Young Guns’ search for the hottest new blogging talent is well underway, and after being inundated with applications, we trimmed them down to find seven of the best who were challenged to write a Player Profile to prove their worth. Well today, we’re proud to announce the three who have made the final.
Surprisingly none of the contestants chose the same player and each of the profiles had a different twist. Some opted to give facts and figures, whereas there was also the biography approach and one involving an entrants own personal story with the particular player. All of them were good enough to be published on the site but there had to be three names picked.
Ben Jones – Mark Randall
Joe Best – Francis Coquelin
Lee Hackett – Rhys Murphy
Kazeem Atanda – Jack Wilshere
Nick Love – Emmanuel Frimpong
Tom Quinn – Luke Ayling
Nick O’Doherty – Chuks Aneke
After a day of arguing and analysis, the whole judging panel agreed on the following three names to compete in the final. It was very tight and at one stage we had a completely different list to the one below. But the three who will contest the final are:-
Ben Jones
“Ben displayed fantastic knowledge of his chosen player. Offering a flowing mix of facts, opinion and a cutting edge writing style, he showed all the attributes we have been looking for. “
Nick Love
“Nick clearly did his research and thought about the subject and criteria before starting. He was the first to send his entry in, showing speed yet accuracy in his work. The judging team were particularly impressed with the depth of information he uncovered.”
Nick O’Doherty
“Nick chose one of the hardest players to write about but did it very well. His research of all aspects of his career caught the eye as did his description of his talents.”
You can view the trio’s Player Profiles by clicking Here. In the grand final, we’ll be providing the ultimate challenge. Ben and the two Nick’s will be thrust out into the world of Arsenal news and asked to write a news article which will be published on the site for everybody to view.
We’re looking for some news which either has had little coverage, or even better, an exclusive. This will be a real test of their ability to sniff out news, their contacts and what they can bring to the team. It won’t be easy, that’s why they’ve given them one week to get their entry in. It can be anytime within that deadline, and then you’ll be asked to vote for your winner. The competition is hotting up, so stay locked to Young Guns for all the action.

congs 2 all da winners hope they add a new taste to da youth blogs henceforth
Having quickly scanned the 3 pieces, I’d have to say the profile on Frimpong was the best-written, and not just because he has an interesting story behind him.

Didn’t you think that his use of grammar was annoying? I thought it was informative and interesting, but so hard to read imo (Nick Love) Interesting as I said though, I think we can safely say that the other Nick is out the race as it read like a Wiki page… Go Nick L and Ben J, I wouldn’t mind either of you writing for this blog.
Just read all three, and I think it goes in this order..1)Nick Love 2)Ben J 3)Nick.
But I think Nick Love is the best by a fair bit. Much better written than the others. Derek I dont understand what you mean about the punctuation, and understanding it. Its very easy to understand. Well done to all though.
I thought he was the only one with good grammer quite honestly, although I didn’t read his piece in depth. I read the first sentence of the last one – then stopped. “Chuks Aneke (b. July 3rd 1993) is a giant midfielder which tremendous potential”. not the best start… The first paragraph of the first article was also written very poorly, so I stopped – A new visiter to the blog would’nt have been impressed. I don’t want to bee too harsh (although I probably am, apologies), but I haven’t written off journalism as an eventual career prospect for myself, so was rather interested in the competition.
Hey There,
i was wondering if you had any idea why Fran Merida isn’t in the squad for Barnet? What’s going on with him?
J who is this guy Sead Hajrovic who we have signed from grashoppers
Fran merida playin for spain under 19s likewise hoyte, lansbury, murphy bartley-standby for the england under 19s
Cant believe jay thomas is not there oh well
stonroy – I think Merida may have played some U19 games for Spain, and people who have been playing international matches aren’t in the squad. Not 100% positive, but I am pretty sure.
John I’m pretty sure Jay Thomas is in the squad.
That is your opinion and you make some very valid points, although not reading a whole article is a poor excuse for an opinion. For someone who hasn’t ‘written off journalism as an eventual career prospect…”, it worries me that you haven’t bothered to read something before forming your own opinion, which in my own opinion is bad journalism.
lol don’t worry Derik, if ever I did become a journalist I’d look further into things, but I don’t think you’d deny that it was possible to determine many charicteristics about their writing abilities from looking at the first paragraph or so of each article.
Ok, fair point mate :)
Just thought your judgment was a little harsh.
to be honest I think I agree, I wasn’t sure whether to write it or not, but then I just thought, rather profoundly “f*ck it”, and did.
