Arsenal Complete Wellington Silva Signing

Arsenal have finally wrapped up the protracted signing of Brazil Under 17 international striker Wellington Silva. The prospect will complete the move from Fluminense when he turns 18, in January 2011.

The Gunners have taken advantage of a financial problem with Flu and after thrashing out a deal last month, everything has been signed and sealed. Arsenal have paid for 65% ownership of Wellington, and will pay the other 35% when he is eligible to move to England. Fluminense have been struggling to pay players and staff so an immediate payment has been made to ease their cash-flow problems.

Agent Rodrigo Pitta conducted business on behalf of the Brazilian Serie ‘A’ club, and confirmed to local newspapers yesterday that everything has gone through.

“We completed the transfers last week, he is already an Arsenal player and Fluminense has already received some money.”

The chase is finally over for one of the most exciting attackers outside of Europe. The starlet, nicknamed Ciel, impressed during a 7 day trial last Christmas – he even played 45 minutes for the Under 16’s against Norwich – and he made an emphatic impression, scoring 4 goals. In a bid to warn off potential suitors who included Chelsea, Man Utd, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Barcelona, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira promoted Wellington into his first-team squad trusted Brazil-based scout Sandro Orlandelli managed to orchestrate a deal worth £3.4 million to secure his services.

Silva can play either up front or on the wing and he posed for pictures sporting a replica shirt with his name on it for social networking site Facebook shortly after confirmation was recieved.

Cheers JS, was waiting to see it here before I believed it. Am I right in saying that the Mirror have pictured the wrong player?

No idea who the Mirror have! I’ve added a picture for you to help.

Just glad to put this bed, one more Wellington question and I’ll scream!

Nothing just yet on Sterling, I’d expect some more movement on that next week.

    bah, 2011.

also, how big are the chances of him getting a work permit seeing as we flopped two times with vela and wenger did not buy messi because of work permit fears?

The Vela thing was different because we took him out of his country at 16. Once Wellington turns 18 he will be able to move here no problem.

I’ve seen little bits of him. He’s an explosive striker who can play on the wing or as an attacking midfielder. He’s small but he’s bulky, like Arshavin kind of physique. Very agile, technically fantastic and looks to be a huge star in Brazil.

Really good news, JS. Happy to finally have this locked up. Sounds like we did a fair bit of business to get him for 3.4m. Even if we have to wait awhile, I’m excited to see what he does in an Arsenal kit and how quickly he can get to the first team.

same as when Vela posed with Arsenal shirt before moving to Celta, though the face is not showing here. Good now the official registration owned at once, like with Denilson. I do guess he will not take Van Persie’s no 11 as on that picture. This is exciting times to see an endless flow of talents, if only Vela can get a breakthrough soon like the amazing Song has

So am I correct in this. We took two Brazilians on trial, Wellington and Conte. This Conte has been signed by Inter? Is that true?

J, big fan of the site mate. Jus to echo what no9 said,
what is the news on Zezinho? Are we likely to sign
both him and Sterling, or is it a case of one or the
    other?

    Keep up the good work.

Luis Gustavo Conte is already an Arsenal player. We have signed him but because of his age he will stay at Mirrasol for a couple of years.Zezinho is the next one to arrive along with Raheem Sterling.

Nice one Jay, and Happy New Year to you.

This guy looks like a great prospect.

On a loosely related note – are we likely to make a bid for Eden Hazard?

Yeah J sorry to make you scream but you won’t stop getting Wellington questions. It’s just they have now changed to ‘so is he going to go on loan? and where?’ as opposed to ‘got any info on the Wellington signing?’. Happy NYE goons.

Why can he come at 18? I thought he needs a work permit which means either played a high proportion of games for the national team (definitely not) or some exemption for special promise (per Denilson). The latter is not guaranteed & seems unlikely. Surely therefore he will have to go on loan to a Spanish club…

Imagine Afobe, Sterling, and Lukaku on the field together that would be insane. Of course we have signed 1 already lets hope we sign the other 2. I wouldnt want to be Wenger in 5-10 years time can u imagine the headache he will have for pickin the team he will have so many players lol.

Good news.. I just hope Afobe stay & AW dont sign Wellington as Afobe replacement, that way we’ll have 2 (very) talented strikers in our book (I would surrender Wellington to Barca anyday, if that is the cost to see Afobe flourish through our ranks & become one of the greatest striker in England history)

He isn’t allowed to join the squad yet because he is under 18. FIFA have introduced new rules recently that mean players under 18 must stay in their home country unless their family relocates to that new country.
