Nigeria Hope To Tempt Arsenal’s Aneke

The Nigerian Football Federation are hoping to meet with Chuks Aneke in the coming weeks in a bid to clarify his international future. Aneke was born in England but is eligible to play for Nigeria through his parentage.

The Super Eagles appointed Samson Siasia as Head Coach in November following a selection of poor performances during the World Cup. Siasia promised to improve the attitude and performance of the national team and to seek new blood. Aneke, who is regarded as one of the best emerging prospects at Arsenal, is seen as one of many potential coups Nigeria could make as they start to build for a new generation.

The 17-year-old is an England Under 18 international and has represented the country of his birth since school boy level. However, a selection of Nigerian news outlets have followed his progress and the hope is that he would defect from England.

No talks have been arranged yet, but Siasia is ready to personally travel to London for talks with Aneke.

Exactly. Arsenal trained him but Arsenal are an English club and he is born and bred in England.

He does owe something to England in my opinion plus he is representing England through youth level. If he decides to represent Nigeria at senior level then it is a bit of a joke.

    John, are you being serious…

They don’t owe England anything, they owe arsenal, they decide their future, neither of them don’t want to be like amieobi or even Carlton Cole.

They want to play International Football all the time and look how England (the country he owes:L) sticks him in the U-17 and U-18s team when he is better than half the U-19s.

Have to agree with this. It is one thing for countries that put their youth development more in the countries academies but it is not England that is developing these kids. It is Arsenal. You could thank France more then England to be honest.

Things is and lets be honest here black english players dont get real support and love from the fa, so this is likely to happen sooner or later. Both Frimpong and Aneke are good enough for under 21s football once they have had a few first team games.

Yes and the world hates black people blah blah blah. It has nothing to do with that. Tired of hearing the complaints. Afobe, Smalling, Walcott, Ferdinand, Lescott, Cole, Johnson, Muamba, Defoe, Huddlestone, etc don’t get to play with England because the FA don’t support black people?

I always wish for anything that will improve the overall competition in balance of football. Bigger footballing nations always snatch up talent that comes from other countries while smaller nations (footballing wise) always end up getting the cast offs. This is coming from a person who’s country has lost Giuseppe Rossi and Neven Subotić in recent years.

Your country has lost Giuseppe Rossi? How so? Are you talking about the US? It is a shame he didn’t decide to play for the US but you never really “lost” him. He’s played for the Italian teams from a very young age. His family is Italian.

If Aneke chooses to represent Nigeria, I’m sure he’ll have an equally important role as Okocha had during his best years.

But what I’m also sure of is that England would benefit from the english talents with african origin that is coming through right now, like Aneke, Afobe and Frimpong at Arsenal. So don’t let them slip out of your hands, England!

FA treat them all the same; black, asian and etc.

However, it is different with afobe and all those named above, Nigeria and Ghana are Top nations in the footballing world while the countries like Jamaica, DR Congo and etc. lose their talents to England due to them not being on the same level as the countries i named above.

If England can’t see Aneke’s talent then it will be their own stupid fault if Nigeria convince him to defect to them.

And if it happens it would only be good for Arsenal. England have done nothing but damage Theo Walcott: taking him to a World Cup he wasn’t ready for, then rejecting him from a World Cup he fully deserved to be a part of, as well as injuring and fatiguing him by making play for both the senior and U21 sides.

And they’ll only be too willing to do the same thing to more of our players. Wilshere and Gibbs too will probably suffer the mental and physical torture of being an English Arsenal player.

Lets be honest, i doubt there is a huge immigration problem with people trying to get into Africa. Plus it is pretty obvious that there is a lack of structure that presides over a large part of Africa. You only have to look at how well African players do when they come up in the French system verses coming up through the African system. It is a shame but it is the truth unfortunately.

Good luck to him, whichever team he chooses to play for. There are only so many players that can play for England, and he is not guaranteed to be a regular.

It’s not about race or colour. He may just come to prominence when there is already a more experienced player occupying the slot that he would hope to fill, and it might be easier to get a regular place with Nigeria.

As long as he plays for Arsenal and does us proud, that’s enough for me.

I’m sure they owe their parents alot more than they owe England as it’s their DNA that produced such powerful players and England can take no credit for that and their development can’t be credit to England either as it’s a Frenchmen who has got an eye for African talent who has nurtured them into the players they are today. So respect these young men and their heritage because as an Arsenal fan I would support any decision they make and good luck to them both.

Some of these guys such as Aneke and Frimpong are going to find much more joy playing for the likes of Ghana/Nigeria than England. Playing for England is made 2 seem more like a duty than an honour.
And these guys owe nothing to England. A lot of people are talking like if these guys didnt live in England they would be living in poverty. The reality is a good percentage of families come over to England for better education for their children and obviously to earn a higer wage.
Lets face it, playing for England is so unattractive to the modern day footballer. England have not even got a style of play.

If Aneke is ambitous, he should pick England. Same goes to Frimpong. At least they should not make a decision until they are 20-21 years old to see if they are close to the first team. If not they could choose the national teams from Africa.

But if they feel more African than English, than they will probably choose Nigeria/Ghana no matter how ambitous they are.

Wenger should talk to them btw. It’s better for Arsenal that they don’t choose African teams when they will have to leave for the ACN in the middle of the season every second year.

this is what you get for not picking young and upcoming stars for the youth nationals its really really ridiculous not to pick players from winning teams, not only winning teams but very very dominant teams. The national coaches simply throw away talents just because they can. Imagine if JET was from another country, he would have already played for that country and made tons of friends who will convince him to play for the senior side of that country.

Even if England were poor in the last WC, there should be no doubt that England is a bigger football nation and is always regarded as one of the outsiders for the WC. Nigeria was even worse than England in the WC btw.

No matter how well regarded England ‘think’ they are in the football world, truth is that they are truly a second-tier nation along the lines of Switzerland. England haven’t threatened to win anything since Euro ’96 and don’t have what it takes to win anything internationally again for a long time. How long must the world listen to the 1966 chimes of the teams only victory. We’ve all moved on.

I’m a British-born Nigerian myself, and if I was afforded the chance to play professionally, I’d pick Nigeria in a heartbeat without question. Yes I consider myself British but could the majority of people in this small island call me that too? Probably not. I doubt you’d even be able to pronounce my name.

Ghana and the Ivory Coast are recognised as growing powers in football, and Nigeria will be again, too. England are no better than these sides to be honest.

Defenders: Gibbs, Cruise, Bartley, Yannaris, BOETANG
      Midfielders:Emmanual-Thomas, Wilshere, Lansbury, Watt, FRIMPONG
      Forwards: AFOBE, ANEKE, Walcott
… No goalkeeper but Shea could make it but probably not at AFC 1st XI … The biggest stumbling blocks are 1st XI action at AFC and the management throughout the England set-up.

I would imagine that Aneke would spurn Nigeria in favour of England, given that he has represented them at every age level to this point and has an excellent chance of making the senior team at some point.

Aneke is the future of England and I believe that he would be made aware of this if Nigeria are sniffing around.

Personally, I’d like him to represent Nigeria on the international stage. Choosing Nigeria would mean better international exposure, good chance of making it to the first team squad, and who knows, he may even turn out to be a world-beater, considering the amount of talent he possess at such young age.

The only deterrent factor which will restrain him from going with this decision would be the African Cup of Nations. They’re a pain in a*se for most of the clubs. But hey, it is important for development of football in the African continent.

If a robin is born in a sparrows nest, does that make him a sparrow? No if Aneke chooses England over Nigeria, then that should be the talking point, not the other way round. With my Arsenal hat on, i hope he does a Scholes, plays a few internationals then retires, when he realises that he will win FA with Nigeria or England for that matter, so that he can concentrate on his club career which will make him a millionaire.

I do think that England will have a very good NT between 2016-2024, which is during Aneke’s prime.
To be honest, both Afobe and Aneke have a lot of competition for their place.
Aneke will have to compete against the likes of Rodwell, Henderson, Wilshere, McEachran, Barkley, Shelvey, Lansbury, John Swift, Jack Jebb, Nick Powell amongst others. There is no guarantee that he will ever play regularly in the senior team. Right now he finds himself behind both McEachran and Barkley who are the same age as him. I don`t think that the England setup rate him as highly we do. I think Aneke should take his time before making a decision, but ultimately I see him playing for Nigeria.

Afobe has competition for a forward spot as well against the likes of Sturridge, Walcott, Welbeck, Delfouneso, Wickham, Ansah, Lipman, Hallam Hope, Max Clayton, Chubka Akpom, Nile Ranger and Andy Caroll. Afobe might not get into the team enough and currently finds himself behind Wickham.

Whats important is that their loyal to Arsenal. I don`t care who they play for and if Yennaris or Bunkaju want to play for greece or Albania, then thats fine as well.

Do you think McEachran and Wickham are ahead of Aneke and Afobe respectively on merit?

I do not know why there is this Whickham vs Afobe debate because they both great prospects and play togeather in the same England sides apart from the England U21’s game the other week. As for Josh McEachran vs Chucks Aneke, of coarse McEachran is ahead of Aneke at the moment because he is playing in the EPL and the Champions league every other week, where as Aneke is only playing reserve team football so it is obvious which one is going to get more games in the England youth teams because he is playing against better opposition.

whats the point to name so many unproved players? By the time 2016 there will be many more really great players to compete against. and you just happens to name 2 players who hasn’t even played for the u18 side this year… what a competition right there.

Just say Afobe and Aneke will face fierce competition that is a no brainer. I hope to see what Afobe and Aneke can do in championship level in the other half of the season. I believe Aneke can play in championship already but Afobe I am not sure just yet.

Ummm, G. Rossi was born and raised here in America and he didn’t start turning out for the italian youth teams until late in his development. He is a traitor and about as italian as the pizza I ate for dinner on friday.

Also, bc? Aneke isn’t English enough for you, even though he was born and raised in England, and holds English citizenship? That smacks of racism and/or misguided xenophobia.

None of those guys had the talent that Chuks possesses although you make a valid point.

Listen mate, i know you like to think you’re an expert on young English talent currently coming through but let me tell you this. There isn’t an iota of doubt in my mind that Chuks is currently a better all-round player than McEahran. He’s only playing this season because the Russian twat is going the Arsenal route and doesn’t want to just buy success. Hence he lost Ballack, Deco, Joe Cole and Belletti in the summer and replaced them with just Benayoun and Ramires. Benayoun has been out for a while now (as has been the case with fat Frank) so the kid is getting more game time than expected – whilst not really contributing a great deal. Does he look composed? Yes. But so would i if my team-mates were Drogba, Essien, Mikel, Malouda, Anelka, Terry, Alex, Cech, Ivanovic, Cole etc, etc…….

    cont…..

JM has Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Ramires and Benayoun ahead of him for a midfield berth. As for Chuks, he’s behind Cesc, Song, Denny, JW, Diaby, Super Sam, TR7, Eastmond, Lansbury and you could argue Frimpong and Coquelin in the pecking order, hell, i might have forgotten one or two we have so many bloody midfielders.

However, when Chuks finishes his preliminary development stage (18-19 years old), if all goes to plan, he will jump ahead of quite a few of that comp.

McEachran is out of his depth at senior level right now, it’s a fact. Chelsea are struggling because they have injuries and have to do what Arsenal have been doing ALL these trophyless years – rely on the youth who just can’t cut it right now.

I’m sure you knew this already though, right?

P.S. Let’s leave the Wickham/Afobe one for another time.
