Loanees – Botelho Scores On Cartagena Debut

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

Sanchez Watt played 69 minutes as a striker for Leeds United as they beat Watford 1-0. Watt turned in another classy and hard working shift in attack before being replaced by new signing Ross McCormack. Minutes before coming off, Sanchez was booked for showing dissent.

Kyle Bartley racked up another 90 minutes at centre back for Sheffield United against Preston. Bartley had a rather quiet game which was decided by his defensive partner Jean Calve, who scored the only goal. Bartley had the tricky task of marking Man Utd loanee Josh King.

Luke Freeman came off the bench and played the final 10 minutes for Yeovil Town against Oldham Athletic. Freeman, still struggling with a shin injury, did win a free kick late on, but it was headed over by Paul Huntington. It finished 0-0.

Francis Coquelin was an unused substitute for Lorient as they beat Lyon 2-0 at home.

Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes at left back on his FC Cartagena debut. The Brazilian made an early mistake to allow Xerez to equalise after Cartagena had took the lead, but the 20-year-old turned in an exciting second half shift. First he won and then took a corner which Pascal Cygan headed over, then after FCC took the lead, Botelho made it 3-1 with a fine left footed finish inside the box.

Samuel Galindo watched from the stands as UD Salamanca drew 1-1 with Cordoba. The Bolivian midfielder only had his work permit granted on Thursday, so is not yet match fit.

He’s applying for a work permit to work in SPAIN. He needs a work permit for ENGLAND to play for Arsenal. He applied for one here but it was rejected.

I was the most excited Wigan fan ever for 90 mins this weekend!!! Very pleasing to see the scum and city drop points from winnable games so soon into the season.

What do we think of Tottenham…? $;^)

Good to see Pascal Cygan has gone on to bigger and better things than Arsenal… FC Cartagena is clearly a step up… (sarcasm btw…and yes I know he’s old and on the downward run, but still, he was awful)

strange that he was voted Villarreal player of the year in his first season .People should stop posting when they don’t know about football,
Cygan was a good player but he was too slow to play for our style of play ( like Senderos).Because somebody have a bad spell in one club ,that’s doesn’t say he is a crap player.

Dont even go there with a list of awful players, Stathis Tavlarides, Kaba Diawara, Stefan Malz, Alberto Mendez, Amaury Bischoff the list of Wenger’s flops are endless. One day someone will publish the good v the bad. I am not saying that Wenger has done a bad job on the contrary, but when you look at the bad signings and yes there have been more of those than good signings, the trophy less seasons in his reign and yes there have been more of those than successful ones, he does not appear to be the greatest Arsenal Manager of all time as some hold him up to be. I dont count community shields, so only 5 trophy winning seasons v 8 nothing seasons, no European trophies, no league cups.

JS, I’m not sure how receptive you will be to this idea, but could you possibly do a couple of posts pertaining to the academies of our rivals (ie Chelsea, United, City, Pool, Spurs)? Most people – including myself – live in a vertiable stupor of ignorance about other youth systems, barring the occasional glimpse of their players when they take on Arsenal, or a couple of generic comments heard in passing.

I’m presuming a lot about your omniscience regarding youth football, but if you possess the requisite knowledge, I think one (objective) post on each of those teams would be great, to give people a sense of perspective perhaps, and to see where Arsenal is relative to the youth of other teams, on a kind of pseudo-holistic level.

Oh and to segue quite neatly indeed from my previous post, does anyone rate the depth and breadth of young talent at Liverpool’s disposal? I only ask because I saw an article (http://www.aliverpoolthing.com/2010/08/lads-can-play.html) eulogising over their up-and-comers. Every indication I’ve seen personally says they have the worst quality and quantity of potential out of all the clubs with Top 4 pretensions. Martin Kelly is hideously overrated for me; the same applies for Dalle Valle. Even Pacheco, who looks a good prospect, has been subject to some totally disproportionate hype. Conversely United fans hardly seem to mention Macheda these days, even though he is imo far more prodigious and would seem to justify massive hype.

The list of 5 you mentioned wasn’t exactly great evidence to your statement, apart from Diawara who cost about 1.5million which isn’t a great loss, the rest cost below 1million,Bischoff being free and after leaving us was called up by Portugal so can’t be too bad,the others were all under half a million.
Alberto Mendez was part of our 97/98 squad and he did ok when called apon,Tavlaridis didn’t even get a chance to impress so that’s harsh.
To name his bad buys you’d have to say Jeffers due to the price tag and Richard Wright, both english too,I think paying small amounts for players who could go on to great things but haven’t quite made it shouldn’t be deemed so much failures, but these 2 deserve the titles.
Wenger has made more great buys than he has bad ones,by a MILE!

LELE – Great post, nice to see some proper debates rather than Wenger hating.
I kind of agree, although I think Pacheco and Dalle Valle are good players I really don’t understand the hype much either,on the other hand I don’t watch a lot of them and am probably basing it more on when our boys gave them one hell of a beating in the youth cup.
Their centre half Ayala in particular was so poor over the 2 legs (think he was sent off in one of them) yet he manages to break into the Liverpool first team squad on regular occasions.
I certainly don’t think their youths are anywhere near as good as ours,Man Utds,Aston Villas or dare I say it,the deluded ones down the road.
Put me down as the second to ask for youth reports on other teams,I think that’d be a great idea.

I agree about Liverpool – they haven’t had a decent academy product since Gerrard. it’s certainly possible that Spearing, Darby, Kelly, etc. could become stars, but I think it’s pretty unlikely – if Spearing/Darby had that kind of potential, then why would Hodgson be adding all these central midfielders? Jonjo Shelvey is their best prospect but he was signed from Charlton…

Man Utd have the best youth and they have for decades, as much as it pains me to say that. the most recent class – Jonny Evans, Darron Gibson, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Matthew James, etc. – looks great. all of those players are already Premiership quality, and honestly Evans is probably good enough to crack our starting eleven… and that’s not counting the players they’ve sold off who have had decent careers, like Shawcross, Fraizer Campbell, Ebanks-Blake, or the guys they get from abroad… but I think we’re getting closer and closer to that level.

J, Any news on Gilles Sunu ? Also i like to see JET and Barazite giving a chance in the first team before any new signings? On Arsenals website they updated player profiles why aren’t the lads that were promoted to first team listed? J and others did anyone notice in Blackburn game Cesc and AA watched Blackburn player go down field they could at least tried to chase down players it seems to common among players these days? Who in the youth ranks chases everyone down no matter what? Peace

btw, those who are asking why is pedro playing for small team dont know anything about football. you cannot loan your player to a big team, what if he decides to sign for them. we are paying his salary remember. the idea is to keep him match till he’s ready for first team. i know arsene will keep him till he improve his game in the epl. if silvestre can play for arsenal pedro certainly can.

also publishing a list of arsene flops is childish. wenger buys players and work to improve them. he doesn’t always go for the finished article thats why he doesn’t pay for the full market price. how long did song and walcott last before they finally start to pay off, i believe diaby’s gonna have a great season. not sure about fabianski we should wait and see. but all these players wouldnt get a chance of first team at chelsea or man u, walcott made a right decision to work with arsene. sir alex would have wrote him off shipped him to championship football longtime ago.
