Huddersfield Town Extend Afobe Loan

Benik Afobe will remain on loan with Huddersfield Town, Young Guns can confirm. The League One outfit have reached an agreement with Arsenal to keep Afobe beyond the original December 4th deadline.

The 17-year-old has impressed in his short spell in Yorkshire, bagging three goals and three assists in just seven matches. Manager Lee Clark has lauded Benik publicly, calling him “another fantastic young player from the Arsenal production line.” However, Arsenal did step in and ask Clark to be careful over the amount of playing time the youngster was receiving, fearing burnout.

The extension will see Afobe remain with Huddersfield until January, where more talks will be held over a potential deal until the end of the season. Due to the conditions of the loan, the striker will be available for all of Arsenal’s FA Youth Cup commitments.

You can follow Benik’s progress throughout December in Young Guns’ regular ‘Loanees’ roundups.

    What is the point of him coming back to play in the U18 youth competition..if he can hold his own with adult players in a tough league – (if its about development he should stay where he is).;

It worked for Wilshere and Lansbury. Wilshere was with the first team and then played FA Youth Cup, and Lansbury came back from Scunthorpe for the finals. So… It works.(for them) No idea why he should not be allowed to showcase his new skills at lower level.

Mate I’ve been watching Huddersfield for 43 years and watching Afobe leaves me with the same feeling that I got when a young lad called Frank Worthington was given a chance in the first team.
He is going to be brilliant. He’s strong, fast knows how to score and is not greedy.
Him and Jordan Rhodes play well off each other and could be the best combo in league 1.Hope we get him for the rest of the season, get promoted and get to keep him for another season in the championship.
A big thanks to your staff for lending him to us.

if he can carry on like this then he might be able to get into arsenal first team in 2-3 years time.
Wenger wants strikers who create and score and Benik is certainly doing that even at this young age and at a place like league one

It’s also good for a player’s development to win things – this may well be why they bring him back. Even if they don’t win, they get experience coming close (touch wood), and this is the sort of mental development that you can’t get unless you actually win things. It’s why we are in the Carling Cup to win it, not just develop young players. The line this season is that winning the CC provides the basis for future trophies.

He is our player, we can point out and use him where we like. I am sure within the arrangement minutes on the pitch will be involved, the kid is only 17, he is no rooney, hence he is at Huddersfield, gaining some experience and hopefully help them to promotion or at least the play offs. The FA Youth Cup has always been a prestigious trophy for Arsenal, it allows us to measure the quality of our squad and gives the youth players a sense of unity, no matter where they are reserves, u18’s, u16’s or even out on loan.

A successful season in League One could lead to your wish of him being on the bench next season at Arsenal. Alternatively he should be loaned to a Championship side short term next season – however best advice would be one that is going places not a struggler and one that plays the right type of football for him.

I think gibbs and wilshere are world class players in the making and theo will be a quality player as well, but the fact is wenger FAVOURS the english players coming through. That’s why we didnt do much to keep hold of merida and why vela can’t get a game no matter how well he plays in his sub or cup games, while theo gets a 60k pw contract before he’s played well twice in a row.

yeah 19 sounds good. whats the point to rushing a boy to injuries? In premier league they mean business, if they can’t stop you they will tackle you and one day you will be injured for many weeks in total and you will never be in form again. that will takes even longer to mature in the gameplay and the experience will be gone with the wind. Lets see how much longer Bendtner, arshavin and rvp will stay. at this point I can’t see how bendtner will become our future for many years when he clearly needs to work on his techniques to do anything right. yeah sure he scored but what an assist from Vela. JET is SO much better wih the ball at his feet and again he ddn’t looked bad when he came on, keep in mind he had 8 min or so to impressed and our play was slow and the priority was keep the ball and stay focused. Wenger said he might be loaned out and I don’t want him to make the bench and only get to play the last min to play for. He shold go to a premier league team cus hes that good and many bottom and middle teams needs him.

@TYSON: don’t worry. In Brazil, Muricy Ramalho is widely known by not using kids. He did the same with denilson. When Arsenal made an offer for Denilson, Muricy was coaching Sao Paulo and didn’t even know who Denilson was. There are a lot of reports saying how bad he treats the young players. And he dropped Wellington because he is already sold. He may be a winner, but he doesn’t know how to treat youngsters.

JS heard phil roberts broke his leg massive blow. I really think he can break through at arsenal. Arsenal dont have a striker like him. Ansah, afobe are similar. Roberts has got that x factor

Josh rees is still injured. But alban banjaku has done really well. Does he have enough pace to play on the wings?

JS its also quite suprising to see the arsenal under 18s defend so badly especially under the guidance of steve bould.

I am not convinced by Martin angha he doesnt look like a centre half to me. Maybe a right back or defensive midfielder. I prefer hajroivic and montiero. From what i have seen from Steve smith he looks a bit small for me but its his first year

John I am sorry but I think your an idiot why da hell would you say that…your basically messing with the kids mentality even though i am sure Afobe knows better than to make you affect his ambition…I dont ever recall any player being good from the get go…they practically work hard to get where they are…look at henri when he came he was nothing compared to what he turned out to be…so use your common sense Afobe has the foundation to become top notch. All he has to do is work hard…

I doubt he would respond to a genuine fan. I personally think the lads got a cracking future, if not at arsenal, another big club! he is a fantastic finisher and from what ive seen he’s got more than just goals. Lets hope he makes it here though and even smashes thierrys records.

John – If you checked Afobe scoring stats and in particular the teams around Europe who have been watching him and at the grand old age of 17 – I think the kid is doing remarkably well. To e-mail the kid and say he is not good enough is just insane. 7 matches, 3 goals and 3 assists. AND ONCE AGAIN 17 years old. Yes Wiltshire was around at that point and so was Fabregas but Fabregas was an exception because he is WORLD CLASS and received and played with Messi and Pique but Arsenal have Bentdner, Vela, Arshavin, Walcott, RVP, Chamakh and even Jet infront of him. So at 17 Wenger believes he is good enough to play first team football at a competative level. So to sum it up chief…think you need to remove your balls from the view of your eyes.

Bould- “Well, he scored three goals and made 3 goals in his first seven matches on loan in Division 2. If he works hard and keeps up that pace he could have 15 goals and 15 assists in a 38 game season. That’s not bad for a 17 year old. He’s doing more than just score goals.

The John Dude – “Bould, you and the other coaches are thick. You don’t get it do you. All he does is score goals. Jeez…people are dumb!”

Henri Lansbury – “Ahhh…hey coach, ummm, you might want to leave that dude alone. He’s weird. I think he’s slow. He follows me around all the time and just tells me how great I am. Fuckin’ weirdo…”

Spurs John: Hey listen you suck at math I am smarter than you why don’t you listen to me?? I am realistic apart from you. You will never ever be an architect because you really suck at math.

A few years later… The kid became an architect because he wanted to prove his dad wrong and worked really really hard to catch up for the lost talents of raw math skill.

I have seen him play many times and aside from his finishing ability, his positioning is amazing. He scores goals. He is a massive prospect and you telling him he wont make it is the perspective of someone who isnt involved in football. Bould and wenger are as is guardiola at Barca who tracked him. potentially Arsenals most promising kid at the moment you keep putting him down until he reaches the first team.

I’m a Huddersfield Town supporter and we have a good setup thanks to our chairman Dean Hoyle who puts his money where his mouth is because he is also a HT supporter.
Perhaps we have a chance to get into the championship sometime in the future but one thing is for sure we are well capable of playing decent football at this level and Lee Clarke is still learning as a manager.

I can totally understand that Arsenal don’t want to burn Benik out and he is your asset, his loan deal as a HT supporter is a great for us and I can see that by regularly playing with a good bunch of players he will gain the experience he needs to ultimately play at a higher level.

Surely the Arsenal management will be watching the match DVD’s to assess Benik’s progress in our team, he needs to attain a level of play that supports the possibility of him playing in the premier league and this means he needs to be MUCH BETTER than 99% of league one players to achieve this?

For myself I can only thank the Arsenal officials and club for loaning him to us and I hope he stays until the end of the season, what a great young prospect you have in the pipeline!
