Feyenoord Set For Arsenal Talks

Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel has confirmed the club are continuing to talk to Arsenal over re-signing Ryo Miyaichi, as well as other available loanees.

Van Geel revealed the news in an interview with NU Sport this afternoon, where he admitted Feyenoord are in pole position to sign Miyaichi on loan for a second time, should Arsenal’s work permit application be refused. Yet Arsène Wenger is hopeful he can include the Japanese winger in his first-team squad, with a decision expected on August 15th.

Ryo is currently in Lisbon, preparing for the Gunners’ final pre-season friendly against Benfica. A selection of European outfits have already asked about his availability, but van Geel believes Feyenoord are leading the chase.

“I understand that we are top of the list of clubs to loan Miyaichi. Our contacts with Arsenal are good, and I understand that Ryo would like to return to Feyenoord, if he is not allowed to remain in England.”

Van Geel has previously said he intends to fly to London in late August to discuss a deal for Miyaichi. He has since retreated that statement, while also confirming he could look at Arsenal’s other available loanees.

Two players who may well interest Feyenoord are French Under 20 forward Gilles Sunu and Dutch midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup, both of whom are allowed to leave on loan.

    Despite the fact Sunu failed to score for Lorient, or their reserve side last season. He has been impressive at the U20WC, I imagine a lot of smaller European clubs are looking at him.

    I haven’t seen a lot of Özyakup, but it would be a big jump from reserve football to Eredivisie. How highly do people rate him? Could he make the step up?

    Could not really see a french player moving to Holland but you never know. Personally as far midfielders and attackers go, I would like to see them stick around so they can be trained the Arsenal way and we can have a strong carling cup squad. Feyenoord is a good team to go to if he must though.

      I agree with @Hiroo Nakamura the German league is the closest thing you can get to the premiership in terms of physicality.

      Dont forget that Germany were in the Semi final of the WC, won the U21 before the last.

      Last year Shalke were in the semi (something we did not manage) of champs league, and the year before Bayern were in the final.

      There are players such as Ribbery and Robben there aswell as Swinstiger.

      The dutch league is good at building the technical side of a players game, but is a much weaker league than German. If he had the chance to play in Germany it would be a better indication of his game.

      i prefer leroy fer. a strong tall DM that can also play in defence. he’s entering his last year of his contract at feyenoord and doesnt wanna renew. maybe arsene is ignoring him coz he’s counting on frimpong but will be a good addition and a worthy replacement for denilson.

      From what I saw of Fer, he wasn’t a defensive mid really. Kind of box to box but not exactly a dominating tackler. I thought he looked a nice play but not our level IMO. Wijnaldum was the best talent. He has gone to PSV now. They were an exciting team to watch but none of them at the moment stuck out to our standard but some talented players for sure.

    Yes German league is a much better choice. He could do almost what ever he wants to in the Dutch league but in Germany he will find things hard and he will need to step up a bit to be a better player. The dutch league is too weak. The downside would be that he will need to learn a new language and know new team mates again. He is defiantly not good enough for Arsenal. Although he deserve a special talent visa to stay with Arsenal and adopt faster for the PL.

    It may be an idea to wait until the C.L qualification is assured before shipping out what are decent fringe players, be it on loan or for good. If worst comes to the worst and we end up with Europa League football, the benefits of Bartley, Myachi, JET at a push playing in these games are several.

    Watching the Arsenal Benfica match and i must say there is something just a little more tweaking needs to be done. For one Gibbs is inconsistent on defence and offense… he does not drive in on the flanks to support with regularity. We know he passes well a la the cross to van persie but he has to be encouraged to do that more. Secondly they all need to be engaged at all times. when gervinho drives towards goal players tend to stand around and watch the ball… that needs to change. i love the way they interchange gervs position and the way they drop van persie back into a second striker role and bring him back as the main striker. I think that would rip up back lines easy. one last thing they need to attack the ball when the other team has the ball they must be aggressive in retrieving it. they are content with letting the other team play their game… a good team would be able to exploit some of our weaknesses on defense with that much time. Just my opinion.

      Gibbs was easily one of, if not the best player during his time on the pitch last night, he had an excellent 45 minutes. The inconsistency he has displayed previously can probably be put down to a lack of experiencr, but since Wenger doesn’t appear to be looking for a new full back (Enrique would have been my bet), he must feel that Gibbs is ready to step up. Let’s give him a chance and hope he’s right.

    oh and gerv comes back to defend…. i think arsenal forwards should take a leaf out of that book. i think we should buy Subotic or Hummels (in my opinion would be about our price range) to shore up that back line. I love Gibbs… seen a few bashing him but i love love that kid he has pace positioning technique and awareness…. a bit lacking in strength but i’ll live with that.

      You can only hope they’re exerting the minimum energy possible, as with the Nasri situation worsening & Wilshere’s injury (which I have uncomfortable feeling about) the pair of them could be figuring throughout August.

      Squillaci is dire, he seems to instigate no communication with other defenders at all, for a 30 year old international. Shipping Bartley out looks a little hasty until someone else is fully signed up.

      There’s potential in both Jenkinson & Traore for sure, seen enough from both of them, but for now we’re an injury away from being 40 game a season full-backs. If neither are the understudies, then Djorrou & Vermalaen probably are leaving us even shorter at CB.

      The work rate is the same issue which I discussed about us in the regular season. On the ball and in the attacking 3rd, we have great work rate but in the rest of the field we have none. People always think that Barcelona are so great because of the players. Aside from Messi, our players are just as good. The big difference is work rate of Barcelona. They always are showing for the ball so their players always have some one to pass to and they always bust their ass as a group to win the ball back. We don’t do these things.

    Young guns during the Benfica game review:

    Miyachi = 6/10
    Gibbs = 6/10 (could have been more if he didn’t loose the ball for the 1st Benfica goal)
    Frimpong = 5/10
    Lansbury = 2/10 (he was terrible sadly…)
    Traore = 4/10
    Ignasi = 3/10 (for the 5 mins)
    Jenkinson = 3/10

    Very disappointing review, I think Benfica showed us that it is questionable if any of the young guns are ready to start for the Arsenal. Benfica had a tough team on the pitch in the second half, and I think this was a great indication of the above statement. I am a real fan of all these youngsters, and I hope they push on, but there is a lot of ground to push into sadly. That said the seniors in the second half did not help, Chamak was poor, Squiliffi was his usual (it would be less expensive for us if he stays on the bench this season!!!!!!), Ramsay and Vermalen looked tired and Gervinho didn’t get involved (prob. tired). Fabianski was good, but it was clear in free play that he doesn’t communicate enough with his CBs and FBs.

      Ryo got 6??????? HOW????? Ohh yeah he is fast and can do some step over.. thats why.

      He was piss poor and are you gonna blame the others for not giving him the ball?? He was poor with the ball and without it. But hey he is fast. Stupid rating.

      Jenkinson looked alright I think. Lansbury was not that terrible man.. he got the ball sometimes and did ok. And then you give Miguel a 3 ????? For 5 min he barley did anything. So he would have got 7 if he hoff the ball twice to chamakh and chamakh scored??? man come on.

      You’re entitled to your opinion John (one which is often considered BS by many other people sharing on this site), I appreciate the differing view.

      Firstly, Ignasi was on for 5 mins, and he got shagged by a simple long ball over the top that almost resulted in a goal (Fabianski save), so he gets a whopping 3 for his 5 mins from me, end of. Myachi did his job and if you compare him with Gervinho in the 2nd half (who would get a 4) he was the better of the two and showed determination to get forward which is his job. Jenkinson looked out of sorts and when he had the ball he didn’t show composure, and did not find his man for a pass very often at all. Lansbury was bad, I encourage you to watch the game again, he was the worst of the lot.

      Cheers for you input and opinion, if we all agreed, wow the world would be a boring place.

      Where do you think Arsenal will finish this season? Do you think Arsene should go? Did you see what Dein had to say about Wenger?

    I thought Gibbs played pretty well which was a pleasant thing to see. I know he got caught out for the 1st Benfica goal, but he only made one mistake. And he saved our bacon with a good tackle or two!!! I thought Sagna and Jenkinson were horrible!!! Sagna didn’t track back at all. I know it’s only a friendly but still. I don’t really have a problem with Song to be honest. He sometimes holds on to the ball too long but most of the time he holds on to the ball for too long, he’s being fouled anyways. Ramsey still isn’t as sharp as he was when he first broke in to the squad. This is to be expected though. The lack of effort on his part defensively wasn’t though. In a 4-4-2 you gotta track back so that it isn’t 3 against one in the middle and that happened a bit tonight. I hope we can sort this out before it’s too late!!!

    If you haven’t yet noticed that Wenger doesn’t play a less-competent third centre-back and call him a midfielder, then I despair. Arsenal’s DMs are actual defensive _midfielders_, not just hyperactive, positionally poor centre-backs as at some other clubs. As a result, it’s an essential asset that they are good on the ball as well as good defensively.

      It was pretty apparent that there was almost no effort from some of our players. I don’t worry about Sagna because we know he will come good but players like Ramsey was a bit worrying. Chamahk seems to be our 2nd choice striker which is some what embarrassing. I was hoping Gervinho and Vela would be our 2nd choice but it is not looking like that. Squilacci is well….you know.

  • August 6, 2011 at 10:16 pm

    But Sagna’s a full back right??? I actually agree with you on ramsey though. I had the feeling that Wenger told him to be the attacking midfielder in the centre, and it just didn’t work well. I don’t that’s his best role anyway. I like him in the box to box role more if he has the engine for it. Actually what I like best is him and Wilshere together in the 4-4-2. I know that takes Song out of the equation, but I think they can pull that off the best!!! They can both tackle and run and pass!!!

      Song is not the reason we have not won anything lol. Song has been a rock in there. There are plenty of reasons why a trophy has not come our way.

      1) Our constant need to let a crappy defender hold us back. Senderos, Sylvestre and now Squilacci.

      2) Our top striker rarely being able to play half the season (which you simply don’t win major trophies with out a world class striker).

      3) Our expensive stadium that we have been needing to pay of which takes away from the transfer budget.

      4) Our soft players. We seem to get more soft injuries then any other team in the world.

      5) Our overly attacking tactics that become borderline stupid especially when we are up yet we keep attacking with every player we have.

      6) The negativity that runs through our home crowd does not help. A moan after every miss pass.

      7) Our lack of depth in key positions.

      8)Gael Clichy not being able to hold a defensive line.

      9) Heres a big one…. It is fucking difficult when there are teams out there that pay no respects to their debts so the spend money like crazy combined with a couple clubs that simply have not budget limits so it not only helps the competition grow stronger but it makes it impossibe to keep your best talent because they want 200k a week.

      10) Our baby captain who can not take his mouth of Barcelona’s cock long enough to lead our team.

      These are several reasons why we have not been able to push over the hump.

      We seemed more 4-4-2 in the 2nd half to me than 1st, at least for the large part, when we occasionlly switched to 1 up top, Chamakh ended up down the right flank a few times and was completely lost. Hope we won’t replicate Bendtner ending up out there.

      First off Gervinho was not playing striker and Rosicky was not playing winger so there is no way we were playing 4-4-2. Secondly we were clearly playing a lazy 4-3-3 with Song/ Frimpong in behind Rosicky and Ramsey who were simply lazy and Arshavin/Miyaichi and Gervinho on the wings and RVP/Chamahk up top.

      Song is better then most of those you listed. Song is better then Gilberto, Flamini, Edu, and Petit. They just played on better teams and verse weaker competition the this current team which to be honest….our starting 11 is as good as anyone. You can see that when we played the big teams last year. I just can’t understand the beef with Song but then again now I can lol. It is team tactics and lack of movement off the ball. If no body is open, then it is hard to pass. I guess I am going to stay out of these Song debates because I think he is a beast and would not choose any current defensive mid in the world over him.

      Yes, Song is better than those guys. It is the same as always tho…people rate the team when discussing individual talents. Kills me that Valdes from Barcelona has ever won an individual award. He is a horrible keeper. If you gave me a choice between all of those guys to partner Vieira , I would easily choose Song. Song has everything you need from a defensive mid. Strength, great tackler in the open field, ball control, passing and vision. He reads the game really good especially in the 4-3-3 when his job is to sit. I love how he tackles and play strong with out trying to break peoples legs. He has vastly improved his mobility. The only thing he lacks is a good long shot. Personally, I think he gets a wrap for our tactics rather then his ability. He has to do a lot more work individually then a guy like De jong who plays on a very defensive team. Only defensive minded mids I rate along side him are Essein (who is injured now), Fellaini and Yaya Toure (who plays more attacking now).

      I also think Song could play in a more advanced position in the 4-3-3 if we had another defensive mid in there.

      Shane I take your point mate..song is the most improved arsenal player to be honest and like I said he is a top player,but just like you said perhaps he suffers from poor tactics and I suppose he’s the scapegoat as he is propably the most wasteful with the ball out of our 1st choice midfield

      Nice Reeney, really constructive, at least John has the guts to tell me his opinion. I would love to meet you one day, and have a chat etc. Perhaps you can grow a spine in the meantime?

    Well I guess it wasn’t 4-4-2 then. I just wish that we could sort out the midfield tactics. And why couldn’t Wilshere and Ramsey play together in the 4-4-2??? From what I have seen in the meaningful matches, Wilshere runs as much as anyone and Ramsey seems to have that side to his game as well. Wilshere can tackle even though he puts some bad ones in at times, and when Ramsey first came into the squad he could realllllllly tackle. That side of his game might disappear though because of his injury. If we did that though that would mean no Song. What would be best is that it’s Song with Wilshere and Ramsey in the 4-3-3. I’m assuming of course that Nasri is out of the equation entirely along with Fabregas, at least for now. I don’t see how we can qualify for the Champions League if we play Chamakh against Udinese. I’d rather see Arshavin played as the lone striker than see him up there!!!! I’m being serious here!!! He’s been deplorable for months on end!!! Give Afobe a chance!!! I’m saying this of course because Van Persie is suspended for the first leg…it might be too late by the time he comes back for the 2nd leg…

      Milo I don’t think wilshere or Ramsey are quite as disciplined as song so not sure they can fill the 2 midfield places,both are technically brilliant but not so great off the ball..just because they run it doesn’t nessacarily mean they r making the correct runs…also I reckon gervinho or even Walcott wud b the better option up front over arshavin and chamakh

    Shane is right we played 4-2-3-1.
    Initially Song was with Ramsey, however after 30 minutes Arsene Wenger instructed him to move forward and Rosicky replaced him.
    Unfortunately Rosicky showed the same lack of commitment to defend. The result was that we ended playing 4-1-4-1.

    The second half was even worst, with Ramsey reinstated back in the defensive duty with Frimpong. That gave the issues that again Boca Junior.
    I must have seen a different game, Gibbs was good going forward but abysmal defensively. A lot of his last ditch tackle were due to his original poor positioning.
    Also he is very bad in a 1 v 1situation. The first goal conceded was due to him.
    However that first goal could still have been avoided if the midfield had been doing his job.
    The second goal is on Squillacci, however we should never have been in the situation of 3 defenders v 4 attackers.

    “But Sagna’s a full back right?”

    Yes – but it’s a pre-season friendly. For all we know, Wenger wanted to see how the team would deal with Sagna taking extra risks, so asked him not to track back as much. I’m not saying that there’s definitely a reason, maybe Sagna just didn’t track back, but I don’t like to criticise when I don’t have all the facts.

    Arshavin got a lot of criticism last year for ‘not tracking back’, but it went on consistently for months – the conclusion was obviously that either Arshavin was disobeying Wenger’s instructions and failing to track back, and yet still keeping his place – unlikely – or that Wenger was actually happy with Arshavin doing what he was doing.

    It was clear that Wenger initially indulged Arshavin but he finally snapped when he saw the effect of his attitude on the rest of the team.

    Toward the end of the season Arshavin did not start any of the difficult game: Chelsea…

    It was then clear that Arshavin started to track back.

    If Wenger didn’t want Sagna to track back or work his ass off defensively, then there is something wrong. Very wrong. Even if it’s only pre-season. I might be relatively young, but I’m from the old school when it comes to football and sports in general. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!! Hello, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!! Why didn’t Jenkinson start if he didn’t want to risk injury with Sagna??? It doesn’t matter anyways because none of the goals against us came from him not tracking back, but to play and not play to win is a big problem if it actually occured!!!!

      In Arsenal we have several good players and you will have to go past all to score a goal. Sagna can’t give 100% every times he runs. He is only human and can’t track back very time. However I don’t believe Wenger told Sagna to not track back for once! That is crazy. And who said the winger can’t track back too and help defend when he sees that sagna is out of position? I don’t believe we can use our full backs as attacking option all the time. Our defence is too weak right now and the team still don’t know how to defend. It’s unbelievable how some players is aloud to expose the defence.

      I will give Lansbury the option to play in the wings every time ahead of Ryo. I just can’t believe how he can be rated that high when he is not performing at Arsenal.

      lansbury > ryo ? I just can’t believe how people like you can say lansbury is a better option than ryo. I agree that Ryo may not be ready for the first team and probably need to be loaned on a PL team to bulk up and adapt himself to EPL game. But why lansbury deserves more a place than ryo ? Just because he played for Arsenal Reserve ? Ok he has a good physique. This is a decent player but with nothing special. He played in low level league (championship and reserves) so he doesn’t prove anything yet. I prefer develop a amazing young talent than lost time with a player that i know he will never make it.

    I wonder if Wenger is regretting not signing Van Der Vaart last season. Alledgely we had first refusal according to RVP but he choose to bring through Wilshere. But now with Cesc and Narsi halfway out the door this in hindsight looks like the wrong decision. The team look jaded and luckluste in preseason – Please buy someone soon Arsene I’m starting to get sick of checking newsnow for an update. Make your decision already it’s time to sh*t or get off the pot Arsene.

    Ryo in the German League because it is tougher than the Dutch one!?..The guy is still young. Is happy at Feyenoord and to suggest that the German League is much stronger than the Dutch one is speculative at least. How many German players are playing or have played in the Premier league, Primera Liga or La Liga compared to Dutch players?..three times as many Dutch players for those who care to do the research… Guess the Dutch academies and Eredivisie teams do much better than the German clubs in producing international football talent.
    Bendtner did not cut it at Arsenal did he?!..Ot Ballack at Chelsea.Let Ryo stay at Feyenoord for another year. Better for him and better for Arsenal (and Feyenoord for sure).
