Arsenal Finally Announce Pedro Botelho Signing + Video

It may have been 14 months late, but Arsenal have announced the arrival of Brazilian wing-back Pedro Botelho, with the 18-year-old now finally being recognised by club.

Interestingly Pedro’s profile may have been added to the Reserves section of the official website Arsenal.com, but the URL clearly says ‘First Team’, meaning he looks likely to be a first-team player on his return to London.

However, they failed to explain the reasons behind why he is at Salamanca, and did not list the official date he joined – in the same manner of the Carlos Vela deal.

Pedro put in a Man Of The Match performance against Alavés on Sunday afternoon, but is expected to be rested for tonight’s Cup game – with the League taking a priority for the Union. To celebrate his outstanding start to the campaign and the fact he has now been added to the website despite many still not believing the fact that Arsenal had signed the player, Young Guns offers you the chance to watch the best action from Sunday’s 0-0 draw.

The short video features…

* Pedro taking a short free kick, cutting inside and smashing an effort over.
* Some defensive work, a skill, and then recovery tackle
* A 25 yard left footed volley that hits the bar.

Yeah, it looks like he’ll go straight to the first team when he returns, under former clubs it says Salamanca (loan)… with loan in brackets….

J, how long does he have to stay in spain to qualify for a work permit? 2 years?

It is normally two years, but we will have to see. It might be longer, but the fact we’ve added his profile is promising.

The first team needs more numbers, just not in the full back positions

It’s logical why his joining date is 1st January 2008. Brazilian players can only leave for Portugal before they turn 18. Pedro turned 18 in December 2007, meaning the first transfer window he could join the club officially was January 2008. Remember how he couldn’t play for months after he joined because of this reason.

velahattrick, that is rubbish. there is nothing about that anywhere. he is talking to WHU though. if he signs for them and turns out to be fantastic it’ll be another one that got away.

Bothelo looks good. I like the fact he is big and strong and not afraid to take people on and shoot too. typical wenger full back, likes going forward but maybe needs to learn the art of defence a bit more.

Jawbreaker – I don’t really want to change the skin mate, all the codes set up, the banner, and pictures are all created with the skin in mind.

The only thing i can suggest, is if you copy and paste the articles into word or something to read them, or paste them into the comment box, then it will appear in a dark grey.

so how good really this pedro? compare to current first team, where he stand? can he displace traore as 2nd choice left back? or he almost as good as clichy? anyone know?

Traore is a winger, not a defender anymore. So that leaves Gibbs and Clichy. I prefer Pedro on the wing because of his speed and skills, but i think the boss will play him left back.

Also seeing as though curbishly has quit then i donn’t really see them having a big chance signing him as they don’t have a manager!

Hes been beefing up alot over the last season so that a good thing. Looks like hes much better going forward than defending atm but hes still young. Full backs usually take time to develope, its not so easy to stick em in at 18 and expect them to perform as it is for mids and strikers.

Vid didnt really show much (not that im complaining), but i watched the second half of that game and he looked comfortable whilst not really blowing me away, there again i wasnt really expecting him to, and he had a few stand out moments. Great pace, very skillfull and great work rate aswell which is vital for potential full backs in terms of our playing style.

    Any news on Appiah guys?

On skysports.com he is linked with us and in the telegraph. There is also a link on a less reputable site we have offered him 35000 a week.

Surely a no lose situation and he just what we need…

“and did not list the official date he joined ”

The website states he joined at 18 years old. Any other version of the story would be against FIFA ruls.

I hope this guy is a Brazilian superstar in the making…like Angel di Maria.

Botelho…he’s tall, quick, and skillfull. Hope gets selected for Brazil U20 team so we can see more about him. Is he better than Fabio of ManU?

can he play DM?. He has the qualities needed height, stength, defensivly minded but has the technique to join up with the attacks when needed, not short of goals himself and would give the midfield balance
    Imagine Rosiky–Pedro Botelho–Fabregas–Nasri

to the above commenter, don’t be stupid. Clichy won’t be playing every single match for us, he does need to rest, idiot. Pedro looks very much better than Traore. Pedro will be a good understudy and who knows, might eventually become our first choice leftback in time.

I don’t think Pedro could ever be a DM. He’s not physically robust. His balance is too poor. And he can’t really tackle.

with all due respect you are a little behind with the news, Pedro is listed in the AFC Handbook as being one of the players that is out on loan. The Handbook has been available since the first home game of the season !!

Note that not everyone has the handbook you’re talking about, dude. A lot of fans depend on Arsenal.com for the latest news. You can say J is a little behind with the news but it’s understandable.
