Arsenal’s Under 16’s have crashed out of the Ferroli Cup in the group stages for the second successive year. Steve Gatting’s young charges have now returned from Italy after a disappointing but spirited spell on the continent.
Captained by Swiss centre back Martin Angha, the Gunners got off to a fantastic start. A crushing 6-1 win over favourites Juventus appeared to be a real sign that Gatting’s boys were going to be a dominate force. But it was the only highlight of the group stages. A defeat at the hands of Nice came after a draw with eventual winners Genoa.
It all came down a play off with local side AC Prato to decide who would make the knock out rounds. A 1-1 draw in normal time saw it go down to penalties and a 4:3 win for Prato saw the Gunners out.
Results Classification
Arsenal 6:1 Juventus
Arsenal 1:1 Genoa
Arsenal 1:2 OGC Nice
Arsenal 1:1 AC Prato – (Prato win 4:3 on Penalties)
Zak Ansah was Arsenal’s top scorer in Italy. He bagged three goals while fellow strike partner and trialist Phillip Roberts helped himself to two. Midfielders Alban Bunjaku, Anthony Jeffrey and Jordan Palmer-Samuels were the other goal getter’s. Genoa went on to claim the Cup, beating Partizan Belgrade in an exciting final.
no worries but one loss but this doesn mean we lack some firework upfront I wish we could have taken this betrovic kid you mentioned above and also Silva then we could have really set the place alight
silva isnt a u16 mate
What about jordan? he is very gd he goes my skl he shud get a contract… i used to play wid him a leyton orient we gt 46 goals between us he gt 30 of them and i played jus behind him… but a knee injury ruled out our partnership :( oh well thats life
How far do you see this Angha going ?
I’ve heard Jeffrey is very fast. Is is true and how much do you rate him J?
hey Jamie..
what abou the trialists who went with the squads.. how did they play..??q
any players on the other teams arsenal could buy
Do you think they’ll sign Roberts on?
could one tell me the difference between a scholarship and a youth contract….
A youth contract is a just a contract to play for the club at youth level.
A scholarship means you now get paid to play for Arsenal and you’re a proper Arsenal player. You train and go to school at Arsenal.
ansa trying to get signed for united or something scoring all them goals
Zak Ansah hasnt really impressed me seen him quite a bit in the reserves he doesnt really do anything special.
BTW was that sigurdsson and that danish player playing in this tournament? We really do need wingers in all levels
Agree about Ansah, seems to be good et getting into the right positions and finishing off chances, but not much else in his game imo.
John, Ansah has never played for the Reserves.
Sigurdsson didn’t go but the ‘Danish’ guy did play. He’s a central midfielder, though.
Smashing Juve at any level has to feel great. Shame about the other fixtures! Drawing with the eventual champions, too, shows there wasn’t much between winning the tourney and not making the knock out rounds, perhaps?
are they’re any pics from the tournament
for gods sakes not another central midfielder.
Ansah hasnt impressed at under 18s compared with henderson, aneke, yennaris, ozzie, josh rees, jamie edge.
arsenal should by scott parker, he’s a ball winner, tenacious and if west ham go down, he’ll be relatively cheap
on another website it said gibbs in the past had played for the irish youth team as has callum webb and ben glasgow, does ireland have any youths in their youth team who are born in ireland
what a flop. here I thought arsenal had the best youths in the world
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
i think we should sign phillip roberts as hes scoring for arsenal all the time , he is going to be a great arsenal player if he signs…..
