Hoyte, Thomas & Frimpong Set For Captain Roles

Gavin Hoyte, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Emmanuel Frimpong have all been singled out for their leadership qualities, and the trio will put them to good use in the coming campaign as they will get the opportunity to lead the Reserves and Youth Teams.

Athletic central defender Gavin Hoyte will skipper Neil Banfield’s Reserves this term, whilst midfielders Jay Thomas and Emmanuel Frimpong will share the responsibility of being captain of Steve Bould’s Under 18’s.

Hoyte led the Gunners during the 5-1 win over Worthing FC on Thursday, and was confirmed as captain yesterday after playing 90 minutes against Chelsea Reserves. Neil often hands the armband to English lads and players who are known to support to the club, and Gav’ follows a tradition which has seen Jay Simpson and Matthew Connolly lead the second string on successful runs.

Banfield admits the 18-year-old’s maturity with the first team has influenced his decision.

“Gavin has had a really good pre-season, he has worked extremely hard. He got selected for the first-team training camp in Austria and I think he deserves to lead the Reserve team this year.”

Jay Thomas led the Under 18’s to the Academy League Group A title last year, and he will continue in that role this term. However, as Jay looks to kick on into the Reserves, Emmanuel Frimpong will take over as vice-captain, also a position he occupied at times last year.

The three boys will all hope to pull together and help the young Gunners around them to develop, whilst proving how the trio are all highly regarded at the club.

To me Jay Thomas seems very gifted both technically and physically but seems very lethargical on the pitch, looks like he could nod off at any minute!

“But again, it’s not just Jack. He’s just one of about six, seven or eight players who I believe has a big chance over the next three or four years. So it’s looking really healthy at the minute.

Steve Bould talking about the academy.

Surely these players are: Wilshere, Randall, Lansbury, Gibbs, Afobe, Watt, Frimpong.. anyone ive forgotten?

And I diden’t mention barazite merida etc since they diden’t coem trough the academy..

read an interesting article in the observer the other day, was wondering what all of you think about the theories behind arsenal’s academy (in that its role at the club is to produce talent for sale in order to bankroll the purchase of talented foreign youngsters). Ive only just started getting into reading up on the youth teams (largely due to this site, having found it one of the only bastions of intelligent discourse in the convaluted land of arsenal blogs) so was wondering whether you j. or anyone else who knows much about the academy thought about it. heres the link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/aug/31/arsenal

Frimpong looks like he could potentially be a great CDM in a year or 2. Hes got the sort of powerful look of some1 like Essien.

A close friend of the blog has connections with Fenerbache his former club, and they said Appiah will probably never play again because his knees are that bad.

So we’ll be in administration with in 3 weeks then…

Frimpong and Thomas stand out for their leadership. Hoyte not so much for me but thinking about it hes not a bad choice either. Three very promising players.

jabba thanks for that article mate very good read although the board say there is money its obvious there isn’t the board said arsene could spend 30 mill on one player but that is bullshit as if the player is purchased for say 15 mill you have got to also add his wages to that no other manager in the EPL could do what wenger has done with the budget available to him im just hoping wenger is saving the cash and offload adebayor cash next year for Benzema this kid is a future star and if there is one player in the world you could splash out on it should be him

Doesnt really make sense cuz Adebayor is a target man where as Benzema definatly isnt. Sell Adebayor and we’ll only have Bendtner as a possible front man in a 4-5-1 formation and he wont be ready for that for another 2 season in my opinion.
