Loanees – Lansbury Scores In Scunthorpe Defeat

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently have thirteen Reserve team players gaining experience elsewhere. Armand Traoré and Jay Simpson remain in the top flight with Portsmouth and West Brom respectively, whilst Gavin Hoyte, Nacer Barazite and Rui Fonte are playing Championship football for Watford, Derby County and Crystal Palace.

Further down the divisions, League One sides Leicester City, Northampton Town and Scunthorpe United have Kerrea Gilbert, Paul Rodgers and Henri Lansbury, while fellow defenders Abu Ogogo and Rene Steer will ply their trade with League Two Barnet and Gillingham. Two prospects are cutting their teeth aboard – Vincent van den Berg at Dutch minnows FC Zwolle, and Pedro Botelho with Spanish link club UD Salamanca.

In this update you can read about the following players in the following games.

Reports:

Nacer Barazite – Derby County 3-1 Nottingham Forest – (16 Minutes)
Henri Lansbury – Scunthorpe 2-4 Swindon – (58 Minutes)
Gavin Hoyte – Watford 1-0 Blackpool – (Unused)
Rui Fonte – Crystal Palace 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday – (Unused)

Rene Steer – Gillingham 2-1 Macclesfield – (90 Minutes)
Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester City 1-0 Bristol City – (90 Minutes)

Not In Action:

Armand Traoré – Portsmouth 1-2 Stoke City – (Injured)
Paul Rodgers – Northampton 0-1 Walsall – (Injured)
Abu Ogogo – Barnet 4-1 Bradford – (Injured)

Henri Lansbury – Scunthorpe 2-4 Swindon

Henri Lansbury repaid Nigel Adkins for handing him his first Scunthorpe United start, by bagging the second goal in the Iron’s defeat against Swindon.

Free-scoring Gary Hooper kept his superb run going when he stroked home the opener on 26 minutes.

Hooper then turned provider on 39 minutes, when the forward raced down the left, before cutting the ball back for Lansbury. Henri skipped past two challenges before lashing home a left footed drive.

Scunthorpe captain Cliff Byrne was dismissed shortly after the restart, and 10 minutes later his centre back partner David Mirfin followed him down the tunnel.

The wheels appeared to be well and truly coming off. Former United player Michael Timlin then halved the deficit. Lansbury was one of the unlucky duo withdrawn as Adkins attempted to reconstruct his defence.

Part of the new look defence – Andy Wright – sliced home Timlin’s cross on 71 minutes, as Swindon took full control.

Hal Robson-Kanu smashed Swindon ahead for the first time in the game on 82 minutes, leaving Scunthorpe shell shocked. Lee Peacock bundled home the fourth in stoppage time.

Nacer Barazite – Derby County 3-1 Nottingham Forest

Nacer Barazite had just 16 minutes to build on after scoring his first professional goal in midweek, but not through any fault of his own.

Barazite started in his usual right wing birth, but lasted just over quarter of an hour after being forced off the pitch through injury. Before leaving, the Dutchman was involved in a move which led to Lewin Nyatanga’s 5th opener.

Rob Hulse and Steve Davies doubled the advantage in the second period, before Rob Earnshaw pulled one back late on.

Gavin Hoyte – Watford 2-0 Blackpool

Gavin Hoyte’s run in the Watford team came to an end in midweek, when the loan Gunner was left on the bench.

Among the substitutes was where the 18-year-old found himself again this afternoon, as Bredan Rodgers attempted to stop his Hornet’s from leaking goals.

The defence more than paid its rewards in the second period, when centre back Mike Williamson crashed home to put Watford in front.

Tamas Priskin secured the points in the second half, as his late strike finished the game.

Rui Fonte – Crystal Palace 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Rui Fonte returned from international duty to take a place on Crystal Palace’s bench this afternoon.

In one of the least entertaining games in today’s roundup,  two late goals from Macasllister and Jermaine Johnson saw Sheffield Wednesday bag the points. Rui Fonte was unused.

Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester 1-0 Bristol Rovers

Kerrea Gilbert’s protracted run the Leicester side continued, as the Foxes looked to play themselves out of the recent bad form.

They got the perfect remedy when Matt Fryatt kept his goalscoring run going on 20 minutes. Jack Hobbs was dismissed in the second period for a professional foul, but City always looked in control.

Rene Steer – Gillingham 3-1 Macclesfield

Rene Steer was handed his second start since joining Gillingham on loan this afternoon, when he was selected at left back for the clash with Macclesfield.

The Gills had a fantastic start, summed up by Simon King’s strike with just 2 minutes played. Andy Barcham’s second half brace made the win safe in the second half.

Steer lost his clean sheet when Gareth Evan’s pulled one back from the spot late on, but the Gills held on to make sure of the win.

I aint posted for a while but feel compelled to do so right now.

Firstly, J. If i’m not mistaken ur still in ur teens and have aspirations to become a journalist someday so ur on the right track mate, keep it up. Ur committed and willing to provide info 4 us which is the first thing u need to be a success really.

Don’t let these “scouts” like Daniel Lionhead upset you with their insolent remarks about who’s gonna make and who aint, and while i’m on that subject, that’s something that really annoys me about these guys. I mean, who do they think they are ffs? I personally think they’re doing it to wind people up cos they either can’t be serious or have no idea whatsoever.

Another thing, why do people persist in asking J all these questions about who’s gonna make it and who aint gonna make it? As if he knows. Even if you asked Pat Rice or AW that they wouldn’t be able to answer that for u. Yeah, we got our fave players in the youths and reserves and we may desperately want them to make it but Jesus Christ people, NOBODY has any idea as far as that goes. For all u know a Sanchez Watt, or a Rhema Obed or a Thomas Cruise may go on to one day become Gooner legends and they’re far from the most talked about prospects right now.

    Big shout-outs to:

Henri Lansbury – They were two nil up at half time, its just such a shame his more experienced team-mates let him down by losing their discipline and took a bit of gloss off his achievement today.

Jay Thomas – Who is more or less carrying the under 18’s this season, (and that’s something i’ve never liked saying cos football’s a team game). A real captain’s role! Brilliant!

Kieran Gibbs – Who lately has looked just as good or even better than my joint fave player last year in Gael Clichy. Keep it up Kieran. Rarely puts a foot wrong in contrast to Gael who has been woeful to say the least at times this season.

My last note is on the first team. There is absolutely no initiative in there. Nobody thats ready to step up and try something different when what they’ve been trying for the previous 75 mins of the game aint f***in working. Something like what Cesc did against AC last year for example. This year we play an “English game” in the sense that we get it out wide and sling in aimless cross after aimless cross (except the English usually know how to cross). Nobody’s willing to drive into the box and take people on or pop a shot to catch the opposition keeper by surprise every now and then or play neat one-two’s in and around the box without immediately turnin back and passin it a good 10-20 yards back to a team-mate. We’ve gone from being the most exciting team in Europe to some boring, no clue-having side. It’s sad. But i’m sure we’ll fix up eventually, even if not this season. Once we gel, we’ll challenge Man Utd (who are playing more like an AW side recently). Maybe as early as next year.

    Okay, i’m done.

Good post as always J. Was just wondering if you could right something about Wilshere’s form? How come he hasn’t featured at all recently? I read someething you wrote that alluded to a dip in form, so thought maybe you could explain properly. If it’s true then it’s a real shame I really thought he’d get more 1st team action than he has this season..

TJ are you aware of how condesending you sound toward J?

Also, eegarding your question, ‘why do people persist in asking J all these questions about who’s gonna make it and who aint gonna make it?’ who are you actually asking this question to? If I may venture an answer, this blog is read by many people of varying intelligence and maturity, most of whom regard J’s opinions highly and just want to ‘get the inside track’ on the players. Let’s face it we all talk about players who we think will do a good job for us, I’m not sure anyone actually thinks J has some sort of crystal ball or gets the final say.

What I like about J’s reports is that he sticks to the subject matter without sliding into a self indulgent rant. See your last few paragraphs. If he is a teenager as you suggest then he demonstrates a maturity and self discipline well beyond his years, to the point of being exeptional. Personally I think he’s been round the block a few more times than that.

    Aaaah…..this pride o’ mine….it just won’t let me be….

    Wondrinfree….are u havin a laugh mate?

There aint a damn thing condesending about anything i said to J and anyone who thinks otherwise must be off their trolley. Neither did anything you have to say make me feel that i was actually in the wrong. So i’m here scratchin my head, thinking what’s with this guy?

J’s reports are more or less top notch and to think he’s still got his whole career ahead of him, i merely implied he’s going places.

Sometimes, people ask questions as if they really DO think he has a crystal ball or something. If they’re only children then that’s my bad and i hold my hands up. I just find it tedious and thought i’d say something.

If you was setting out to annoy me and provoke a reaction then congrats, it worked! I aint getting into nothing with you or anyone on this blog out of respect for Mr Sanderson so i’ll leave it there. Peace.
