Carlos Vela continued his ‘super sub’ antics by coming off the bench to score again for West Brom this evening, this time against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. Vela also struck to earn a point last weekend, at home to Wolves.
Baggies boss Roy Hodgson had said Vela was ready to start games after fitness problems, but surprisingly left him on the bench for the trip to Stoke. However, with the already under pressure Hodgson set for defeat, Carlos entered the game in the 82nd minute.
He instantly changed the momentum against Wolves last week, and he did the same tonight. The 21-year-old took just 5 minutes to make his mark, starting a move on the left, before working the ball wide to Somen Tchoyi. His deflected cross found Vela who was poaching in the box. He finished, to send the visiting fans wild.
However, the goal did have a hint of offside, which left Stoke manager Tony Pulis fuming. Vela had two further chances to win the game, but Asmir Begović saved brilliantly on both occasions.
When will he do the same as consistently for Arsenal I wonder?
when we play him regularly
I feel bad for the guy. At Arsenal he would score goals and then find himself not playing for a month. He goes to westbrom, scores goals and still on the bench.
some people think arsene doesn’t make mistakes.
playing bendtner on the wing ahead of vela is the most ridiculous decision ever.plus, vela is not big and strong but he’s very intelligent. he can sneak behind defenders and most of our crosses get wasted with no one to tap in.
@sam vela on the wing against the o’s scored a hatrick. he’s made pleny of usefull assists and scored recently. yo know nothing about football. vela can even start for albion yet, not saying he hasnt got massive potential mind
still he’s a better player than bendtner, even arshavin is ahead of him because his magic moment that comes once every 10 games.
man, its really stupid to criticise a player who only got 5 minutes and scored. and the 2 donkeys you have in the first team cost us victory again tonight.
There are two things worthy of comment about Vela WBA goals, first both were scored with his right foot (chocolate leg), second both goals were meaningful if Albion managed to stay up. I really like this fella, I think he has pace and skills, but he seems to be his own worst enemy, probably taking a lazy approach at trainig and bragging about past goals instead of looking forward. Maybe the ban he was put on by the Mexican national team was the last straw for Wenger.
