Mérida Primed For Second Real Sociedad Loan Spell

Arsenal’s flamboyant Spanish play-maker Fran Mérida will join Real Sociedad on loan tomorrow as long as Arsène Wenger sanctions the conditions of the transfer.

Mérida’s agent Joseba Diaz – who also represents defender Ignasi Miquel – claims he has held positive meetings with Sociedad president Iñaki Badiola, who is keen for Fran to return to his home-land and help spear-head Real’s promotion back to La Liga.

“The agreement with Real and the player himself with Arsenal is total, “We only need Arsene Wenger, he is the head of it all, to give the go-ahead to Fran’s departure.

“Arsenal and their own scout Francis Cagigao look very favourably at the operation.”

Fran played an hour for Arsenal’s Reserves on Tuesday evening in a friendly, as looked like he had taken a lot from his time with the Basque outfit. The majority of fans believe the Spaniard should stay and fight for his place in London, but the management appears to have other ideas.

Should Wenger give his blessings for the deal, Diaz claims he will travel to Spain to wrap up the deal (Medical) as the contract is also agreed.

“I think this issue cannot be expected to last longer than tomorrow. We have to solve it this week. I hope to be given the go-ahead by Wenger in the next few hours but I cannot assure you of this because it is something that does not depend on me.”

“What depends on me is negotiating Fran’s contract and this is already done.”

The Spanish Under 19 International signed a new four year deal with the club before the end of the season, but Sociedad want the Gunners to allow the chance to sign him for around £3 million should they gain promotion.

One key principle to any transfer would be manager Juanma Lillo, he made Fran the key part of his side towards the end of the season but is reported to be set for a move to Barcelona as number two to Pep Guardiola.

Best of luck to the kid, would have loved to have him here for the new campaign as chris mentioned.

You can see with the injuries the first-team are having how he would have got at least a chance.

It’s crazy, he’s older, more experienced and possibly more talented than Ramsey, yet he’s the one going to a lower division side while Ramsey plays in the CL!

I’m glad he’s gonna go get the experience, hopefully will have the impact Bendtner did last season after returning from loan, or Vela will have this season, all would be 19. Just we really need CMs right now and he’s actually our fourth oldest and experienced!

Happy and down about this. Happy because he’ll get much more playing time and he’ll get even better with that experience. Just wish that we could get to see him play next season for the first team. But like Kent Paul said we wouldn’t have much space in the team this season. This is going to be like the Carlos Vela situation. At least we don’t have to worry about his Visa. GOOD LUCK FRAN!

Its rare to see a simple. straight forward and humble agents such as that of Frans..good one though. Or who knows if its cause fran is yet to be a box office demand. Don’t think that of Adebayor ever said a word before he scored 30 goals right ??

Samuel – That’s a very interesting point you raise about the experience, as long as Fran comes back here a better play i really don’t mind what happens.

Sociedad want a chance to sign him on a permanent deal? What a joke. Probably nothing more than speculation.

Noo…………Merida is gonna be world class in the future. Why not allow him one more season of loan…just to a Premiership club instead. Sociedad didn’t achieve promotion so he’ll be playing the 2nd division.
I’m sure he wants to catch up to the likes of Ignaio Camacho…who is the same quality as him.
Truth be told, he could play in our first team no problem. Sucks that he missed out on preseason. Get him to a Premiership club on a season loan deal.

Why would we sell him to Sociedad for less than we had to pay on his behalf to Barcelona? Arsene was full of praise about him last season, so I cannot see why he would let him go permanently.

If the club lets Fran go on loan again questions should be asked! He is better than Randall and Diaby and we have a bit of an injury crisis.Randall cant pass the ball from A to B and Diaby cant play for more than 45 mins without getting injured. One more injury and Pat Rice,Steve Bould and Liam Brady will have to play.

There won’t be a permanent deal involved, no way, especially considering we’re probably going to have to pay around that for him anyway, there’d be no point.

He’ll return next year and fight seriously, without question.

I would have liked him to stay and get some carlin cup experiance, but i recon a loan move to Salamanca would also be beneficial and it’ll be interesting to see how well he links up with Pedro seeing as they could well end up team mates for us in the not too distant future.

Why don´t they try to buy Vela, Nordveit and Walcott while they are at it. What a fucking joke this permanent deal is. Either Sociedad are mentally wrong or Setanta are just making stuff up.

I can´t wait for this transfer window to be closed because there are too many questions still to be answered. Like for example: Why did Nordveit not play in the pre-season while Hoyte and Thomas did? Will he be loaned out? That doesn´t make sense as Wenger said he would be involved with the first team and play more than CC.

not a chance wenger will let go merida. i seriously think merida involvement with spain u19 somehow get in his way to be in first team this season. while everyone else do pre season, merida away on holiday. and at the same time there is vacancy in arsenal midfield. i bet merida would be ahead of randall, landsbury and even ramsey. but since he just trained for 10 days and the season will start today, he short of fitness and because he didn’t features in any first team game, so the boss think merida too late to be involved with first team and decided he should play first team somewhere else. it’s such a shame because i really think he more ready than ramsey.

i think it would have been better loaning him to a championship team like Qpr…Or Even west Brom…he needs to get used to the english game…..wenger alreadi knos that he is techniqually guifted so theres no reson for him to go spain

Crazy. The managers gone on record as he doesn’t want to buy players if it blocks the progress of the youngsters. Well he bought Ramsey and he is blocking Meridas progress if he’s loaned out. Also why the fuck should that 2 bob Spanish outfit dictate to us who they want on loan and expect to buy for 3m if they gian promotion. Someone at the Arsenal should tell the cunts to fuck off.

Surely Merida could do wonders for a club like Stoke or Hull? (or teams like Valladolid or Osasuna in La Liga)

The U-19 European Championships didn’t help because he wasn’t there for pre-season and he’d probably be ahead of Wilshere, Randall etc if he had the chance to take part in pre-season.

As a massive Real Sociedad fan i think its brilliant Merida is set for a 2nd loan stint but i understand why Arsenal fans are annoyed by it. If he does shine though and we get promoted i can’t see Arsenal selling him for 3 million.
