J.Hoyte: Why Would Anybody Want To Leave Arsenal?

In the last 24 hours Arsène Wenger has rebuffed claims he has received offers for right-back Justin Hoyte, just days after Middlesbrough appeared to register an interest in taking the England Under 21 international to the Riverside.

Last week during the club’s photo-shoot ahead of the new season, Justin was quizzed on why he has been so loyal to the Gunners, despite interest from other sides, and his lack of first team chances.

“I just want to play for Arsenal, the club is fantastic, we’ve got a great manager in Arsène Wenger, and It’s just a great atmosphere. The fans are fantastic whatever we are going through, It’s a great club to be at.

“Why would anybody want to go anywhere else?, i know there is a lot of speculation, but you can see the way we play together.”

Hoyte played 90 minutes for the first team yesterday evening – in front of watching Boro’ scout David Mills – but has found his opportunities severely restricted for Wenger’s side, so much so he made a handful of Reserve team appearances.

Following Luke Young’s sale to Aston Villa, the last 72 hours have seen various claims from reports in the North East of England, with the Middlesbrough Gazette suggesting on Friday a transfer should be completed inside 72 hours.

I was asked to give my opinion on Justin for Boro’ Mania over the weekend, with the general feeling on their part feeling Hoyte would be a perfect addition to the club. Although Arsenal seem to have other ideas.

yeh i think he should move on just for himself because his career is really stagnating, and hopefully it will provide more opportunitys for other arsenal youngsters anyway

Nobody would ever pay 5m for him. Send him there on loan with a view to a permanent move. that way if he improves enough we can just keep him or we will get more offers.

I think we should go for Micah Richards, he can play CB, RB and DM, although i doubt we will go for him unless Gallas is sold (probably next year)

Hi J. This is a bit off topic but what do you think about the rumours linking Giovinco, Inler and Annan to the club, surely all great signings especially Giovinco.

gooner2009…..the site started off on a reserve/youth basis, but got too involved in first team matters over the summer. Fans now come on here talking about the first team all the time, instead of going to other AFC sites that cover the club as a whole.

g4eva – Giovinco is a brilliant young talent, but i wouldn’t expect him to leave Juve yet.

gooner2009 – Its a Reserves blog, when i touch on first-team matters its to do with youth players e.g. Amsterdam Tournament report.

It’s my blog, and i personally was involved in speaking to another website i brought that to attention. Hoyte is a youth team product who has played in the Reserves.

I think over the summer there were almost no news from the youth so this site (both J and the readers) got involved with the Nasri saga and other stories. J has never published interviews with Kolo Toure or other players that have nothing to do with the youth team, except if they are praising a young player. I, personally, think that it doesn´t matter if there are articles about other things than the youth team. What is really important is the quantity and quality of the reports about the youth and the reserves that J provides us with. Other articles can just be viewed as an addition.

But about Hoyte. I wished everybody at the club were as loyal as him but now he has to think about himself. His career is going nowhere and he is a way to good of a player to be on the bench (if he makes the bench) all the time. I say he should jump on the opportunity to go to Boro and hopefully he will score against Man Utd in the future.

He’s okay as a squad player, but what happens if we let him go? Sagna will never get a rest as there is no one else to cover unless Eboue is going back to right back? Unfortunately it does sound as if Arsene is willing to let him go because he said no concrete offers ‘yet’, which implies they are expecting an offer. If not, why not just say he is not for sale?

i don’t know why every one keeps hatting on J Hoyte, ye he aint the best player in the world but his a good so squad player, he can still improve and he is loyal so if he did become really good he wont leave for 5 grand more, Every one needs to stop being so negative, something special is happening at ARSENAL and when every thing just clicks into place we are gonna dominate.

I think justins loyalty is superb and he is far better than he is given credit for when he got a run in the team at sunderland he was impressive plus i think in the 06/07 season he played over 30 games and didn’t let us down. Plus who would we get in to replace him as i doubt a experienced international right back would be happy to be a bit part player behind sagna

Unfortunately, I have to agree, to further his career he may well need to leave but if he stays he may well get that chance sooner or later, and who knows what that may lead to ? He has to make that decision, but if he decides to stay then lets all hope he can step up to that level that AW wants him to achieve. He is a true gooner so he deserves that bit of luck.

I like Justin Hoyte’s attitude & commitment, and I think that he’s competent enough by current professional football standards in England to earn a living as a first choice full back at some premier league club.

But by the standard of play & technical ability that Arsene has introduced at Arsenal, Hoyte falls short of being the first choice rightback for the first team.

I think we can all see that there is a quantum gap in quality between Hoyte & Sagna, which Hoyte, with the best will in the world and even a run in the team, simply isn’t going to bridge anytime soon.

At the same time, Hoyte is a Londoner, his family & friends are all based there, and Arsenal are his club. It’d be a wrench to leave one of the greatest cities on earth to play in the footballing equivalent of Smallville!

It’s quite reasonable for someone in his position with his limited ability to be asking themseleves “why would anyone in their right mind want to leave Arsenal?” Hoyte isn’t stupid…he is no doubt fully aware that a move to another premier league club – i.e. one in the midtable area – would effectively mean demotion for him.

Yes, he might get to play week in, week out, but he can probably say goodbye to occasional run outs in the champions league, reaching the latter stages of the carling cup and most certainly to any chances of winning silverware in the remaining years of his career.

But on the other hand, the clock is ticking, and Hoyte isn’t getting any younger…before he knows it, his career will be over, and he probably wants more game time in the remaining period of his career then he’s been getting in recent years.

I think Arsene appreciates that Hoyte needs to play regularly at his age, but is happy to keep him on as a decent & somewhat ‘experienced’ squad player if Hoyte is content to tolerate his current situation.

Justin Hoyte faces a real dilemma. If he asked to leave, or a suitable concrete offer came in for him from another club, I doubt that Arsene would stand in Hoyte’s way.

If Hoyte did leave, I suspect Arsene would use Eboue & Djourou as cover for the rightback position until further notice. Ramsey can also do a job there in the short term if need be.

justin is a good back-up player with the perfect commitment i think hold onto him and if he decides to go we let him but for now we keep what we have. competition will bring the best out of players and we need some depth.

giovinco would be class and anann would add depth we know we need inler for the DM role.

Although he is arsenal through & through the fact remains that at 24(not sure if thats correct) Justin is fast becoming one of the “experienced” players here. When you think of it, it is odd for a 24yr old at arsenal to still be a fringe player at best. Considering that he’s been here his whole career there isnt much he has done nor has he made a position his own.
However, as long as he is here I will cheer him on ’cause he always try his hardest.
Maybe Wenger is afraid to let him go incase he suddenly reaches his peak and we lose out. Whatever the case, Good Luck to J.

hoyte is typical example of youth policy gone wrong. as wenger say ‘average players want to stay and good players only think of leaving’. hoyte just taking place of better players out there. i say hoyte run, if can call it run, and he slower my grandmum. arsene too much nanny now.

Why would you want to get rid of a loyal squadplayer like Hoyte, who still is very young? If he is happy being that squadplayer and fight for his place then I see no reason to sell him. In 4-5 years he could be on the top of his career and i would much rather see him breaking in to an arsenal side then flourish somewhere else…

wenger must rate hoyte because he believe hoyte would provide good back up and competition to sagna. wenger don’t usually keep a player if he really rubbish. to be fair, hoyte don’t always get to play with proper 1st eleven. if he play alongside toure, gallas, clichy, fabregas…i’m sure he’ll show more ability than most people think he could. sometimes, play with great teammates can help you rise your game. but anyway, i just can’t stand people ask him to go when nowadays its so hard to find a ‘fringe’ player that realized his role in a team and more importantly keep professional attitude, train hard, never complaint and give 100% when ask to play. can you imagine if diarra in hoyte place? after 6 months wenger would have to sell him and we don’t have back up anymore (i assume eboue never was a rb).

Why does he need to be sold ASAP???? If he isnt in Arsen’s plans he wont play him. As its been stated I would rather have Hoyte – loyal, average young back up player than a neusance, very unloyal, moaner very good squad player! The key is he is a squad player!!!
I think we should have kept Diarra he could have payed RB at the end of last season so Toure could have played CB instead of Senderos, who knows what could have happened!! plus we wouldnt need a DCM right now!! Totaly wrong attitude though so I understand why Wenger let him go. He would have achieved a lot with us if he had more patience! So would have Bentley

    Listen mate.

I don’t give a monkeys anus about his attitude, he does more harm than good when hes on the pitch.

You guys give Eboue ans Senderos loads of stick yet defend this guy.

Classic double standards when it comes to english players.

Is Hoyte the only player needing games at his age? What of Senderos? He’s 23 as Hoyte and he’s not playing regularly because he’s not good enough. If Hoyte should be sold then Senderos must also be moved on. Granted that Senderos get more games than Hoyte but the fact remains that Senderos has caused Arsenal more harm than Hoyte. Both of them have no future in the club.
