Wellington Silva Launches Blog For Arsenal Fans

Wellington Silva has announced he will be writing a regular blog for Brazilian news agency Globo. The aim of the feature is to update his huge fan base on how he is acclimatizing to life in England and to also give general news updates on what he’s learnt so far.

The 17-year-old published his first article this morning. It read;

“Hi, my name is Wellington Silva, Fluminense footballer. Starting from next year I will play for Arsenal in England. I am in the UK going through a period of acclimatization to adapt to the area and better get to know my future teammates. This blog will allow you to know how my day to day life is going in England. I will stay in Europe until 5th September. You can be sure that I will have many things to talk about.”

“I know that it will be really difficult to get used to life in England, above all the weather, the language and food. Therefore I am taking English lessons and am going in search of new experiences. During this period I have already played in four friendlies for Arsenal’s B team. We won three and lost one. I managed to score a goal in our match with Manchester United last week.”

“All the best. I will let you know more tomorrow.”

Can’t wait for him to join. Is he going straight into first team reckoning? or staying with the Reserves?

Like the fact that he specifically mentions scoring a goal against Man Utd because he also scored a goal in atleast one other game. Already learning a thing or two about the history or he is just excited to score a goal against one of the biggest teams in the world.

Is he comparable to any of our 1st team players in the way he plays his game??

I like this. Maybe it will give some fans better perspective on how hard it is to adapt to a new country. Sometimes we tend to think these players are robots and don’t have to deal with anything off the pitch. Maybe people will complain a little less instead of throwing players under the bus after a few bad games.

Gilberto being the humblest and sanest Brazilian footballer of the past decade meant he was able to enjoy moving without complaining or acting like a party animal or whatever and he really came to appreciate London and everything to do with Arsenal. He then passed on this mentality to Denilson, taking him under his wing. Now you never hear anything but praise for living here from Deni. Hopefully he can make this a tradition – older Brazilian helps younger one acclimatise into an Arsenal shirt and HOME (until we end up with Wellington introducing the next Pele to his cockney wife or something :D )

I see him as being an impact sub, Carling Cup type player for the next 18 months. You would think there’s Rosicky, Arshavin, and Vela ahead of him, so he will probably initially feature in the reserves in January when he comes. Perhaps he might make the bench for the odd match late in the season for experience or due to injury of some key players.

No need to add too much pressure onto the 17 year old’s back then – only be as good as a Ballon D’Or winner. It’s like we never learnt from Theo ‘Next Henry or he’s an absolute failure at the start of his career’ Walcott.

What about his work permit. Will he be allowed to play in England or will Arsenal have to send him out on loan to some Spanish 3 rd league team?

On a side not i just found out were not even going to be streaming live reserve matches as well as academy matches this season! I dont get the point of this, surely any scouts would go to the matches to see the players close up not watch them on arsenal tv

I just read you twitter post about new ideas for your sight.

How about Player ratings. prize competitions, polls etc

Also i agree i think we have got 4 quality defenders in Djorou, vermaelen, koscielny, squillaci.

And i really like the look of Havard Nordtveit do you think he will go on loan and also has he signed a new contract yet hes got one year loeft he could leave on a free

I think he will sign a new contract but I doubt wenger will send him out on loan because he has so much flexibility he can play as a CB, RB and DM

    ARSENAL ATTACK

Nacer Barazite has return from his trail at Rangers and could feature tonight for the reserves against Bolton. The question now is if this should be consider a good news for Nacer or a tip of iceberg that perhaps Nacer is not as great as I highly rated him during training.

I presume he was a lock to join the SPL champion, but perhaps there’s more would be interesting to know

I think you forgot one Brazilian in that transition that you were talking about.. Edu was here before Gilberto and helped him acclimatize to life in London. I wish Edu had stayed when Viera went.

Hey J, this is Wellington Silva’s blog for today at http://globoesporte.globo.com/platb/brasilmundialfc/2010/08/25/3653
    keep up the great work!

Since I arrived in England, I have noticed that the Europeans – especially the English – are in love with football. As I mentioned previously, last Thursday we played Manchester United, in a friendly game that was used as preparation for my season with Arsenal reserves that officially starts on 25 August. The game took place in Tallaght Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Lots of fans of both clubs were at the stadium, even though it was the two reserve teams and the game was taking place in a neighbouring country. I was really impressed with the the people that came to watch the game.
It’s good to know that I will play in a place where there are so many people who are passionate about football, just like Brazil. I hope, when I return to England in the future, that the fanatical Gunners supporters will always be on my side.
    See you!
