Exclusive – Hoyte Replaces Gallas In Arsenal Starting XI

Arsenal Reserve team captain Gavin Hoyte will make his Premiership debut tomorrow afternoon, as Arsène Wenger takes his struggling outfit to Manchester City.

The news comes after first team skipper William Gallas was reportedly stripped of the armband following his arrival from International duty with France. Fellow Reserve team players Henri Lansbury and Jay Simpson will take up places on the bench, as injuries take hold.

Emmanuel Adebayor joins Gallas in being absent, as Wenger puts his faith in some of the fearless Carling Cup youngsters.

Follow all the build up ahead of tomorrow’s clash over at Gooner Talk.

Great for Gavin, but surely there are enough fit first team defenders still in front of him the pecking order?
I know Kolo and Sagna are out, but that still leaves Clichy, Silvestre, Song & Djourou, even taking into account your supposition that Gallas is being left out. This would be a rash decision in my opinion.

A little bit perspective is needed. Do you guys honestly think Hoyte is good enough to go against likes of Robinho, heck even SWP or Ireland? Absolute disgrace if this happens. I know a talent when I see one. Hoyte does possess talent, but not enough to stop the best LM in PL this season – Robinho.

i’d love to see Hoyte start 2mora, but jst think Wenger would play Song at RB. Hoyte is a promising young talent n is better than Justin his older brother, but this is too big of a game for him to start agaisn’t the likes of Robinho n Wright Phillips

Gallas is the only defender who gives a shit about us winning, and defending as a team. People are of course swayed by Sky’s so-called pundits, and MOTD’s so-called specialists. Bullcrap if we are to snub our best defender!

I know he is hated and all that. But that shouldn’t stop him from playing. If this is Wenger’s decision – It’s a blunder. IF Gallas has volunteered to not travel – then it’s fine, there is no other choice.

All said, our players are so arrogant, and not organized. They get paid a lot, and spoilt a lot by ARsene. That is all I’d say. Not in defence of Gallas, but I can understand the frustration. He shouldn’t have gone public though…

Correct decision on Gallas, should have happened months ago. The squad needs to be improved with a couple of players in their prime ie 27/28 years old. New keeper, centre half and ball winning midfielder are priorities. Arsene knows? Or needs to be told?

Based on the evidence of his sub appearence last week, I would say that Ade is not fit yet and was rushed back too soon. Does anyone know if he played for Togo in the week?

RE: Hoyte v Robinho… I too think he will struggle. However if it was Wenger who took the captaincy from Gallas and also dropped him, then personally I would accept a bad result tommorow for the future good of our club. Wenger needed to be strong in this situation and if what we are hearing tonight is true, then I think he has done the right thing.

HAL, you make alot of good points, i hate the media so much, they never give 2 sides analysis about Arsenal.

Look at our reserve performance after the CC S Utd match, with some young players think they have the divine right to something. Also Wenger was once he was asked he rotates which reserves players that he puts on the bench & he replied its bcuz he doesnt want to give them too much too soon otherwise the stop practising after training.

Also looking at the last’s CC graduates, Denilson, Bendtner, Diaby need to give more when we dont the ball. As for RVP he attitude and temper needs to improve big time & he to must work harder off the ball for the team. Gallas is not the best captain ever but he makes alot truthful points if only others had his committment.

BooMeR, I see where you coming from. Gallas has actually done alright in the last couple of games. He was excellent against Man U and I thought he was unfairly criticised about the second Villa goal. However, I just think Wenger had to really lay down the law this time for the good of the club.

Gallas is a nightmare and had to be dropped, we are the arsenal not the gallas show. Things at our club have always been sorted in house to ensure that we dont look like a tin pot outfit like the spuds with in house issues aired in the public domain.

This will allow Djourou (yet to conceed) to come in to the team and sort our defence out…even if we lose tomorrow, this is a blessing in disguise

Not surprised, he’s done well in the Carling Cup. But I’m sure Adebayor will be in the squad as he came on as sub last week. If this Gallas thing is true (not saying it isn’t, its just that SkySports announced it after the runours on the internet)

My guess of the team would be:

    Almunia

    Hoyte
    Djourou
    Silvestre
    Clichy

    Diaby
    Denilson
    Song
    Nasri

    RVP
    Ade

Subs: Fabianski, Ramsey, Vela, Bendtner, Wilshere, Gibbs, Simpson

I would have played Ramsey ahead of Song but that may change, seeing as our defence is younger

Think Gallas had to be stripped of captaincy. He embarrased our football club. I understand his comments but publicising them was wrong.

Gallas and Fabregas are our two best players, the two that have acheived more than most. Theyre hurting more than anyone and thats all due to Wenger not matching thier ambition by not buying the class and experience we needed in the summer. Gallas is finished at Arsenal now & Fabregas doesnt look too happy either.

Wenger needs to replace the likes of Diaby, Denilson and Song with proven worldclass players like De Rossi & Schweinsteiger or risk losing Fabregas in the summer

what a shit move, dropping the captain 1 day before a match. It could have atleast been done in a better way, or atleast asking him to step down. Hes our only half decent defender at the moment. He cares about winning. I think hes a cunt but we shouldnt be dropping our best players for speaking the truth. Some of his comments were excessive but hes right about us not being brave enough. I wanna see how Wenger handles this one… how will he manage to put a positive spin on this one?? Now we have an absoloute novice in our starting line-up… fucking stupid, Wengers been loosing for a while now. I am in no way saying he should go but he should have a look at himself.

I can only hope this isnt true and I wouldnt be surprised if it isnt. The team would already be in Manchester way before this whole Gallas being axed came about.

Gallas is right. Although he, as captain, shouldnt be talking about the dressing room in the papers.

RickyGee: No doubt Diaby has talent, rare dribbling ability, inconsistent yet often good passing, but his pedigree has not been realised. Is he good enough to displace Cesc? Or even Denilson as Cesc’s long-term understudy?

I have a lot of sympathy for what he’s gone through with the assault he suffered from that Sundyland c-nut. Nonetheless, he isn’t good enough and isn’t suited to our pass and move style.

The team would surely benefit from a proper left sided midfielder brought in ahead of him. And as for playing behind the striker, I for one would rather see us attack with Vela or RvP dropping deeper when needed.

    Almunia
Hoyte Djourou Silvestre Clichy (If Eboue and Ade are healthy)
    Eboue Denilson Song Nasri
    RVP Adebayor

    Almunia

    Nasri Denilson Song Diaby
    RVP Bendtner

Randall is probably injured, which explains why he didn’t play in the Norwich game.

As for Bischoff, he’s still working up to full match fitness, If I remember correctly, Neil Banfield said he wouldn’t be in his peak til New Year.

And Adebayor came back late this afternoon, so it’s unlikely he’ll be involved, let alone start.

As for not being as good as Cesc it’s incredibly difficult to make a comparison…Would he get as many assists? Maybe. Would he get more goals? I have no doubt that he would. Is he likely to win more balls in the air? Yes. Can he pass and move like Cesc? Not in a million years.

He may not suit our pass and move style but we dont have anyone apart from Ade (he tries) that can hold the ball in the opponenets half, slow the game down, have a look and build from there since Hleb left.

Yep, Gallas isn’t friends with Nasri at all.

Nasri took Thierry Henry’s seat on the coach at Euro2008, it all stemmed from that. A training ground incident subsequently followed in the French camp, in which Gallas shouted at Nasri and told him he “was not Nasri’s friend”.

    Hope that helps. :)

CEOT: whether he’s the answer to our problems or not is neither here nor there, he’s good enough to play and certainly good enough to be in the squad. He doesnt piss and moan, just gets on with his job when called upon and thats the kind of player I want in my squad.

His style strikes of a lack of determination and grit but the same could be said of Berbac**t, Huddlestone and even Kanu yet they are all quality players.

I agree that Ramsey should get more playing time but he isn’t ready for a starting birth. I watched Wales v Denmark on Weds rather than England and whilst he was very impressive, he was fucked after 60 mins.

I would also suggest that I’ve seen the likes of Gerrard, Rooney etc run around like headless chickens and yet make no contribution in certain games, yet the media and most fans think they’ve had a stormer because they run around a lot.

RickyGee: Diaby doesn’t understand off the ball positioning. He also does not help his fullback by tracking back. Sure, we can say that Rooney and Gerrard are “over-rated” b/c of their overzealous running, but they are top players. And they motivate their teammates. Diaby isn’t Kaka or Berbatov by some measure.

He cannot play in midfield unless he takes up a central attacking spot. In that regard he is like Huddlestone. More importantly, he has demonstrated time and again that he can’t play on the left and is not trusted to play a more defensive role. We aren’t in need of a player who would require Cesc to do even more leg work or requires a DM in a five man midfield.

He should be loaned out or sold and left sided player should replace him. In midfield, I’d rather see the likes of Ramsey, Song, Wilshere and Merida given more chances. Up front, surely RvP, Vela and perhaps Barazite have more to offer.

He’s been under scrutiny for quite some time now and has suffered (sometimes unjust) criticism during the start of the season. And with his mental state being a little frail so to say, It was only a matter of time before he would break down.

I think Arsene has done the right thing though. It’s not fitting for a captain to come out and publicly critise his own team and talk about bust-ups that should be dealt with internal.

Not sure about Hoyte starting though, he’s talented but I don’t think he’s YET got what it takes to handle Robinho or SWP for that matter. However we don’t have anyone else to choose at this point so I really hope he has a good game.

And while Arsenes already tinkering with the team, why not experiment a bit more? I’d really like Wenger to be brave and finally play Vela, Ramsey and perhaps even Wilshere.

    My team:

    Almunia
    Hoyte – Djourou – Silvestre – Clichy(c)
    Wilshere – Diaby – Ramsey – Nasri
    Van Persie – Vela

Gunner4life said this: Have a look on Arsenal’s website. Sanga is not on the injury list and neither is Adebayor. Don’t you think Arsenal themselves will be the first to report injuries to players.

hahaha, Arsenal.com fisrt with something. Please snap back to reality

Whats that update all about from Myles?

UPDATE, FRIDAY 8.50 pm: The above is NOT what happened.

Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to describe what did happen.

So I’m only gonna say one thing : Stop crucifying William Gallas.

He always gave 100% for Arsenal in every minute of every game he played. He does not deserve to be crucified and ridiculed by people who know nothing about his life and character.

CEOT: It was Kanu not Kaka I compared him with ;0)

I only want him to be a central attacking player, not a left winger or someone that has to do the tracking back for the FB. He’s a squad player that I think should play more. Under normal circustances, he wouldnt be a first choice for me but I would definitely keep him in the squad.

Again, to compare him with Song or Merida is unfair, they are completely different players. Agree on Ramsey as do a similar job and Rambos a better passer but again (and agreed, much like Diaby) cant last the pace.

Just another point and I hate to say it but I think Eboue was fantastic in the games he played this season and whilst nobody has said anything, I think maybe were missing him a little

Ash, people are right to be crucified and ridiculed by people, name another captain that storms off when 2-1 up and keeper needs confidence to save penalty, or when comes out and tells dressing room unrest about players, and all the other stuff he has stired, sell him!

What the hell. I never new nasri never speaks to gallas.

infact the whole french squad is fuucked up. Diaby does not sepak to ben afra because of a inccident when they were young. Now i hear benzema does not speak to anyone else apart from ribery. And that nasri does not get along with ribery it’s crazy.

Now they have brought there issues to THE ARSENAL.

Everybody fell out with Ben Arfa at Clairefontaine. I don’t think he would still hold a grudge from that long ago.

good point gooner chris, also i find it tedious that gallas had a falling out with nasri becuase he sat on henry’s seat. The french sqaud certainly has a lot of inflated egos. What do you think?

Sorry supergunner07, I will make sure I’ll pass what I say through you next time.

Definitely Kevin, it doesn’t help when players like Malouda are mouthing off in the press just like Gallas has done.

was gallas sacked or did he resign? According to sky different sources are saying different things. Ferguson got rid of keane and van nistelrooy when they became disruptive.
Gallas has a history of trouble making, I’m still not sure why he left Chelsea? I think he plays to the cameras. Give the armband to someone who loves arsenal and has less ego like kolo or cesc.

j-hi, I’ll try and put it into context for you.

Wenger had a meeting with Gallas yesterday afternoon and talked to him about his comments etc. What followed was a mutual agreement between both Wenger and Gallas that he would be stripped of the captaincy and not be involved in tomorrow’s game against City or in midweek against Kiev.

Now it’s all coming out in the press.

    Hope that helps. ;)
