Arsenal Youngster Rejects Deadline Move To Salamanca

An Arsenal Reserve team player rejected a deadline day transfer to Spanish link club UD Salamanca yesterday evening, with the unnamed starlet preferring to continue his footballing education in London.

Local Salamanca newspaper ‘The Advancement’ reports that Union manager David Amaral had agreed the loan of an English player, but he rebuffed the opportunity to join Pedro Botelho and Håvard Nordtveit in Spain.

This news broke after UDS faxed Arsenal on Monday asking if they had managed to secure the signature of a mystery non E.U prospect, but were informed that they had failed to sign the required player, but were offered another member of the Reserve team, believed to have been Henri Lansbury.

The paper also confirmed that they remain hopeful of taking a South American on loan in January, giving the Gunners an extra four months to track the potential new recruit. Should this objective once more not be achieved, the option of another second string youngster will be made available again.

Richard Law – Arsenal’s South American Chief – has been working hard with both parties, and Salamanca have requested either a goalkeeper or a striker.

I think it would be a great idea to send an englishman too Spain. I think it will mature them to much higher level, because they have to be without their every day friends and family, and seek the challenge of settling in a foreign country. And they will have to take a lot of steps, and they will come home as adults.

Whoever turned down that opportunity is a mug, for the technical aspects of their game it would have been better than playing reserves, in the championship, or sitting on our bench. It shows a lack of steel, determination and courage, as I’m sure this player is not playing for the first team.

Henri Lansbury wasn’t in the squad yesterday, so i suppose he was in negotiations with UDS.

I dont want to sound like i am attacking English players but why do they find it very hard to move to other countries to play football…I think which ever that player was really didnt think it through or feared the challenge

Shame really because whoever it was probably would have benefited a great deal from the opportunity to mature as an individual as well as a player. But, it doesn’t really surprise me because I’ve noticed that when the young English players are interviewed they do not come across as very articulate and confident compared to the young foreign players. This could have been a great opportunity because they would be with 2 of their Arsenal team mates (one of whom speaks excellent English), so it would not have been as difficult as being sent abroad on your own.

This shows the problem with English football and footballers.

An opportunity to broaden your horizons, gain some experience, even learn another language, turned down to stay in London. I bet he was thinking of his mates.

How many English footballers ply their trade on the continent? Look how far Kazim Richards got, and where he would be if he had chosen to stay in England. This is really hard to believe, what a lack of balls.

You can’t entirely blame the English footballers.
England is a fantastic place to play football and of course being English, they would’ve preferred to stay in England rather than going abroad for first team football.
Having said that, ya, English footballers can benefit a lot by playing abroad, but at an age of Lansbury’s, it’s probably too young I guess to play abroad, even for one season.

Im fairly certain it was Lansbury

But more important, who were we trying to sign and then loan to them? Is it one of those 2 Brazilian strikers we have been linked with? Can anyone shed light on that?

This is exactly the problem with English players – refusing to move out of their comfort zones. No wonder England achieves nothing on the world stage.

Very much so Chris, as mentioned above the fact he would be away from his family and friends would allow him to concentrate more and develop his game.

Sorry Jamie mate,, In this time, i was too busy to manage my Indonesian Arseblog since i’ve got lot of projects from my boss, and hell of homework from my instructor. I will continue this blog as soon i finish my work, okay??

btw, even England IS a fantastic place to play football, i think it’s ridiculous to reject a chance to play as a first team player. We have some experienced about kind of player like this (Bentley, Sidwell, J.Thomas, blablabla..).

When they had a chance to feel the excitement of being a first team member, they reject it and told the press that Arsenal didnt give them a chance to play. That was sucks to hear it. Hope it wont happen again next time.

Hold on. Salamanca would prefer a goalkeeper or striker? So what? Since when does our feeder club dictate our non-EU-youngsters transfer policy? We should be telling THEM what is happening.

bit harsh to be getting at lansbury if it was him who turned it down. He is only 17 and would mean moving away from friends and family to a country where he prob doesn’t even know the language. Also he has only played a handfull of games since he came back from illness so would putting him in first team football be a great idea anyway.

Foreign youngsters are willing to move to England, away from their friends, family, language and culture, to improve their chances for success. In my opinion there is no good reason why English youngsters shouldn’t do the same.

crafty bison – We have an agreement with them. So we send them a defender when they have loads, it helps nobody? he sits on the bench for two years.

Steven Appiah is doubtful to play again, the company that owns his right said this a few months ago.

in December 2007, Stephen discovered the reason why: After a series of tests by Turkish and Italian doctors, it was confirmed that Stephen had not in fact been suffering from asthma as the club had diagnosed, but rather he had developed blood clots in his left leg after his surgery, which later developed into micro embolisms.

“The club had therefore misdiagnosed his condition.

“Stephen was extremely concerned to learn that the misdiagnosis and mistreatment of his injury had led to a potentially career threatening, not to mention life threatening, condition.

Appiah has said he is fully fit again and looking for a club. I can’t see Arsenal taking him though. There is obviously something wrong with him physically if he feels the need to post an advertisement on his own personal website saying “Hey, I’m available!”

Bloody hell, we won’t even spend that on a transfer, let alone a weekly wage. Robinho’s gonna be pissed on his measly 160,000 a week. Here at Arsenal we know how to treat our crocks right ;)

man we’re gonna have so many centre back the same age, nortveit, hoyte, bartley, cruise, ayling. which out of these JS do you think will have the best chance of making it at arsenal.

Nordtveit will probably be the only centre back out of all of those who will make it. At least that’s my opinion. I don’t think Hoyte will make it but the others have a chance.

Look at left back, next year we’re gonna have Traore, Pedro and Gibbs as well as Clichy. The thing is, none of them (apart from Clichy) are actually that great at defending and even Clichy’s defending isn’t great at times. Traore may move to left wing though, same for Gibbs and Gibbs may actually be loaned out.

Appiah is in the Ghana squad and supposedly fit to play Libya come friday. not seen this thing about a micro embolisms anywhere. the bbc reports he’s fully recovered. think he’d be great if he can get back into shape again.

who’s the non-eu players where going to take on though?
