Luke Ayling is spending his second day training with new loan club Yeovil Town after completing the formalities on a one month loan deal at Huish Park. New manager Terry Skiverton has moved to welcome his latest acquisition, while admitting it’s unlikely that Luke will get regular game time.
Skiverton took advantage of his contacts at Arsenal to personally scout Ayling during the recent friendly against the Colorado Rapids. After speaking to Reserve team coach Neil Banfield, they agreed on a deal, yet match time may be hard to come by.
“Ayling was alerted to me by one of my scouts, so I went there and watched him and he did a fantastic job. He’ll come as back-up and he knows that. But he’s going to push for a place and hopefully he can get a couple of league games before the end of the season.”
The Gunners have a procedure of only loaning players out for one month initially when first-team football cannot be guaranteed. A month of learning with the League One outfit will no doubt do the youngster good following a struggling start to the campaign. The 18-year-old was left frustrated with coaching staff after being injured and not being given a chance at Reserve team level, yet he’s now returned stronger than ever and leaves North London after a fruitful spell as captain.
Many believe Luke has a fantastic future in the game, this loan could be the making of him.
I read Skiverton’s comments yesterday. I thought to myself, Luke deserves more than being a Yeovil back-up. The kid is class. But i hope he gets a few games while he’s there.
Totally agree TJ, i am all for going on loan but not in this scenario and its not exactly like Yeovil are brilliant defensively. I hope injuries will not continue hamper him like Rhys Murphy because he is a TOP TOP TALENT.
Good for Jay. I hope this works out well for him.
Both our Jay’s were loaned out already. But yeah, good for Jay anyway.
Great for me, to see my beloved Gunners loaning a player out to my second-favourite side. It’s true Luke will find it hard to get games, as Caulker has done very well since coming in and Forbes has been a huge player for the last few seasons. Having said that, he should still benefit from being under the tutelage of Skivo, who was/is a great CB, and he’s got Town playing some good football as well – gritty off the ball, attractive on it, should suit Luke perfectly.
It’s hard to tell if Skivo is saying this so expectations aren’t too high, or to motivate Ayling to try and earn a spot, or to placate the senior players but keep them focussed on their jobs knowing it is no longer so secure. All good reasons to say what he has, and what a good situation for Ayling to have to negotiate. The only scenario that is a bit of a wash is if Ayling only gets a couple games to give older players a breather if YT gets closer to the playoffs.
I hope he gets first team place because if he is not good enough now for yeovil he will never be good enough for arsenal.you maybe say that he is class but you are fans not managers
@ bole
Well, you’re not a manager either as you make it seem as if this is a make or break loan for Ayling. It’s only a month loan and according to the article, Ayling is aware that he’s been brought in as backup. I’m sure he’ll be able to get a few games under his belt during his time there and it will serve him good. But no way is this make or break situation for him!
we face barca in the quaters and if, if we win then we face Inter in the semis
United have Bayern and then face either Bordeaux or Lyon
Manure have got such an easy run in
Jesus how come inter didnt get an opponent in the quarter finals?
If we wanna be the best, we have to beat the best. This is why, at least for me, the premier league title is not as meaningful for us because we didn’t beat Man U or Chelsea. Of course I’d be happy if we won it but we didn’t win it so much as we relied on others to lose it. If we reach the final in Europe, no question that would be our biggest achievement this year in my opinion. Remember 2006??? We faced Madrid and no one thought we could win. They weren’t defending champions but still. We will have a tough semi-final as well, but one game and one tie at a time. We can still win it.
You’re wrong mate. If Arsenal win the league this year then it means we’ve been the best team in England this season. The season consists of 38 games and if you come out with more points than the rest after those 38 games than the rest then you deseve to be crowned champs. Like they say, the table never lies.
Yes you could say we were terrible against Man Utd and Chelsea at the Grove but we played both games with Arshavin leading the line. Whenever RVP has played this season, we have played the opponents off the park. We even did it to Man Utd at their very own toilet bowl. Hell, even if Nik B led the line against those two at the Grove, i’m convinced we’d have got something from both games. I’d like to see how the oh so great Man Utd would do without Rooney for as long as we’ve been without RVP.
Onto Barca, i’m so glad we got them and not Man Utd or Inter. Barca play an open game like us but despite all their well deserved plaudits , they are nowhere near the same side if you’re organised and stifle their players. Chelsea did it to them last year when they ended up getting cheated in the semi’s. Messi has never been so anonymous as he was in those games. Arsenal struggle against defensively disciplined sides like Man Utd, Chelsea and Mourinho teams (hence, Wenger has yet to beat that pillock) but Barca aren’t like that and if we match them and are disciplined in our approach and cut our annoying naivity out, then there isn’t a doubt in my mind we’ll knock Barca out.
If there’s one team that can beat Barca than that’s us
I think we are ARSENAL and we are big enough and strong enough to not worry about any team we face because we can beat anyone but the worrying fact of the tie is that we have lost against Chelsea and United both times.
WE need to work on how to stop team from counter attacking against us and I think Wenger found the right formation switching from 4-3-3 to 4-1-4-1 this has stopped teaming from counter attacking against us and its looks a pretty good formation
If everyone stays fit then this will be our Lineup
——————————– Almunia ————————-
Sagna ——– Sol (Gallas) —– Vermaelen —- Clichy
——————————— Song —————————–
————— Fabregas ——————— Diaby ———-
Eboue ——————- Bendtner —————- Arshavin
Although It wouldn’t hurt to see Messi injured.
On every website I c Bracelona nd Inter semi evry1 is writen us off
this is the season for underdogs dude
dont worry we will be there in the semis
Yeah TJ I forgot that Van Persie was out those 3 games:S I’ve even argued that on other forums lol. I am so screwed up by the time change over here in canada lol. Blame the clock not the writer! hahaha. But remember I said that I am optimistic about our chances. We only really need to be warry of their wingers like Messi, Pedro and Iniesta. This year, our midfield more than matches their’s, and we’ll at least have Bendtner for some height up front. Defensive naivety is the only thing we have to be warry of.
Howdy, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get a lot of spam comments? If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can advise? I get so much lately it’s driving me mad so any assistance is very much appreciated.
It’s refreshing to see someone very knowledgeable about what they do. If only I had your writing aptitude. I look forward to more updates and will be returning. Thanks!
