Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal currently have six Reserves & Youth players gaining experience elsewhere. Jay Simpson is taking part in his third loan spell in as many years with West London outfit Queens Park Rangers. He is joined in the Championship by Henri Lansbury and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who are with Watford and Blackpool respectively. Gavin Hoyte has made his second loan move in a year by sealing a temporary switch to Brighton in League One.
The Gunners currently have two youngsters cutting their teeth abroad. Pedro Botelho is spending his third successive loan spell in the Spanish Segunda, but this time with Celta de Vigo, while Håvard Nordtveit is spending the campaign in Germany with Nuremberg.
Read all the latest reports below.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas played the full 90 minutes and scored as Blackpool drew 3-3 with Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Emmanuel-Thomas started in central midfield and would score a contender for goal of the season. Collecting the ball on the edge of the box, he jinked past two players before calmly slotting home to level the scores after Martin Woods and Billy Sharp had scored for Donny while veteran striker Brett Ormerod had pulled one back.
Ben Burgess then put the Seasiders in front with a superb strike of his own but Sharp struck again as both sides shared the spoils.
Jay Simpson played the full 90 minutes for Queens Park Rangers as they lost 2-1 to Leicester City on Friday night.
Simpson’s free-scoring form came to an end as Nigel Pearson’s ambitious side came from behind to win with two strikes from Matty Fryatt while Tottenham-loanee Adel Taarabt scored for QPR.
Henri Lansbury played the full 90 minutes as Watford were hammered by promotion chasing West Brom, 5-0.
Lansbury’s two goal haul last week which earned him a place in the BBC’s Goals of the Week video looked a million miles away as West Brom blitzed a youthful Hornets side. Jonas Olssen, Luke Moore, Gianni Zuiverloon, Simon Cox and a Graham Dorrans penalty did the damage.
Gavin Hoyte played the full 90 minutes at centre back as Brighton drew 3-3 with Hartlepool United.
In a topsy-turvy fixture, both sides could have claimed the points as a strike from Liam Dickinson and a brace from Nicky Forster were cancelled out by Adam Boyd, Andy Monkhouse and Richie Jones efforts from Pool. It finished 3-3.
Håvard Nordtveit played the full 90 minutes in central midfield as Nuremberg drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen.
Despite having a two goal lead through Christian Elgler and Albert Bunjanku, Bremen stepped things up in the second half and drew level as Aaron Hunt hit a classy brace.
Pedro Botelho played 71 minutes for Celta Vigo as their terrible form continued as they lost 2-0 to Real Unión.
A strike in either half from Gorka Brit condemned struggling Celta to another defeat as a huge dent in their attempts at promotion was formed.

J, if you watched the matches, how do you think our lads performed individually? I assume Harvard did well seeing as his side drew 2-2 against a strong Bremen team, but how did the other lads fair? JET for example, as what I have seen from him, he can be a bit lazy?
Cheers for the updates as always
He can be lazy but will probably become something like what we wanted Diaby to be when he first broke into the team..
I don’t think he could have watched all the matches as they’re not on tv so he would have had to go to the matches in person to write detailed reports.
Good work.
Its not possible for me to watch every single match especially because some are on at the same time and as mentioned most are not on TV.
JET has been average at Blackpool, some good stuff, some terrible stuff but thats typical from JET.
I think that, criticism is slightly harsh J. As JET taken a huge step to go up north to let be fair an average team and he’s done ok. When JET’s have been terrible so have most of the Blackpool side, he’s probably come in from stick from their fans too as he’s highly rated by us.
As for last season he captained our exceptionally successful youth team and played the vast majority of our under 18 games too so I wouldn’t agree with the average comment either. Loans are about development sometimes they can go exceptionally well other times you struggle, the key is development and what sort of player they come back as. If you read the latest Arsenal Mag there’s an interview with Sanchez Watt who says what an eye opener JET’s experienced.
