Arsenal Invite Lukic On Trial

Arsenal have stepped up their interest in Lokomotiv Plovdiv winger Nenad Lukić by offering him a trial.

The 18-year-old left winger was watched by Arsenal during Serbia’s Under 19 qualifying fixtures, where he scored six goals. Manchester United and Chelsea were also there, as were Olympiakos and Hoffenheim. However, Arsène Wenger has made the first move.

Lukić has been invited for a trial at London Colney, with a view to a possible a transfer. It’s not yet clear whether the player will accept the offer or wait and see if Arsenal firm up their interest with an offer, but the race for the youngster is hotting up.

Nenad currently plys his trade for Plovdiv after moving from Partizan Belgrade last season. A pacy, skillful and creative winger, the exciting wide-man is rated as one of Serbia’s brightest prospects.

With that many clubs interested in him, i doubt he’ll need a trial. Someone else will just put a bid on the table and we’ll end up losing him

Great news, by the time he is 24/25, we will have bought the very best wingers in the league so we will always be better than Arsenal, no secret to how we work and you do.

Well, he looks decent from the YouTube clips. Big and strong with good ball control. Also has a great eye for a pass, be it short through balls or pinpoint long passes. Doesn’t seem all that quick to me though. But looks like a player who would do well in the Premier League, he has the powerful build for it.

Cos next season we are switching to a genuine 433 and on occasions a genuine 442. with 2 proper wingers on the flanks. hence we can sell cesc and nasri neither would fit in to that system. we will play 2 or 3 proper central midfielders . wilshere song diaby frimpong lansbury nasri will all fit the bill if nasri leaves then another cm will be bought.

We did not sign that defender and one year later his price is quadrupled and he is off to Man City. We have so many quality scouts that when we find a quality bargain buy would need to jump on it. We can loan the extra players out for a year and see how they develop. We can make money off the ones that don’t make it and bring back the ones that we want. Think about all the talent that we were on to first before anyone else that we chose not to sign and they went on to be worth a good bit of coin. Wilson Palacios , Di Maria, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldinho, Yaya Toure, Gervinho, Ozil, and so many more. We need to be more ruthless in our squad and create a competitive environment. I am all for having belief in our players but competition is everything or players become spoiled and fall in to the security of thinking first team football is a right.

Lukic, a name that brings back fond memories of Anfield 1989.
Not got blistering pace, but from the u-tube clips he looks strong, likes a dig at goal, crosses well, heads the ball, takes the pens & free kicks, worth a punt i reckon…

“We did not sign that defender and one year later his price is quadrupled and he is off to Man City. ”

Or, more likely, we turned him down at £2 million because he isn’t good enough, and City have been gulled into paying four times as much despite him still not being any more talented.

No shit, exactly my point. We felt he was not good enough to move to our club at the moment but a year later he is worth 4 times as much regardless. We have done this time and time again. My point is there is money to be made and we should capitalize on what we are good at and like I said, others that we want to keep, we can keep the ones we like. Think how little Palacios would have cost us and how much Tottenham payed for him just over a year later.

By the way, how often have you watched him play?

Savic is pretty good player with a lot of potential.I’ve seen him playing a lot in Partizan and he was one of the best players. If you think Serbian Superliga isn’t strong enough than watch what he did against us.Just wait and see but I still think AW has made a big mistake.

    @ Shane
I could ask YOU how often you’ve seen Savic play! He isn’t “worth” four times as much, he costs four times as much. You are assuming he has turned into an amazing player, when you could equally assume that City don’t care what they spend. Is he going straight into their first team? Is he better than Jenkinson? I suspect you don’t know the answer to either of those questions, so it seems a little premature to bewail him as one that got away.

I think you are getting confused on my comment. I have no clue how good he is. My point is that in 1 year his value has quadrupled. I am not talking about whether he is good enough for our first team or any of that. I am talking from a making money stand point. Palacios might have never made it here but he sure could have banked us a good profit. Di Maria is one that obviously turned out great and would have made it here. I am just speaking on the fact that we are very good at scouting we could capitalize on it more then we do.

Shane I am also not sure what you are on about! If we had bought Savic for £2m, he wouldnt have played every week, like he has been so therefore wouldnt be anywhere at the level he is now (what level that is, who effing knows!?) So buying 18 months ago for £2m means he’d probably be worth about the same, or perhaps less!? Not very astute that mate.

You just did not read what I said. I said loan out these players and if we want to keep them then we do and the others we will make profit off of. System is pretty successful already from agency groups that buy players and loan them to clubs and then sell for profit. There is no reason a team with the scouting network of ours can’t do similar things. We use to have a set up with Beveren but we need to purchase the rights to a player instead first.

LOL i like the way Shane is thinking. Players are to quick to want to move on these days and its not a bad thing to have too much talent in your squad. Look at boateng for man city right now, one year on and he aint even improved, in fact he’s gonna back as he aint been playing really. Llook how man city still want more then they paid for him and hes shown nothing for them, its too funny!

Back to the subject! I like the look of this guy even more then Ricky, he looks like he shoots even when he shouldnt (and scores), runs at the defence and looks a real good passer long and short. But then again thats just me being a youtube scout lmao!!!

Looks like a neat player with great technique. Seems like he is able to slot in at left back as well. However someone got to deal with what the future lies ahead for traore, botelho, wellington and miyaichi first as the left-sided is fully packed in my opinion. All of them are very young so waiting for one to retire and another to step in is not possible.

I wont be surprised Wenger will blood some of his kids in the epl.In previous seasons he would loan them to foreign teams. So instead of having experienced guys we will get kids.
The only difference is Wenger has taken a different route. If it succeeds, well and good.I suppose he has to take a gamble on the kids otherwise why should he keep on buying the kids.

I do that when I play Football Manager, but I don’t think it would be simple in reality.

In the first place, what’s in it for the young players? I mean, they’re not going to come to Arsenal just so we can make some money out of them: there’d have to be something in it for them. What are we offering them? More money now? More money in future? A better career path? More exposure? Or just something like the Arsene Wenger seal of approval? If you look at a deal like the Savic one, it’s not obvious that moving to Arsenal for a year would have added value over and above the quoted fee.

The other factor to consider is the question of whether all players would be that profitable, or just a few that stick out to us, and whether we’d still make the same profits if we were just trying to turn a buck.

Imagine we’ve signed A. Youngplayer on a cheap transfer, thinking that he might be good enough for Arsenal, and if not, we’ll sell him. Can’t sign him up to a long contract because of his age. Imagine he has been at the club for a couple of seasons, signed a new contract once, and now has a year left. We’ve decided he’s not good enough, and everyone knows he’s for sale. Do you think we’ll still get a good price? If we don’t sell him, his contract will expire in 12 months, and we have nothing to offer him to get him to sign a new one.

Generally, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to leverage the good Arsenal reputation for producing/spotting talent, but once you factor in all the non-obvious costs, the margins are much slimmer than it first appears.

No, I am not saying just buy players to pawn them off. I am saying snap up talents that we find on the cheap. Now if they turn out to be great then they will make it here. If they have a good season or 2 on loan then his price will rise and we can cash in if we don’t want him. You don’t want us to hurt our reputation? What our reputation of not making young players earn there first team spots and thinking every thing is just a given. Wilson Palacios literally ran like 800,000 pounds and 2 seasons later he was sold for 12 million pounds. It is hard to argue that this is not a good idea and that is a clear profit made. Think about it, we signed Ryo for free and 1 year on loan and don’t you think if we wanted to sell, we could make a nice profit.

I’m not saying there’s no money to be made there – in fact, Arsenal earn a nice bit that way, and presumably are always looking at how to make more. It’s just that if you go around snapping up too many young talents, you run into problems.

I mean, sure, this one guy, it seems like we missed out on easy money – but that’s with the benefit of hindsight. With hindsight, I know which numbers I should have put on my lottery ticket… In reality, we wouldn’t just pick up one extra player and make a few million – we do that already. To get so many youngsters that we’re not being picky and went for this particular one would bring into play the complications I mentioned already.

Not sure I’d go that far but yes, OxC is simply a young player with potential on the verge of being wasted in a lowly (relatively) league, Saints are pricing him like a player who’s made it. Ridiculous; but hey, that’s their perogative. Wouldn’t mind him at the club, but he’s a gamble. You don’t gamble with 12m quid. 5m, rising to 10m if he does blindingly, i’d live with.

Wenger seems to be bringing in a lot of pacy young wingers and strikers I think he is planning a change to our current system. We haven’t had as much pace in wide areas in recent years. Barcelona are the ultimate possession team is Wenger thinking of how to beat them? If we have a front line of Campbell Miaichi and Walcott being picked out by the through balls of Ramsey Wilshere etc. Looks like a system designed to beat Barca and as they are developing under the current strategy they will also be able to play possession football as we do now. If the defence is organised and Wilshere, Ramsey or Song learn to shoot from distance we will have a team designed to beat all types.
This is me speculating about a possible future system maybe as many as 5 years away(that’s why I left RVP,Nasri,Cesc etc. out of the offensive line up) so don’t attack me for not telling Wenger to “spend some f**king money NOW!!!”
