Brady Admits Senior Youngsters Are Fighting For Futures

Liam Brady believes a selection of senior professionals in the Reserves ranks still have to prove themselves if they are to have a career with Arsenal. The Irishman took charge of the 2-2 draw with Crawley Town last night, and admitted after most are fighting for their futures.

The most important step for youngsters is to continue their development, and Arsène Wenger has taken those he believes to be ready to compete for first-team places to Austria. For those left behind, the future looks bleak. Brady admits plenty of his squad still have some impressing to do, while some are firmly in the shop window and looking to attract new employment. Speaking to Arsenal.com, the Head of Youth Development was frank;

“Most of these boys will probably go on loan again this year (especially) the older ones. They have to prove themselves and they have to prove themselves to our manager and they have to ensure that if it isn’t going to happen here at Arsenal it is going to happen somewhere else for them, and I am confident that they will all do that.”

The likes of Rhys Murphy, Sanchez Watt and Oğuzhan Özyakup all still have futures at the club, and a loan spell is seen as the final piece of the jigsaw before they’re ready to compete for a first-team place. However, for Gavin Hoyte, Mark Randall, Nacer Barazite and Jay Simpson, game time is now the priority, and Wenger has indicated it won’t be with the first-team. All four have experienced a loan spell, and all four are available for a transfer should a suitable offer arrive.

Brady, who is taking charge of the Reserve team as Neil Banfield is coaching with the first-team, will continue with the squad which beat Crawley, with a selection of interested scouts set to run the rule over the current crop.

I thought Mark Randall had already gone. As for Jay Simpson, why, if he really did get an offer from Omonia, didn’t he grab it with both hands? It’s looks like a great club who’ve just flown through the CL qualifier for the second season running. I see from the UEFA official site that they’ve just made another big signing so I don’t suppose the offer, if it ever existed, is still open. Looks like he and Mark Randall will be lucky now to find a club in the troll leagues who wants them.

Barazite, however, really deserves to find somewhere in Europe this window who’ll give him a chance. He needsw to get his career moving at a top club, having wasted too much time with us already.

Final question: someone on this site told me ages ago that Evina, who I really liked, hadn’t been offered a new contract, but he seems to be still here. What’s the situation with him?

Of the 4 Barazite is undoubtedly the most talented, however, injuries have severly dented his progress. I would like to see him given 1 more season on loan to a premier league club to prove his worth. I think of the 4 Simpson is the one player that would offer something different to what we currently have especially if Eduardo leaves as expected today. I would keep him around until the loan window is about to close then evaluate things, at the moment we have just 3 strikers on tour all 3 unproven and very few prem goals between them. Simpson could certainly be worth keeping. As for Randall & Hoyte, their time is most certainly over and neither is worth keeping. You would put Hoyte behind 6 centre halves that are currently with the club make that 7 if campbell stays, he would be 6th choice RB behind Sagna, Eboue, Eastmond, Nordveit & Coquelin. Randall would be at best 6th choice DM and at best 12th choice AM.

Too bad that Gavin Hoyte also seems to be out of Arsenal. Seemed like we would have the brothers Hoyte in defence a couple of years ago.

Barazite was the player I wanted to suceed at Arsenal but I am sure he can be a hit elsewhere
Murphy is injury prone other than the boy knows how to put a ball in the back of the net
Watt seriously !!! can you see him getting anywhere close to the first team with the strikers we have now
ozzyakup will probably move in to the first team after Cesc leaves and will play back up to the like of Ramsey and wilshere in a few years time
    Hoyte has been disappointing
    same for Randall

barazite will get fed up with the way arsenal has jerked him around, go away and join one of our rivals and become a world beater who has it in for us.

i really cannot understand a manager and coaching staff who see more potential in jay thomas than in nacer barazite.

i hope he goes to chelsea and that he returns to f*ck us up every year. the arsenal coaching staff deserve to be humiliated by him for the rest of their careers.

well our coaches do and they decide and they haven’t made mistakes about talent so I trust them when they make these decisions.
If they say barazite is not good enough for the first team I except that and you should do the same

I love Coquelin too. Along with Barazite and Miguel, he’s a favourite of mine. This doesn’t bode well!

Will we get any money for Simpson, in the unlikely event anyone wants him?

Nordveit? He didn’t figure much last season for lowly Nuernberg, so how much did he benefit from being there on loan? Am curious as to how he’ll do for us. Also curious as to how the English will pronounce his name. According to a Norwegian I asked, it’s Noo-er-twait, to rhyme with plate, but I bet they get it wrong here!

yes we will make a few million on simpson sale
Nortvedit will play as backup to me. He looked very good as a RB and he will probably a fifth choice CB and a third choice RB
He can also play in the midfield if needed

From the youngsters going to Austria
Wilshere should come into the first team, same goes for Lansbury to cover for Ramsey, Nortvedit should also come into the first team.
I will also like to see either Eastmond/Frimpong in the first team

we need a big midfield in my view and these players should do a very good job for the cup games and odd PL games

I am convinced Wenger has made a decision to increase the “1st team” squad size. He used to work with a 28 man squad, but i think the new rule will mean he will work with a 34 man squad. 4 GK’s and 3 players for each outfield position. If you look at the first team squad on Arsenal.com there is your 28 add to that the 6 youngsters (Eastmond, Lansbury, JET, Frimpong, Henderson & Nordveit) then there is your 34. I am not saying there will not be some changes, as obviously Eduardo, Campbell & Almunia may yet move on. But i believe these will be replaced man for man. Eduardo could yet be replaced in the squad by Simpson, Murphy, Wellington or a new signing. Almunia if he goes by Schwarzer. Campbell will be replaced by either a new signing, Bartley or Miquel. The only other signing that might be made is a DM seeing as Ramsey is more than likely out till Xmas, i know he is not a DM i am purely looking at numbers, this would not really count as increasing this squad size. I would love to see the youngsters step up if the 3 players mentioned leave, but my head says we need 3 or possibly 4 more signings if those 3 go.

    Eastmond 25, Sczcesney 26, Lansbury 32, Henderson 33, Nordveit 34, Frimpong 35, JET 36,

    Leaving only 12, 13 & 18 available with 1, 9 & 31 possibly becoming available

He is no worse than Denilson, Ramsey is out injured, Lansbury & Wilshere are also inexperienced, Diaby is injury proned, Cesc is not back in training yet. He is a better option than Randall. Hence he is on tour and probably in Arsene’s 34 man squad for next season.

(news just in from Austria, from my pal who is out there and has been talking to the staff) Eduardo’s place in the squad might go to Botelho, who i am told Wenger fancies as a winger and is very hopeful of obtaining his work permit, if he does not get it he might look to sign a winger Remy anyone???

I cannot for the life of me understand how Eastmond has become so elevated. I have watched the Youth team for the last 4 years including our FA youth Cup team and Eastmond was far and away the worst/weakest player in that group!

He has been switched from right back into a mid-fielder because he was clueless, and yet he is now on the verge of the first team.

Who rates him at Arsenal? I bet it is not Steve Bould! :-(

I’ve watched him for a few years now and never rated him. I often cited him and Shea as the weak links in our Youth Cup winning side but both have grown on me a whole lot since then. Shea obviously needs to grow a few inches if he is ever going to realise his potential as a solid GK but Eastmond, who is not suited to RB as he lacks the necessary pace, has a good engine, sensible distribution, is calm and composed on the ball, has good decision making, quite strong, has a decent reading of the game (which will improve a fair deal over the next few years), positionally astute and has even shown that from midfield he has a tendency to pop up with the odd goal every now and then. This happens at every club around the world. Some unhyped kid emerges from the shadows and makes the grade simply because they have a great attitude, great mentality and can do a very effective job for the team despite their unglamorous nature of play.

      I rate Eastmond
Eastmond was never the brightest talent in our youth system, he knew and we knew but he played more PL games for us than WIlshere

There are a few reason for that
DM spot didn’t have an adequate backup and Eastmond got his chance.
Eastmond is made for the DM spot. He reads the game better than most youngsters, he’s technically okay and he’s a tough lad a feature of his which has made me a fan.
Every time someone knocked him down he got up straight away and made sure that player knew who he was dealing with. It was like seeing the old arsenal players again

He’s a DM through and through and that’s the reason for meteoric rise at arsenal

Coquelin is a better all round platers
Frimpong I acutally didn’t rate but he looks awesome

Its a tough battle for the DM spot and I want Coquelin and Either Frimpong/Eastmond to make it

After Barazite disappointment I hope Coquelin makes it

I like Eastmond, I think he has potential. On those few occasions I’ve seen him he’s been neat and tidy and read the game pretty well. He looks to me like he could make a good DM, in the style of Gilberto, someone who looks to shadow players and limit the space. Even though his skill levels were noticeably weaker, I was pleasantly surprised with his performances with the first team, he looked pretty unfazed and assured of himself, making the most of his limited ability. He needs a lot of game time still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a bit more of him this season.

I really rate Eastmond too. I think he did a fantastic job coming into the first team last year and didn’t really put a foot wrong. As TJ DA GOON & Andrew say above he’s a no nonsense, hard working and intelligent player who fulfills the dm role perfectly. In my view he should be ahead of Denilson and Diaby for that role from now on, he’s proved he can do the job.

I think we really should start to use buy- back clauses from now on with these guys. We’re going to have to let so many talented youngsters go when they reach 21yrs of age and most players don’t reach their true potential until 24/25.

A second team in a lower league would be better tho, then they can stay togther. =p

@ Gunner17, “still a bit lightweight and lacking in tenacity, two and a half years behind song”

At his age his strength will improve very quickly and no doubt this preseason would have bulked him up a fair bit and improved his game. He still held his own against the big boys of the prem last year and i remember him doing a Song and knocking a few off the ball with relative ease. I’m not saying he’s the finished article by any means, but compared to Denilson (even more light weight) and Diaby (poor concentration) he is the better backup option. I’m looking forward to seeing him in these next few games to see where he’s at.

the lack of right-sided options will hurt us during the season, and the competition on the left will damage some of those young players.

I have stayed in the same hotel as the players and mangement staff many times and they are quite approachable. They did not give any information over that was confidential and i know he was speaking to Wenger. When i was in the Hilton in Amsterdam with the team before the last Amsterdam tournament i sat with Wenger and all the players for over an hour, what do you think we spoke about the weather? Wenger even got on my mobile and wished my Dad happy Birthday. My old man told him to f off as he thought it was one of my pals messing about. Things like this happen on tour. can’t see it…nasri is pretty nifty when he’s in the mood but he’s no fabregas.

physiologically he’s awkward, more of a stylized no.10 than a central midfield maestro.

we’ll win nothing if we we play him instead of fabregas. he can’t cope with that responsibility or position.

stick nasri, fabregas and wilshere in a midfield three in front of song, and now you’re talking.

That Eduardo video is unbelievably sad. How many more of our players will this happen to? Two players had their legs broken at Birmingham last season and one at Stoke. But just so long as the thugs pick up the points and avoid relegation so as to be able to do it again the following season and be praised by the likes of Alan Hansen for their ‘bravery and endeavour’, what’s an injury that puts a tippy-tappy Arsenal player out for over a year …

I loved Eduardo, one of the best finishers I’ve ever seen. Hopefully, once he’s away from England he’ll recover his genius. He was almost like his old self once or twice in the CL last season; in fact his back-heel against I think Anderlecht was voted the pass of the group stage on UEFA.com. It was just the Premiership that couldn’t cope with after what happened, so I’m happy for him that he’s left and found a good club.

It sad about any player suffering a bad injury, but thugs, is harsh. Tackles like this have been a part of Football for over a 100 years, it is the style of play that has changed, by certain clubs like ours that makes them seem worse. Until we change our style we will continue to suffer more of these types of injury than most clubs, that is our call no one else’s. Let’s face it we all want Wenger to go out and sign a 6ft 4″ centre half that kiicks em up in the air and big no nonsense DM, but it is not his style and for that we have to suffer the consequences on one hand and marvel in the style on the other.

A bit too relaxed. I hope it’s just because they’ve been training so hard and the heat

we have been very good on the left with wilshere, arshavin and traore but on the right walcott and nortvedit havent been able to link up and its been a bit disappointing on the right wing

what worries me is that with our lineup teams can easily defend with 10 men and put on striker on the half way just playing of the last defender.
They will keep playing long balls behind the defense and in the end they will get through

4-2-3-1 formation is the answer in my view. 4-3-3 can be opened by too easily for me

JET surely got alot more done than Walcott. Theo needs to step up badly if he wants to keep his place.

how stupid is sky sports news. they showed eduardo’s goal scoring record befor and after his injury and said there was not much difference in his scoring rate even though before he had 2.5 games per goal compared to 4.5 games per goals after

Yes, the defence seems a BIG problem, but I thought Nordveit looked promising. (As I predicted, they do mispronounce his name but I dare say he can live with it.)

bc, no, thuggish isn’t too strong a word for a league that’s seen more than a dozen broken legs in recent years. In Spain over the same period there have been none because the refs there issue red cards for the kind of tackles that aren’t even punished with a yellow in England. That’s how it’s possible for Spanish players to learn and perfect the skills that enable them to play beautiful football and win things. But I do understand that most English people think the English style, despite 44 years of failure internationally, is still the best in the world and would hate to see it change into something more modern like in Spain, Germany, Italy, Holland, France, etc. Really only Scotland, Iceland and Norway play the 1960s English style now, and they’re doing just brilliantly internationally. But I agree with you: given the nature of the football here, Arsenal need big, tough old-fashioned players; skilful ones are just a red rag to a Stoke.

If all those players continue developing at the same rate and continue to keep their focus (and switch JET with Wellington), in about 5 years that team can be one of the most beautiful things you will ever see, deeply compounded by the fact that all eleven will be home-grown and can win it all like the scummy Barca cunts.

Obviously with the correct amount of players on the field. But the squad in 5 years time could go on to dominate.

cos he’s the slave of the slimiest agent in football, and the every bit of football success he has will be exploited for a big move and a big fee. wherever he goes, he will end up being transferred to chelsea or city or some other club with an idiot billionaire owner and loose purse strings. he’s a cash cow for his agent masquerading as a player.

See with the thing with Eastmond is, you have to forget what we saw in the youth teams and start over with what we see now. Last year he looked like a completely different player to most of you. To me, he wasn’t different, he completely new and unfamiliar. He was new to me because I hadn’t seen any of him before I came onto this site and learned about the youth teams and the reserves. So for me, he was never a bad player at all!! He is now growing into a lion of a player and I hope he makes it!! He’s the one I’m really pulling for to push for the back-up place to Song. I was never any good until I was put at defensive midfield and he’s exactly the same as I was, just on a much larger scale!! That may be egotistical and selfish, but we as fans love to cheer for players who remind us of ourselves right?? I just hope that he can do well here at Arsenal, or make a career at another club like Fabrice Muamba has done!!

what frimpong is doing now looks good, but he won’t be allowed to get away with it against premier league players. they’ll swat him away like a fly. well done to the kid, but go away on loan and bulk up some first.

Why is everyone so hype over Barazite and Simpson?

If they can’t prove how good they are in other clubs and in training. How the hell are they gonna prove they are class in the first team? Playing with better players than you are will not make you look better if you don’t have the talent to keep up. Barazite and Simpson is not good enough.

Simpson will be a good lower league premier league player or a championship player but Barazite needs to go home to Holland.

This is Arsenal and good talents from all over the world and from the academy are chasing you every day, every year. You need to show class in every training and match you do. Thats what Wilshere and Lansbury, eastmond and a few more do. With this new rule coming it will be even harder to make the first team and we will only be happy with second to none talents. Walcott has no chance of keeping his place in the team and he will be gone by the end of the season. Lansbury, JET, Wilshere and even Eastmond can play in his place. They are ready for premier league.

England squad will be full of Arsenal players in WC 2014. Mark my words. save it so you don’t lose it or make reminder to come back and check this post.

barazite has been given the cold shoulder because he actually has the the gaul to take shots at goal. imagine!

wenger definitely has a blind spot there…thinking it better for attacking players to focus on spotting an assist rather than attempting a shot. our lack of shooting has been a big problem during his reign.

any player who shoots is gradually brought into the no-shooting mindset, and young players who shoot are cut loose. it’s blindness and stupidity.

how many times have we heard it during games? “SHOOOOT!!!”

barazite is awesome, the next pires or beckham.

Yeah I agree with you. Barazite didn’t get a chance (disregarding his injury period). In my opinion a chance goes hand in hand with some good bunch of playing time to create progressive confidence. Otherwise it’s just not fair to judge he’s not good enough to play in the first team. Cause i just think he can easily meet those standards and add some value. The same for the likes of Simpson and Hoyte. It just sucks..Anyway we can only respect the vision of Wenger and the fact he’s buying players from elsewhere. Guess that’s just what football is all about.

nasri is world class already..real football fans will actually notice that he NEVER gives the ball away..seriously count how many times u see him make cheap passes,he may not look like scoring all that much but i agree that he is not a wide player and when cesc leaves he will be perfect for that att mid role,as for the youth i do think we get carried away a bit on here…they have talent but u need soooo much more then that to succeed at this level, mentally, physically, confidence issues wiv young players, injuries that naturally develope in younger players,u really cannot judge a player from there youth developement, theres only 2 players im almost certain will make it at arsenal are wilshere and wellington u can see that they have absolute star quality that dare i say it perhaps rooney/owen had..i really dont get eastmond if im honest u gotta queston wenger on that one!

what’s with all the wellington love?

he’s not even here yet, as far as i can see people are judging the player solely on the basis on that one stepover in that one youtube clip that we have all seen.

      talk about hype.

Gutted about barazite, still hoping it might be a ruse to shock him into putting more effort in, because from what ive seen and heard other players talking, he is absolute class.

A few older players have mentioned him as a great prospect, and from what ive seen he’s been a leading light in the reserves, so maybe a good loan spell could be the realisation of the talent he obviously has. If he does get sold surely a buy-back clause has to be used, much like real madrid do, just INCASE he turns out to be the world class player I feel he could be.

Never seen much of Wellington to be fair, so hopefully he turns out to be a star..

    But….

    Wilshere is the future

obviously i dont KNOW that wellington will be huge but from what ive seen he has a star quality that u sense like ronaldo, rooney, cesc, messi have..u feel something will happen when there in possession,im not for one minute suggesting that he will b as good but he has a aura and that look of confidence and comfort at such a young age that makes a star…the same could be said for wilshere hes only had cameos really so how do we all know he,ll b a star?? its something small u notice that makes u think they,re gonna be the business

let randall go, let simpson go (if you cant score regally for milwal or qpr then you wont for arsenal). Let keera gilbert go and let sanchez watt go on loan (harsh but sunu looks to have far more quality for me.
