Arsenal Make Offer For Fulham Goalkeeper Dunn

Liam Brady will hold negotiations with Fulham over the weekend in a bid to thrash out a deal to sign 17-year-old goalkeeper James Dunn who is currently with the Gunners on an emergency loan.

Dunn was drafted in during October due to injuries to James Shea and Yilmaz Aksoy while Luke Chambers and Sean McDermott had international duty. Steve Bould has previously turned to the loan market to bring in stoppers with Harry Lee and Liam O’Brien joining for short cover spells in recent years.

A former Millwall trainee, James has been a Fulham player for just over year yet he’s already had a spell with Southend where he covered injury. He is an athletic and agile goalkeeper who has been praised for his speed off his line and his shot stopping ability. One claim to fame for Dunn is that he scored directly from a goal-kick for the Whites Under 18’s last term.

A first year scholar, James turns 18 in December and although Arsenal have some exciting young stoppers in the form of Reice Charles-Cook, Yilmaz Aksoy, Luke Chambers and newly signed Damián Martínez – who is currently back on with Independiente – Arsenal are keen to add Dunn to the ranks as extra cover incase a similar goalkeeper problem emerges again.

More news is expected after the weekend.

Good on the lad. He knew he’d get a chance to impress and has taken it. Who knows how far he could go now…

What is the deal with all these goalkeepers? I thought Szczesny was the reserves keeper and McDermott the U-18 keeper, I can’t see why we need somebody that Fulham were willing to loan out. But hey, Banfield and Wenger must know better than me. Interesting though that we have, I think, 5 youth international GKs (Szczesny, McDermott, Martinez, Chambers, Aksoy) and one full international (Fabiansky), while the two playing in the league this year have never gained international honours.

    cheers mate. good to know.
hopefully with all these talented young keepers on our books and such fierce competition between them we shouldn’t have goalkeeping worries in the future like we do right now

Having a world class keeper can mean the difference between winning a title and sloppy seconds!!??!! look at the west ham game, manu and city could have nabbed us at least an extra 6 points on top of what we got!!!!! that would have made us top by one point and a game in hand!!!! so let the search for ‘golden gloves’ continue!!!!

It’s surprising but probably beneficial to have so many keepers, as competition between them will be really intense.

The Under 18’s is big business so another option is worth while. He’s basically replaced Charlie Mann who’s gone to Palace because of McDermott’s arrival. This is a decent signing if we can pull it off.

But will he ever be better than Martinez or McDermott and therefore have a chance to be Arsenal’s keeper?

Hi jay. You know that your template doesn’t work in the mobile mode with the iPhone? None of the arrival text is coming up when you select an article it only shows the image.

I think you are proably missing a php element for the article in this mobile mode. Think you should get an iPhone to test it out.

    Great site by the way!

Re: Stone. That’s unbelievably true. Almunia is a top Prem ‘keeper but in my opinion, these days the best GKs must be full internationals. World Cups and continental competitions are just the stage that Arsenal’s players should be used to. Just look at Arshavin – if he didn’t shine during Euro 2008 would he be at Arsenal, or still be at Zenit? We need a world class goalkeeper because at the moment we’ve got quality, however incosistent, goalkeepers. Another youth GK isn’t a bad idea, but I think Arsenal need a better first team GK.

If arsene wenger can retain the services of merida, wilshere, ramsey, vela, gibbs, bendtner, fabregas, djourou, fabianski, mannone, nordveit, frimpong, coquelin, eastmond, lansbury, walcott, hoyte, afobe, freeman, edge… then arsenal would be a force to reckon with… they will be the new manchester united.

if we sign Dunn it may lead to Szczsney going out on loan to a league 1 or championship club for remainder of the season, and that would be a very good move as this lad has the ability to be world class and be our number 1 within 18 months
