Loanees: Brawling Bartley Loses To Mannone

Welcome to this Boxing Day special Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

Vito Mannone and Kyle Bartley both played the full 90 minutes as Hull City beat Sheffield United 3-2. Despite going 2-0 up with a brace from former Gunner Jay Simpson, United bounced back with two second half Ched Evans goals. Jimmy Bullard won the game late on after Mannone kept his side in it with a fine save from Andy Reid.

Bartley was booked in the 68th minute after a coming together with Hull captain Ian Ashbee, who was also shown yellow. Ashbee’s over zealous kick out on Kyle saw the two clash, with punches apparently thrown as part of a 21-man brawl. With the scores at 2-2, Mannone was forced to make two key saves to maintain his unbeaten record with The Tigers, one notably from an Reid free-kick. That save kept Hull going, and with just seconds left, they nicked the three points through Bullard.

Bartley headed straight at Mannone from a corner, his quick thinking saw him bowl the ball out and Hull went up the other end, and despite having an initial shot saved by Simonsen, Bullard slammed home.

Elsewhere, Benik Afobe came off the bench to play 36 minutes for Huddersfield Town against Hartlepool. Afobe came on with The Terriers 1-0 down, and despite causing problems with his pace and power, he had little services and Lee Clark’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat.

Seems like Mannone, against all odds and popular views of him being crap, is showing his worth.

Chesney’s route to be No.1 may not be as easy as you all think.

I always felt Mannone had it in him to be a decent keeper. As per usual with a section of our shite support, he was written off for a few mistakes.

I aint saying he will make it at Arsenal, but he certainly isnt shite and proving his worth ot seems for Hull. Good on him.

He isn’t shite but with Fabianski and Chesney very young aswell it will difficult for him so will probably have to move on.

Saw Bartley incident, looked like the Hull player threw a punch first and then Bartley but didn’t connect properly and then Mannone came and dragged him away.

Sounds like an exciting game! Look forward to seeing some highlights of that, and it looks like Jay Simpson’s starting to come good for Hull.

Mannone has always been a talented goalkeeper, but because of Szczesny some ignorant fans had in their mind already discarded him as ever having a future at the club. Many goalkeepers have to wait until their mid to late 20s to be made a no.1, it’s not a position where chances come along very often or managers are willing to take a risk.

Well the lads are developing nicely i would say and u can not tell who will be our number in the next campaign, right now they are doing their best for the team they are at and that is all we can ask, next year i think there will be a lot of changes. We have a lot of talent sitting on and some will have to go and these young guns are ready to take the space.

Vito mannone such an underrated player.

When hes had his chance hes done well.

I feel sorry for vito it should be him and szcensy competing for the number 1 position

Fabianski has had alot of chances i do feel sorry for vito in that aspect.

Guys do you know any good software for removing DRM rights?

      talking bollocks (as per usual)

Anthony u muppet mannone has played well for the first team.

Awful? Tell me some games where he has been awful for arsenal?

Hes played 4 or 5 games and we have been unbeaten you must be a mug if you think mannone has been awful.

What a numpty judging a player over 5 games and saying hes awful.

I have watched him from the reserves hes a quality goalkeeper hes been unlucky with the chances hes had.

From what i have seen of him at hull he looks alot more physical, comes for crosses etc.

Doesnt flap at them like he used to

Crikey, I actually agree with John for once.

Mannone is a very talented young ‘keeper, he’s just unlucky to have an even better and younger goalkeeper to compete with (and be compared to) at Arsenal.

If Vito had Szczesny’s height and confidence I don’t think there would be much between them.

i think mannone played great in few games he played for us, shame that fans judge him just on west ham game where he parried a shot on path of carlton cole.

He is late bloomer and may not end up in Arsenal but he will definately be starter for some champions/europa league in few years from now.

Well Almunia’s only record was a reserve GK for a Spanish second division team Celta Vigo. Yet could become No.1 for AFC for years even though not good enough. Mannone was great when he had his chance bar a game against West Ham which we didn’t lose. Compare Fabianski’s chances and his flaps. Mannone will make it here because he’s better than Almunia.

off the topic but don’t you guys think that wilshere would benefit from a loan spell in spain let say atletico, valencia or even bilbao just to add that bit of flair&variation ex-dribbling,side stepping and faster link up play which is sadly extinct in our play.i know many of you will critises me for this but seriously how many english players dribble.maybe we could fix a deal with bilao for munian and three loans-wilshere,jet,lansbury+cash,it’s a win win situation

@mstq Never going to happen in a million years. Anyway, Bilbao only have Basque players in their squad.

You actually asked the question how many English players dribble and then went on to mention JET in the same paragraph. ;)

It would be pointless loaning our british players to a team in another country.
I dont know where to begin with that one!!

Some time ago you Jamie wrote a couple of articles of lads who didn’t made it here. I think something of this should be writen about Jay Simpson. Lately he scored a goal or two while previous to that he was sitting on the bench.
Sorry for my english I hope you all understand what I was going to say.

You would not get that deal done with Bilbao as they only sign basque players

@mstq let me school you for a bit what will Jack learn about quick passing in Spain have you ever watched a game in Spain or even on t.v ?
Spainish football is played a much slower and measured pace than English football except in the last 3rd of the pitch.
Another Question have ever watched Jack or JET properly you want them to learn skill and dribbling and quick passing?
Mate maybe you are new to Arsenal Youth or not seen enough of Jack or JET probably your best bet is to go to youtube and type in thier names.

I think Mannone is the most technically gifted keeper we have….but that’s my view.
He just needs more games. We saw a glimpse of his talent at Fulham last season where he won the match for us single-handedly.
I can’t remember many(if any) Arsenal keepers doing that for us lately.
