Video – Jay Emmanuel-Thomas Goal & Assist V Scunthorpe

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ roller-coaster season is ending on a high. His loan spell at Championship outfit Doncaster Rovers has seen the youngster shine after a season which included his first-team debut in the FA Cup. Yet achievements like that were marred with various off field issues which threatened to ruin his potential. However, Jay is now very much on course for a fantastic career with Arsenal.

Saturday’s fierce derby against Scunthorpe United was one of the biggest games of his young career, and instead of shying away, the leggy prospect notched a fine goal and assist to help Donny to a 4-3 win. You can view the action below.

Kid looks brilliant. I’ve held off on judging him, unlike some others and it sounds like he is doing extremely well now. I think if he handles himself better, he will only improve. I’m not one for his celebrations though. When you score, act like you’ve done so before, and will do so again. Except if it is a truly special or meaningful goal. Then go all out!!:D Even with that celebration, you can see why he ticks some people off and why some people can’t look past that and see his talent. I’ve only seen him play a few times, but I have liked what I have seen so far. He can do many things and is as strong as an oxe!! I think he can be a striker or play in the box to box role. I really think he can do it. It’s just me and my opinion, but if he doesn’t make it here, he will do well wherever. Just as long as he keeps his cool and doesn’t continue to have disciplinary issues. What do you guys think?? I know some people have negative opinion’s of him and some positive. Nothing will surprise me hahaha.

    Yea,

I always try to highlight this boy’s good performances and his potential because aside from you Milo and J. Sanderson, very few others seem willing to.

It’s quite a mystery why this boy is not held in the highest esteem by Arseanl fans. I mean all he’s done in the last 18 months is captain the u-18’s to an exceptional double, score goals for fun at that level, put in impressive performances on loan to Blackpool, score a hat-trick during a short return to the reserves, and then notch up 6 goals and 4 assists in 11 starts for Doncaster Rovers. Not much there to get excited about…LOL!

But it’s worse really, instead of genuine excitement about this exceptional talent, there is an air of, “well…he’s doing ‘ok’, I suppose…but that’s nothing special…”. After grudging acknowledgement of his production most fans quickly revert to this narrative that he’s lazy, disinterested, not likely to make it at the club. To all those who dismiss JET I ask who has done better on loan this season? Only Wilshere and Szczesny equal JET’S performances on loan and they are regularly spoken of as future first-teamers, but JET,for the most part, is not…? And he’s English…!

Despite his elegance, strength, and technical skill, the tone form many fans is as if he’s a baby Adebayor…they look hard for faults to highlighrt and make much ado about insignificant and/or factually spurious criticisms, rather than jump on board the ‘celebration bus’ as is the case with players like Jack, Coquelin, Henderson, Lansbury, and Afobe. The negative-leaning narrative toward JET is turly bizaar.

I disagree. Myself and everyone I know are truly excited by this guy’s talent. Sure he can annoy people at times with his blasé attitude and his languid style seemingly showing a lack of effort (which I don’t agree with), and there may be some comments on here that you’re referring to that are negative towards him. But rest assured, the Gooners who really know what they’re talking about can really see his potential. All he needs to do now is iron out a week-in week-out position that co-incides with Wenger’s vision.

I can only think that they are making some kind of connection between him and Ade through a slight physical resemblance, stupid really. This guy should be really good for Arsenal, better than Diaby, more composure than Bendtner. Can’t wait to see him, Landsbury and Wilshere make it big in the team. Really hoping they do and of course BARAZITE. Then I’ll be truly happy.

Doesn’t anyone think Simpson should be given a chance? He’s done better than Bendtner at the same level, playing for a team that were flirting with relegation instead of chasing the Championship title.

SImpsons is good but not arsenal good
oh jet, wilshere, lansbury and Barazite will all go on loan in my view to top championship sides or bottom/mid table PL sides.

The guy is too much! He’s scored some exceptional goals, put in commited performances for Doncaster and shown that he can handle the physicallity of playing week in week out in a dirty league. Touch is brilliant for that assist. He will make the first team next year for sure with the homegrown players rule.

YG I am a bit confused with this homegrown rules thingy we can have unlimited players who are under 21 in our squad and a squad of 25 players with 8 homegrown players in them but does this mean that these 25 players all have to be over 21 or can wenger nominate players like gibbs (20) and walcott(20) in them
I did some research and if the squad has to have 25 players over 25 then it might be a blessing in disguise as then we will have to buy 4 more players just to reach that quota.
Without transfer and if Sendros, Silvestre, Gallas leaves and Sol stays this will be our squad next season
Almunia, Fabianski,Mannone,Sagna,Eboue,Clichy,Sol,Vermaelen,Djourou,Rosicky,Diaby,Cesc, Nasri, song, Denilson, Arshavin, Eduardo, Bendtner, Van Persie, Chamak, Vela ( ONLY 21 PLAYERS) meaning 4 more additions to the squad right
THESE PLAYERS ARE ALL UNDER 21 – Szczesny, Traore, Gibbs, Lansbury, Wilshere, Merida, Ramsey, Eastmond, Barazite, Walcott, JET

    Hi, Donny fan here.
JET has been a good loan signing for us and got us a couple of results we may not have had without him. When he has got the ball he pulls off some amazing feats but he has to be given the ball as he can’t be bother to try to get it for himself. Off the ball he seems to wander around aimlessly as if he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do. With the ball you’d think velcro was on his boots and the ball and once he pulls the trigger on that left foot you know the balls going into the net. The lad can throw the ball a good distance as well(could do well at Stoke).
He can be frustrating at times but does produce results and if Arsenal have no plans for him for next season I and many other Rovers fans would be glad to see here again on loan.

    Homegrown rule clarification:
Clubs will have to announce a 25 man squad at August and then in January after the winter transfer window. Out of these 25 players, at least 8 have to be homegrown, which basically means being trained for 3 years when they were 21 or under by ANYONE in the ENGLISH or WELSH systems. That means that for example if Arsenal sign Danny Welbeck from United, because he has been educated in Manchester he will be classed as homegrown. Anyone who is under 21 is eligible to be counted as over the limit of 25 players.

I think for Arsenal these players are homegrown: Vito Mannone, Wojciech Szczesney (as of August 2010), Philippe Senderos, Johan Djourou, Gael Clichy, Kieran Gibbs (as of September 2010), Armand Traore, Francesc Fabregas, Denilson, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Song, Jack Wilshere, Fran Merida, Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner.

If Carlos Vela’s loan in Spain counts as two years then he is homegrown, if it doesn’t count it isn’t possible he can be classed as homegrown as by the time he has had 3 years in English football he will be 22.

It looks like this homegrown rule will be easy peasy for Arsenal :D Even if you assume that no one leaves this summer, we have 15 non-homegrown players in our squad so even at a limit we have space for 2 signings.

One thing I forgot to add is that you cannot change your squad during the season, only after each transfer window.

Btw hope I have cleared that up for everyone as I was pretty confused myself before I stumbled across that article.

You’re correct mate, although Kieran Gibbs is already classed as home-grown. Anyone who plays FM will know what this home-grown rule consists of but in case you don’t know, Tony has just explained it to you. That’s why i never feared this rule from when it was first mooted. SS and the wanker media will have you believe Arsenal were screwed but what they failed to realise was that many of our first team squad have been here way before their 21st birthday.

Regarding JET; i couldn’t agree more with what KC says. Some Arsenal fans are so funny it’s unbelievable. I’m not having a pop at you Milo, i swear, but what you said about his goal celebration basically sums up why there are Arsenal fans who don’t like him. My point is this; if somebody is different and does something different to what you would do, then you have to respect that. So what if he danced when he scored? Or so what if he wears clothes that you wouldn’t wear? Like i said Milo, this isn’t aimed at you, it’s aimed at every Arsenal fan that can’t look beyond ridiculous little things like this to admire true talent.

I wouldn’t celebrate scoring a goal like that but i was overjoyed for Jay while he enjoyed his moment after scoring a sublime goal. As for the assist, my goodness, was that class or what? Both his goal and his assist were very Ibrahimovic-esque. That’s why, as i’ve stated before, i believe his best position is as a striker, although he’s probably the most versatile player in the whole entire Arsenal ranks and would do an admirable job anywhere on the park. Well done Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

Well I don’t have a problem with what he wears!!! lol. I’ve never even seen him in street clothes anyway haha. I can’t respect the dancing. I’m sorry. But he looks to be a great talent. A great one. Is he a bit like Balotelli off the ball??? I hope not, but it sounds like from the donny fan (sorry I forgot the name) that he soesn’t really bother to track back. If he plays in the midfield he’ll have to start doing that!! But if he plays as a striker it isn’t as big an issue, although I can see why Mourinho hates Balotelli’s defending!! It doesn’t look like he can be bothered to do it, and if I were a teamate I would get pretty upset. He doesn’t have to defend like a rabid dog, but he at least has to try right?? I think he will come to realize this as he gets older! I have faith in him.

He reminds me of RVP. when Robin first arrived he was a very selfish player who wanted to do all by himself. But with time he learnt to be a team player and now he is one of our World class players. I think JET will get to know the collective and teamwork when in the ranks with the full squad and with Wenger in the corner. Personally i would love JET to be DM as he physically fits in and its a position we really needs reinforcements. Not to forget that Wenger sees Song as a Defender in long term… this means JET can be regular in the first team. What u Guys think?

Whats up with all the hate on his dance. I dont hear anybody complain when, Eboue, Denilson or Fabregas (is has happend) does it. I would never in my life compare him to Balotelli, that kid is a real basketcase. I think this whole thing about his bad atitude is kind of hyped up, would Steve Bould pick a player with such severe atitude probelms as you make them up to be as captain of his team? Sounds unlikely. Lets have faith in him. I have.

      Amit,

Honestly, JET at the DM spot doesn’t make a lot of sense to me because of the amount of goals he scores. He is proving himself to be capable of putting the ball in the nest consistently at every level he plays at. Why take away that goal potential and put him at a position he hasn’t played much and isn’t all that familiar with. He was an attacking mid for the majority of his appearances with the u-18’s last year and he’s been either an attacking mid or sat just behind the striker with the reserves and on loan in the Championship this season.

He’s had a hard time setlling on a position for much of his career but his recent goal scoring strongly suggests that’s how he should be used. The D-mid spot would appear to be a big waste of a potentially excellent attacker.

JS here is an article idea for you, with som many players having made loan moves this season it would make interesting reading to see who really has gained experience and how they have compared and fared.. Apps, sub apps, goals, assists, mins on pitch, etc.?? what do you think or are you winding down now ??

      TJ,

Thanks man! Really nice to read that Sanchez is doing well. I was impressed with his performances in the first team earlier in the season, but, for me, the jury is still very much out about whether or not he can develop into an Arsenal quality player. His attitude and commitment are fantastic and his pace is electric, but he has a lot of developing to do physically, and I suppose thsi is common for a 19 year old with premiership aspirations.
