Arsenal's Wellington Scores In Brazilian League Final

Wellington Silva opened the scoring and then converted a penalty as Fluminense beat Botafogo to claim the national Brazilian youth league at the weekend. The young striker is believed to be extremely close to wrapping up his protracted transfer to Arsenal.

The Brazilian Under 17 international opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he raced onto Matheus Carvalho’s pass, hurdled a last-ditch challenge and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Silva had another two chances to add to his tally but Botafogo stood firm and grabbed an equalizer.

It went to penalties and after Wellington Silva, Matheus Carvalho, Marcos Junio and the other Wellington converted, a slick save granted Fluminense the Brazilian youth league crown.

Confirmation is expected shortly of Silva’s transfer to Arsenal with Flu apparently being forced into selling the prospect after financial trouble meant players and wages were not paid.

It’s 99% done apparently. I’ll be confirming it as soon as I can.

The other guy I’ve not heard of, he didn’t play for Flu in this game so he must be quite far down the system.

Pedro played a lot at the start of the season but he’s been injured in the past weeks.

I think the future is to do deals like the Silva and Martinez ones. Sign them young and keep them with their clubs until they turn 18 rather they loaning them. Vela’s spotlight interview suggested he didn’t like being loaned and from Pedro’s experiences, I don’t think it has worked out.

just wondering though, with the player quota thing coming in will players like Martinez and this guy have trouble getting into the team since they do not formally join arsenal and hance do not train with us till their 18?

This is a good pick up. Fluminense is on the verge of being sent down to Series B. This kid can score.

    Welcome, merr.

Maybe, but we will have a large quota of English players who will be in the squad but not play. Like in our Champions League squad.

Saw him play at the U17 tournament in Nigeria, mostly as a sub because he is young even at U17 level. Absolutely amazing player. Best young player I’ve seen from Brazil in a while. He is very different from anyone else I can recall from Brazil in history. Maybe a bit of a Pele style, seems to be as skilled footwork wise, just that Pele was an all-round great player. Plse in case someone blasts me, I’m not suggesting he is as great as Pele was, just that it’s the clost in style that I can remember. He is blistering quick.

J – the whisper I heard last week was the moment RVP’s full injury was revealed Wenger instructed Gazidis to buy Edin Dzeko in January. After the Chelsea game today, this will probably be a priority. Have u heard anything or is my guy talking rubbish (although he told me Arsenal buying Sol Campbell was a done deal when everyone was saying it was an impossibility)
