West Ham 3-1 Arsenal – Under 18's – Report

Arsenal’s Under 18’s continued their terrible recent run of form with a surpise 3-1 defeat against an exciting West Ham side. Steve Bould’s attempts to rally his troops with aggressive and sometimes confrontational rants seems to be back firing as an under strength XI crumbled.

Bould had to make do without the likes of Benik Afobe, Sead Hajrovic and Oguzhan Ozyakup due to international duty and the talented trio were missed. Sam Byles earned a start at right back alongside the out of form Rhema Obed at the back while Roarie Deacon and Jernade Meade were given run outs. Goalkeeper James Dunn started in what could be the final game of his loan spell with Liam Brady looking to make him a permanent young gun.

Dunn
Byles – Obed – Miquel – Evina (c)
Aneke – Yennaris – Henderson
Deacon – Freeman – Meade

Subs: Brislen-Hall, Edge, Ansah

Arsenal looked sluggish right from the offset but did manage to put together a few neat moves yet the final ball was lacking. Roarie Deacon and Luke Freeman both had early chances before a flooky Chuks Aneke effort saw Arsenal snatch a lead from nowhere. Despite a late rally from the Hammers the Gunners took the lead into the break.

Bould took off Miquel and captain Evina with the Reserves game on Monday in mind at half time. George Brislen-Hall and Jamie Edge came on and their lack of experience at this competitive level tolled. West Ham snatched three unanswered goals and to cap things off Edge left the field injured. Free scoring Zak Ansah replaced him in a reshuffle but Arsenal never looked like forcing a come back.

Jay Emannuel Thomas scored a excellent goal for Blackpool. Nice foorwork and a tidy finish. He’ll make an excellent targetman when ready.

hmm even without Afobe, Hajrovic and Ozyakup we shouldn’t lose I think. Still in the side played Miguel, Aneke, Henderson and most importantly Deacon with Freeman but hopefully as the season “gets older” they will too and will get back to winning tracks but shouldn’t we expect that? It’s first season for most of them in u18 and now they’re under some pressure I think. It’s not the same like it was when we’re top of the table last season with huge points advantage.

As for J. Thomas after some games in wich he sat on the bench showed what he’s all about. I’m wondering where is he going to play? Good dribble, can score, good in defending, pacy even he’s tall. If someone have link to goal and this one of Afobe write it down here, please.

JET is a great future player who doesn’t get enough playing time. Hopefully he get atleast 30 min every game from now on. And hopefully he will performe in every game from now on. First time I saw him was in FA youth cup against tottenham and haven’t been dissapointed since then.

is it just me or every1 thinks that when v dont have Oguzhan Ozyakup available we struggle for creativity… i think the defensive changes also cost us the game …but the reserves game is perhaps more imp considering it is a step closer to the first team…

Its great jay thomas scored but how was his general game like?

Arsenal under 18s defence is shocking. Also what the hell has happened to conor henderson he looked a terrific prospect but like always injuries ruin careers. Look at frimpong for an example.

Arsenal need to play hajrovic with miquel cause boateng and obed are terrible.

Boateng for me has been found out in this level

West Ham U16s just smashed Arsenal 7-3, have won all 10 games this season, but only have 2 in the England U16s and 1 in the U17s (and he was on stand-by before scoring twice in the 1st game)!

Laughable! Clearly the best Youth team at that level by a mile!

The England U16’s coaches have alot of young players to choose from so they cannot pick everybody, and you never know he might get picked for the Scotland match IMO.

EyeBall Paul – I actually had a kickabout with one of the West Ham u16’s players the other day. Surname was Powell – forgot his first name. Decent player, and he was telling me afterwards that the Arsenal game was their biggest test this season and if they beat them it would prove they’re the best around at that age group this year (which they’re clearly showing). Although it wouldn’t have made too much of a difference, the Arsenal lads were missing Jamie Edge and a kid who can’t scoring this season in Zak Ansah.

Jack Powell was it? Good young striker. Obviously West Ham’s best school boy Rob Hall was off with England U17s, so makes up for Ansah not being there.

That West Ham U16 side is loaded with talented players though. Especially in forward areas! Probably good so many aren’t chosen as we all know that a performance on TV just attracts attention!

That’s the one i think although he told me he plays CM. West Ham will always produce top quality talent as long as people like Tony Carr are around.

I’ve watched the lil hammers in action twice this season in an 9-0 stoke home win & 8-1 everton away win, respectfully destroying the opposition. Question is how many of them will get scholarships and stay together… could be the new generation for years to come lol
