and or buying the club by putting the club in debt is wrong(Glazers).
