Arsenal Accept Hull & Leeds Offers For Simpson

Arsenal have accepted two bids worth £1.2 million from Hull City and Leeds United for Jay Simpson. The 21-year-old will now hold talks with both clubs, although further offers are expected to arrive.

Simpson has received huge interest since being allowed to find alternative employment after a meeting with Arsene Wenger. Bristol City had tried to take the striker on loan but the Gunners are keen for a cash sale, as Jay is in the final year of his contract. Hull City and Leeds United have both had bids in the religion of £1.2 million accepted, although the payment plan is flexible, meaning not all the money would be paid up front.

Jay and agent Uben Gray will now hold talks with the two Yorkshire club’s over the weekend but other interested parties are yet to declare their hands. Queens Park Rangers, who had the Londoner on loan last season, have back-tracked and are now interested. They would be the preferred destination, but no bid is on the table at present.

Simpson has been pulled out of all match action for Arsenal and is only training lightly.

Let’s hope we have 30-50% sell on fee in there as well. Can see him scoring goals and moving on for 6m within a couple of years.

Though a 1 – 2 million fee seems reasonable for Jay, I’m frankly surprised Arsenal didn’t persuade one of his suitors to pay a more than nominal amount. Championship/lower premiership clubs have a propensity to overvalue peripheral Big Four youngsters. Frazier Campbell commanded over 6 mill, if I remember correctly (?).

Theres probably a sell-on fee clause or something.
Jay’s a pretty good player, and if he works hard, gets experience and improves a few small aspects to his game, I think he can be a PL player. Maybe even an england international.

£1.2m? Is that all he’s worth? I thought this boy once had a future at Arsenal, but hey, he seems to be a championship player at best it seems.

We need to slap a sell on fee on him, but whilst we are getting rid of the deadwoods in the team, we might aswell sell Randall. I cannot really see him making it at Arsenal.

Better to get a % buy on clause into a deal in general rather than ramp up initial fee imo, if it works out the upshot can be very lucrative as in David Bentley to Spurs case.

If a youth team player hasn’t shown that he can make some meaningful long term contribution by the age of 21, the writing is more or less on the wall at a club like Arsenal these days really

There is no information on who’s been promoted to the first-team. Various players have been training with the first-team, there’s no decision yet. Loads of players will get numbers, but only a couple will move into the first-team proper.

Nothing about Mexes, just speculation. He’s very mistake and injury prone anyway IMO.

We never have fully fit strikers. Already Bendtner is ruled out until october and we know how brittle VP is leaving only chamakh to lead the line.

I’d say it’s worth keeping this lad and giving him a run out a bit more regularly

      I agree.

Don’t think Simpson would ever be much more than a stop-gap for those in front of him who get injured, but that is a very valuable role to play for a club like ours where injuries are so common.

I believe AW sees this value in Simpson as well, but chose not to stunt the development of a young man he’s taught from a young age. He probably wants to see him do well and knows that using him as a role player for 2-4 more years will do nothing towards him realizing his full potential. If this is the case, good luck to him. And kudos to AW for doing the right thing.

i hate to say it but another english casualty to the foreigner army….i always liked jay as a player and person he’s a born and bred arsenal fan he loves the club and when ever we bother to play him he scores goals, a double in pre season along with a hatrick and a double in his carling cup appearences….goals out on both of his loan spells as well means the boy has a fine scoring record and dare i say it if it weren’t for the durth of foreign youngster we have and foreign players along with wengers attitude towards english youngsters we could be saying goodbye to a player who could of trod a similar path as ian wright, its a crying shame but i wish him all the best in life and his career…sad to see you go jay goodluck mate

no just no he is being sold because he is older than the others and he doesn’t play the arsenal way he’s a good striker and goalscorer but he won’t suceed here without changing his game and don’t BS with the foreign army seeing as most of the youngsters being pushed into the first team are ENGLISH wilshere, frimpong, JET, Lansbury ETC

p.s randall is abit of an enigma, i agree his attitude sucks a little and he’s never shown much, but the boy has an uncanny ability to underachieve and just when people say time to go marky he goes and scores from inside his own half like he did the other day….i say keep him for alittle while longer maybe a year and give him the chance he’s 20 now not a kid last chance i might add
