Osasuna Enquire About Loaning Arsenal Defender Botelho

La Liga outfit CA Osasuna have begun their recruitment plans for next season, and top of their list is Arsenal wing-back Pedro Botelho.

The Brazilian has been a regular for loan club UD Salamanca this campaign; and his performances have led to several of the bigger club’s in Spain keeping tabs on the 19-year-old. Arsenal won’t be able to recall Botelho in the summer, as he still hasn’t gained the required criteria for a work permit, meaning another loan spell beckons.

Salamanca have already expressed their keen interest in securing Pedro’s services for a third season, but should they fail to gain promotion this term, the Gunners would prefer the leggy defender to gain more experience cutting his teeth in the Spanish Premeria. Carlos Vela followed the same route, and you could argue that the Mexican wouldn’t have been the same player without that season spent at Osasuna.

Arsenal’s representative at Salamanca – Richard Law – is already working on securing Botelho a loan to a bigger side, but it will all depend on how The Union get on in the final games of the season. Promotion should all but seal another season for Pedro, but Segunda football is not what Law wants for the livewire Brazilian.

Whatever happens, the left back won’t be coming back to North London in the summer.

Osasuna was great for Vela. Maybe a team playing in Europe could be more beneficial?

well its good that he will stay in spain. we have Gibbs and Clichy. for me Gibbs is really shaping up to be another great left back. Wish Bothelo could play at right back then we could get shot of Eboue.

Osasuna have improved recently but they still have a good chance of being relegated themselves. They’re 17th on goal difference so Arsenal will probably wait to see what happens with both teams.

I thought he was meant to be getting a work permit this year anyway? This is the problem with South American players. It takes years to get them a work permit (unless they can get a special talent permit) and then you have to renew their contract again as well.

This is good for Gibbs and Traore as if Pedro turns out better than them they now have another year to improve.

damn i wanted to see him next season. Do you think that he is not yet ready? And do you think that he has more ability and potential than Armand Traore?

J, but will Traore return? I think Arsenal should at least keep him for one season before considering selling him, he can play in different formations which may help us next year.

Also, our midfield lacks a killer passer at the mo, why is Merida not able to get a run-out?

If he plays in La Liga it will be great. He needs to step up now and play among the best to prepare him for the PL. Hope Salamanca do well in their last games

I thought South Americans could get Spanish passports after two years’ residence, which Pedro will have by the end of this season, hence bypassing the need for a work permit.

Mr Sanderson do you feel that young Pedro has any chance of even being a squad player for us? We already have Gibbs who now appears to be cementing his role as our back up left back and Traore who is a tremendous raw talent. Where would Botelho fit into our long term plans in your opinion?

Seems to me that his future lies at another club with a sell on clause in his contract similar to Bentley or Diarra.

thats a good thing..he should secure a PERMANENT move to ossasuna. kieran gibbs is an outstanding left back, and will no doubt keep traore out of the carling cup squad next season..unless he is loaned out.

Traore is a far better player than Gibbs and Pedro, but I can still see Wenger sell him for about 2m

Traore signed new terms shortly before he left on loan, so obviously the boss has some plan for him.

Pedro is a very good prospect, quick, full of tricks and very versatile. He’s different to Gibbs and Traore, and in time I’m sure he’ll get chances to show his quality.

Pedro is an interesting prospect… only every seen short vids of him playing but he certainly seems to be a player with impressive pace and trickery.
