Feyenoord Open Talks Over Miyaichi Extension

Feyenoord have opened talks with Arsenal over extending Ryo Miyaichi’s loan deal. The Japanese winger only joined the Dutch outfit in January, but plans are afoot for talks over a second spell in the Eredivise.

Miyaichi has proved to be a revelation in Holland since completing a short term move on transfer deadline day. His performances have earned rave reviews and, naturally, mass attention from his home land. The news broke this week that the Japan national team selectors are now considering the youngster for two June friendlies, and the Copa America tournament, which takes place a month later.

The 18-year-old needs international caps in order to speed up his work permit application, but even if Ryo does play in all the games being talked about, he would still fall short of the critera needed to be granted a permit in the summer. However, Arsenal are still expected to try again.

Technical Director Leo Beenhakker has held low level talks over Miyaichi, but the full negotiations will be handled by Beenhakker’s replacement, Martin van Geel. He will leave Roda JC in the summer, and his first task is to convince Arsene Wenger to leave the speedy winger in Rotterdam.

Van Geel admitted he had been watching Miyaichi’s development in recent matches in an interview with De Telegraaf.

“It is wonderful that such a talented boy can play for Feyenoord. I have seen his first few matches and I’ve only seen great things from him.”

Arsenal still plan for Ryo to return to London in the summer for pre-season training.

nice article… If needs some experience in order to play for arsenal. So it would be better to let him play there for one more year.

Surely his huge impact in Holland will give more weight towards him being classed as a “special talent”? I mean before he moved no-one was really expecting him to play for the Feyenoord first team, never mind becoming a key player.

Or does FIFA simply not work like that?

Agreed. If he can play any part i the 2 friendlies and then the Copa is a minimum of 3 games… That is 5 matches at least he should have an opportunity to participate in – combined with the fact that he is obviously one of the most talented youngsters plying their trade in Holland at the moment – should be strong grounds for a “Special Talent” work permit.

Is the “Special Talent” permit handled by FIFA or the UK Home Office? I was under the impression this fell under the jurisdiction of the British government.

Not to do with fifa it is about scoring enough points to win a special talent work visa with the home office.

Well Ryo needs a Premiership loan, just to be sure he can handle English defenders…
I think it’s better to let Wellington on loan to Feyenoord because he’s really struggling in Levante…

The Feyenoord fans are talking about how he’s completely lifted the team and how amazed they are by him. Their players are already talking about how they’re copying his skill. Four games in and he’s a god. The Arsenal shirts are £15 of their website right now and I think I’ll be getting Ryodinho on my shirt.
I know this hyping of him may be premature but so what? We’re allowed to get excited by exciting players.

Ryo should stay at Feyenoord for another season, get into the international set up and learn more then come here more equipped and more experienced. He hasnt played against Ajax, PSV or Twente yet.

Wellington is just 18 and just moved continent, hes been there 2 months, its too early to say anything right now and our guys will be helping out with off field issues. Some players hit the ground running and others take longer to adapt.

i hope wellington gets some game time today just to show levante hes good enough to even start for them as for miyaichi im am shocked at how quick he has transformed froms school kid to starter for one of the big dutch team even though they were having a poor season.i heard that the dutch league has been offered money from some japanees television companys to show dutch football mainly because of miyaichi.

I remember reading that you can only apply for a work prmit once every year. If that is correct the earliest Arsenal can re-apply for Ryo would be January 2012.

Talk about making an impact on loan.
This is what loans should be about, if they make an impact they should come back and get a chance at Arsenal.
So I’d say Miyaichi, Lansbury & Bartley should be in the squad next year, replacing Rosicky, Denilson & Squillaci.
The likes of Eastmond, Sanchez Watt, Randall, Hoyte, Cruise, etc haven’t got a prayer of getting near the Arsenal team.

Paul, you can only apply once per season. That means that Arsenal can apply against for next season in August.
If Ryo is selected by Japan for their two friendlies in June and their participation to the Copa America following their surprise invitation, then Arsenal has a good case for an exceptional talent visa.

I think we should let Feyenoord have him for one more season. Would do him a lot of good and I’d love us to help Feyenoord a bit in the process as they seem to be in a terrible position financially and almost looked like they were gonna get relegated this season. With Ramsey also back, we don’t really need Ryo that urgently so I’ll opt to let him stay and develop further.

Work permits are handed out by the Home Office, but they ask FIFA to decide if a player deserves a ‘special talent’ visa (because the Home Office don’t pretend to know about football).

There are sayings in several Dutch papers that Ryo’s younger brother of 15 may also come to Feyenoord to develop his skills further. Feyenoord did play the last match yesterday together with Ryo with a black crape for the situation in Japan. Feyenoord as a team has found the winning mood again, trying in the last 7 games of the season to conquer at least the 8-th position which gives Feyenoord the right to participate in the so calles play offs for the last ticket for the Europe League. Feyenoord is doing well again, see for that for example the results of the last 5 games (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eredivisie_2010/11#Stand_laatste_5_wedstrijden) which is giving birth to a neat movie at youtube from a supporter: Tragedy Turns To Triumph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG7ZR_kpv3g&feature=player_embedded).
