Loanees – Pedro & Nordtveit Impress In Salamanca Win

UD Salamanca wrapped up their pre-season preparations yesterday evening with a 2-0 win over Spanish minnows UD Mérida, with strikes from Mikel Dañobeitia and Pablo Carmona adding up to a confidence boosting victory.

The Segunda season begins next Sunday with the Union facing a home game against Alaves, but the remaining friendly gave new coach David Armaral the opportunity to study some of the younger members of his side, with Pedro Botelho and Håvard Nordtveit making starts.

A small crowd had gathered to watch the fixture, who were treated to some what of a show from Arsenal’s link club, with the stylish outfit playing neat football at a high intensity. All that remained to cap of the performance was goals, with the first arriving via a solo effort by Mikel Dañobeitia.

A shocking pitch combined with a solid defensive mentality saw Salamanca’s attempts to double the lead rebuffed as the game drew to a close, with a series of substitution’s also ruining the previous flow.

However, the win was sealed in the second half as Pedro’s low corner caused havoc in the Mérida back-line, allowing Pablo Carmona the chance to capitalize and slot home the second – abet with a little help from the goalkeeper.

The pair both completed the 90 minutes and are in contention to start at the weekend, especially Botelho after his assist.

ahassan – Prefer him at the back, he doesn’t quite have the power to dominate the midfield.
