Arsenal Pay “Training Allowance” For Dutchman Ebecilio

Arsenal have paid Feyenoord €700,000 euros as a “training allowance” after signing midfielder Kyle Ebecilio on a free transfer. The Gunners were able to sign the Dutch Under 16 international for nothing due to contractual laws in Holland but the Rotterdam based club were furious at losing one of their brightest prospects.

Laws in the Netherlands state a scholarship contract can not be issued until the player is 17-years-old, a year younger than in England. This meant Arsenal were free to approach and sign Ebecelio, leaving Feyenoord left fuming. Minor officials labelled the transfer “child trafficking” but in a bid to clear the air, a one off payment of €700,000 euros has changed hands.

Kyle will put pen to paper on a scholarship with the Gunners on July 1st, subject to the completion of a medical. He had previously held talks with Chelsea and had reportedly even visited their Cobham training base. However, Arsène Wenger made a personal call to the youngster, reassuring him his future would be in better hands in the North of the capital. A deal was quickly done.

A giant 6 foot central midfielder who can play on the wings, Ebecilio has immense power but superbly quick feet. A set-piece expert, he starred for Feyenoord’s ‘B’ team last season – a level where his cousin Jeffrey Bruma also impressed at before switching to Chelsea in 2007.

At international level, Kyle is regarded as the best in the ranks. He shone in front of a watching Liam Brady in February when his strong run and cross from the right created an own goal against Ireland, a game where fellow new boy Philip Roberts was on the score sheet.

Ebecilio is expected to be a regular for Steve Bould’s Under 18’s next season.

Talking to Feyenoord fans they didn’t seem to rate him much. Maybe they’re just bitter he’s going. Surprising signing nonetheless considering how stacked we are in central midfield.

J dont you think we spend too much money on players we can get for free
    example
Ebecillio we could have got him for free but we paid 700,000euros for him
    same with
Coquelin he should have been for free but we paid his club a million dollars

any idea why we do that? especially when we dont have to

It’s all about building good relations. Feyenoord have good players, if we leave them with a bad experience of Arsenal then maybe in the future if we want one of their players, they will not want to do business or charge us a bigger than normal price. If you behave well and build up good relations then it pays well in the future. Half a million pounds now, could save us a good few million in the future on a potential player.

Chelsea and Man Utd have treated club’s badly, quite within their rights to, like the Pogba deal etc and now those clubs have a bas taste of what United are Chelsea are all about. A good reputation is priceless.

Feyenoord didn’t have a choose, because the kid refused to sign a contract at Feyenoord, the club he owes everything but when Wenger calls and offers him a big salary who could refuse.

Should be some rules that clubs can’t buy/sign foreigners under 18 years old.

Feyenoord and Arsenal should be working together, Arsenal sends some 18-20 year players to Feyenoord so they get the experience they otherwise possibly wil not get.
    Win-win situation
Feyenoord gets good players for 1 or 2 years
    The player gets experience

It is a tricky situation. In some ways i believe it helps for u18s to move, especially if the are in a bad environment or a non proffesional setting like Galindo. When it hurts the game is when young players listen to agents, coaches, and others and move from their home clubs to a foreign big club thinking that is the best rout. It makes it impossible for smaller nations teams like Holland to compete anymore. Really it all comes down to money. That is what ruins the game.

I think their league suffers but not the country their players train with the best managers from around the world and players and get better technically, physically and also mentally

thats what i am talking about. The leagues and club teams and actually yes it does hurt the National team aswell. Look at holland….how many of their national team was brought up in a foreign academy? They were all produced in holland. Now alot of their young talent is buried in big foreign clubs.

Van Persie came to us at the age of 21 so he became a world beater with us and we can do the same with Barazite (who I hold in high regards) and maybe even this Ebecilio kid

    • June 10, 2010 at 9:19 am
      Permalink

Van Persie came through a dutch acedemy. You are arguing the wrong points. I have said Arsenal are good inividually for young players. I am talking about football as a whole. Not 1 of the dutch national team played for a foreign academy. You cant deny that. I just really wish players played in their own national leagues and for medium leagues longer then they do. A young dutch kid supporting Ajax will never get to see a Cruyff, Ibrahimovic, Neskeens, van Basten, etc play in or close to their prime for ajax ever again. Players move at 16 or if they stay, the move after 1 good year at 21. Everyone is in such a hurry to join a massive club anymore. Why do 22 year old cennter backs need to be moving to chelsea just to warm the bench? I just wish for more parady in football so more fans can feel the joy of success and football.

    • June 10, 2010 at 9:53 am
      Permalink

that depends on the players when they move
if they are smart then they will move when they are ready but playing with the best of best can only make them better
What these leagues need to do is make themselves more competitve in europe bring world class players to their clubs, do wha the PL did to become so successful

    • June 10, 2010 at 12:29 pm
      Permalink

???????????????????…………..THE SMALL EUROPEAN LEAGUES CAN NOT AFFORD BIG NAME PALYERS. That is why they really on produce home grown talent. I feel like you just got lost in that last comment.

    • June 10, 2010 at 1:19 pm
      Permalink

just playing players from your home country limits the commerical and marketing potential of the league the reason PL has been so successful is because we have players from every country playing here but its not the same with these leagues.
They need to tap the commercial abilities these leagues possess bring players from every country and improve the competitiveness of their leagues.

    • June 10, 2010 at 1:52 pm
      Permalink

Certain countries cant compete that way. They have to do it in a footballing way. You are arguing against something that worked just fine in the past. Ajax, Celtic, Benfica all use to be able to build and i say “build” successful clubs buy developing most homegrown talent. Now days they have no shot and alot of the are or will be in financial trouble. Money has simply taken out alot of the joy of football.

    • June 10, 2010 at 2:24 pm
      Permalink

In the past footballers spend their entire footballing lives at a single football club. Times have changed now footballer want to play in the best leagues, they want to play in the CL with the best teams. If clubs like Ajax, Fenebache still think they can do what they did in the 70’s-80’s then they are sadly mistaken

    • June 10, 2010 at 2:57 pm
      Permalink

What are you talking about…..i dont think you understand financial structure mate. Also there is no issue with players joining the Barcas and reals but players use to do it after they won something with there home club. Cruyff won the champions league and then moved to barca. Like i said, yes the game has changed…it is all about money. Simple and that is a shame.

Walcott I think we can all agree isnt close to the finished product but how many youngsters are? Cesc maybe the exception but most youngsters have just started to find their feet in the first team at this stage but when you have such a young squad then expectations are a lot higher on them.
Still fans should know better I mean the guy just turned 21 and has been under scrutiny since he was taken to the world cup at the age of 17

shame that the home grown talent are left behind in salaries that are offered to all scholars, foreign imports are known to get 3 to 4 times more than a home grown talent.
Even worse is due to money spent , they are given a golden path to reserves, Martin Angha prime example when we have home grown players who are miles better.
