Internationals: Afobe Noted By UEFA & Angha Nets Twice

Martin Angha has now returned to his native Switzerland for the summer, but he was still in action this week, this time captaining the Swiss Under 16’s to a 4-0 victory over Finland.

Angha not only impressed by claiming a clean sheet, but he also weighed in with two extraordinary goals. The powerful centre back came forward from the back with the ball twice to great effect, slamming home twice from all of 30 yards. He also claimed the Man of the Match award.

Thomas Cruise was surprisingly the only England player selected by Noel Blake for England’s qualification round for the UEFA European Under 19 Championship. A 1-1 draw with Ukraine sealed their place in the competitive for the third consecutive year. Cruise has been a regular for Blake, but he’s often operated as a left winger, rather than his preferred left back position.

Elsewhere, Benik Afobe was indirectly noted by UEFA as one of their regular “top 10 stars to watch”. Although not included in the list, his performances alongside Connor Wickham earned them both a mention. You can view the complete list here.

Engerlands basic tenet is to play the long ball game. You wouldn’t want too many players that can use the ball ,pass with accuracy and exhibit a bit of skill when a 40 yard punt into the channels is working.

Conor Henderson played for Ireland. Lansbury and JEt are too old to play but Watt, Bartley and Deacon are eligible to play

you were allowed 2 overage players for that i think, to be eligible for this years u19 you have to be born in 1991 or later so lansbury and jet not eligible

J, this is off topic but do you think JET will be going back to Blackpool on loan this coming season to get some prem experience? If he was good enough to get into their squad in the championship, he should be good enough to get into their squad in the premier league (assuming they don’t make a bunch of other signings).

Ouch. He was at Blackpool for the start of the season, Anto.

I think it’s quite easy to leap to the idea that he would go back there, but Ian Holloway wasn’t really impressed. He thought Jay was a great player who will get better, but I think he wanted more substance. Now they’re in the Premier League they need proven substance players more than even and Jay isn’t going to give them that.

I reckon his form at Doncaster might prove otherwise. But you’re right he wasn’t as good at Blackpool, but I still think he stands an outside chance.

Nice one anto, in six short words you managed to be both ignorant and offensive.

I would like to see more of our youngsters loaned out to Premiership clubs, provided they would actually play regularly. Song and Djourou, and now Wilshere, all benefited hugely from their spells. Szczesny to Blackpool anyone? Vela really needs games, and Eastmond has proved himself quite capable at PL level. They could both do a job in one of the weaker teams.

Thanks J, Tony, and Leo for your educated responses.

I see your point J, and Leo I remember seeing Song at Charlton and there were definite glimpses of the potential we’re now seeing fulfilled. One game against I can’t remember who he had one (two?) assist(s) in the second half as he inspired a comeback. All this to say, I think I’m just excited for the talent we’re developing, and I can’t wait to see what these guys can do at the premiership’s level. Bolton games were way more interesting with Jack’s progress to monitor, so it makes the whole league more attractive to watch. My anticipation will have plenty of time to build though I guess since they’ll all get a look in at the pre-season training camp before any loan deals are finalized.

JS you know Matthew Connolly was he offered a contract at arsenal before he left for QPR?

I watched him the other day he looks so much more bigger, powerful and for me looks like a quality defender.

His technique, control was always impressive he just looked a bit skinny for me but he has bulked up alot.

I know Wenger rated himm highly was it because of his injuries we let him go or did he reject a conract and wanted first team football?

This Angha kid looks like the real deal but is he a RB or a CB ???????
I think if he’s a RB then he’s better than Boateng and deserves to play CB next season what do you think ??????

can you imagine aneke and jet playing in the same team, with their long shot capabilities and good footwork, they would do awesome. Aneke has the rangy, driving with the ball from midfield ability, while jet is good at the intricate dribbles around the box.

I read today that Lorient wanted to take Coquelin on loan next year. That would be a great move for Coquelin, the coach Christian Gourcuff makes them play very good football

If its true then I can see Couelin being loaned out and Laurent coming to emirates for 7-8 million euros but only after he signs a new contract I hope I dont want to lose him like we lost Merida this summer
Christian Gorcuff is an aweome coach and his philosophy is very similar to wenger he too buys unknown players and makes them into superstars and he also likes to play beautifull football, he’s also the father of Yoann gorcuff so good relationship with Christian Gorcuff can help in our deal for Yoann (if we are looking at him as a replacement for Fab I HOPE WE ARE)

translation of what Coquelin said in an interview now J might know does he mean he’s leaving or being loaned out I didnt understand that part

Lorient: A young Gunner in the viseur… While Arsenal does not hide his interest for the central defender of the FC Lorient, Laurent Koscielny, arrived in the Morbihan a year ago in origin of Turns, the Breton club would see itself well to enlist in the form of a ready a young environment of land of the Gunners since two seasons, Francis Coquelin, formation lavallois. Questioned on the site of the Newspaper West France, the latter, that plays very little with the of London club, confides: “Concerning Lorient, it exists, it is true, discussions between the two clubs, but for the moment, it does not have anything of fact. I will not be against a return in France, but what I research before all is a club where I will be certain to have time of game.”

That Cruise must be one hell of a player- I assume Ukraine went with convention and fielded 11 players?

I know a bunch of Charlton supporters who thought the world of Alex Song during his loan spell and I watched with great interest whenever they were on TV.
I made posts on websites saying I thought he was a star for the future to receive many educated replies to say Song was sh*** and I was a w*****. Although I enjoy constructive exchanges of view on various Arsenal websites, there seems to be an unfortunate element who just log on to abusive.
I think we have the most promising squad of youngsters ever at the club with many likely to come right through to the PL team
I am particularly impressed with Szczęsny, Bartley, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Lansbury, Afobe, and Sanchez Watt all of whom I think could make it big and hopefully for Arsenal !
There are several others that could possibly be added to that list and I just hope that ‘promise’ can be turned into reality with some if not all of them.
