Wellington Jets In Ahead Of Arsenal Talks

Arsenal’s pursuit of Fluminense striker Wellington has stepped up a gear after the Brazilian flew into London this week to have a look around the facilities at London Colney and begin transfer talks.

Young Guns reveled last week that the club had booked out four hotel rooms all for Brazilian youngsters, and we’ve since been able to confirm that one of the rooms was for the quick-silver front-man. However, a move appeared to be dead last month when Fluminense coach Carlos Alberto Parreira promoted the Brazil Under 17 international to his first-team squad.

The starlet, nicknamed Ciel, has quickly become one of the most sought after youngsters among European clubs. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Barcelona are among interested parties, while Manchester United are believed to have made inquiries recently. United scouts will know all about Wellington as he hammered one of the goals which saw Flu win the Nike Cup at Old Trafford last summer.

Yet Arsenal have always been the front runners after Wellington impressed during a 7 day trial around Christmas time. He played 45 minutes for the Under 16’s against Norwich and he made an emphatic impression, scoring 4 goals. This led to speculation that he had been signed, but those reports were wide of the mark.

But now it appears a deal could finally go through. Liam Brady has openly been looking for a young striker with Chelsea’s Frank Nouble the latest name to be linked. It’s unknown how a deal would be formatted as FIFA rules dictate Brazilian youngsters must be 18 before they leave their native country, although if the players family are open to moving before a switch is completed this can be got around.

No. Arseblog said we’d agreed a pre-contract deal to sign Wellington, which is not true. He has come for talks and nothing has been signed.

great news, hope it all goes as expected. he looks like an amazing prospect. so he is the same age as Afobe, right? I can see them being the Youth Cup strikers and getting some reserves time as well.

I see Man Utd are also working hard to pick up top talent, especially Brazilians, so I’m pleased if we can continue to be front runners – it might not last forever. Ferguson has also been willing to throw youngsters into the fray.

Noticed that. The other prominent youth blog (George Bird’s) doesn’t have a link either.

    To answer your questions.

Alex – It’s a hard question to be honest, Nouble wouldn’t need anytime to adapt but he’s very raw. Wellington looks more of the polished article so I guess he’d be the better buy.

Cahya – Not sure on that one. There are reports that a development contract has been signed meaning we’ll get him in a few years but I don’t know.

Andy B – No, neither site has ever approached me offering a link exchange so I don’t link to them. Nothing political or whatever – with that sort of sensationalism you could work for The Sun.

no. 9: We own RVP, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela, Arshavin, Theo and Jay Simpson. But if that is not enough, surely you must be the only Arsenal fan not to know that 2 weeks ago Wenger said Chamakh is his first choice target “if someone leaves”.

Wow this is so confusing, there are a bunch of wellingtons in brazil (no pun intended) many of them young and promising footballers. To add to the confusion, the wellington you are thinking of john also plays for fluminenses, there is also yet another wellington in the fluminense first team.

    To clarify,
Wellington Silva Sanches Aguiar = Latin Complexion/Curly hair.
Wellington alves de Silva = In the picture at the top of the page.
Even the press are getting confused as to which one Arsenal are signing as I believe there was interest in both at one point or another. But I think the one that has flown in for talks is the one at the top of the page, Young Guns is correct.

Some football fans really are mugs aren’t they. People saying Chamakh looks useless have probably only just youtubed him, and people saying they want Aguero are just delusional. As for the one who said Wellington is Adebayor’s replacement because he’s good on FIFA – firstly I’m pretty sure this Wellington’s not on FIFA, and secondly if it was all that simple Arsenal wouldn’t employ scouts would they, they’d just buy a copy of footie man. That game has screwed up so many football fans, as have Man City.

chamakh is no better then ade and i would be gutted if ade left and we got him. We wil certainly have to replace him because we cant trust eddy and rvp to stay fit a whole season.

Wellington looks quality but wont it hinder the chances of some of our players who are also working through the ranks such as freeman, afobe sunu murphy watt, if hes much better then them then yes sign him however if hes just as good as our current strikers then i would rather we didnt sign him because i’d prefer homegrown talent to progress rather then imports.

Hey, not sensationalist at all dude, I dont read the Sun either…as mentioned by a chap above you are two of the real quality blogs, IMO, along with Goodplaya and ACLF (and I am partial to our yankee frind 7am Kick Off – he knows his stuff!). I know Arseblog and Le Grove have/ had issues and therefore don’t represent each other. We have an enviable blogoshere surrounding Arsenal which provides much better press than the actual press – and is a true voice for the fans of AFC…I would just like to have two of my favourites in cahoots! Its a regressive childhood thing!

Keep up the good work, look forward to hearing about the noobs as the season progresses, take care.
