Factfile: New Arsenal Signing – Samuel Galindo

With Arsenal on the verge of signing Samuel Galindo, transfer rumour and Arsenal sites are buzzing with his name. Yet many Arsenal fans are asking ‘who is this kid’ and ‘where has he come from’. To assist said fans, we’ve produced a brief factsheet on the latest wonderkid to join Arsène Wenger’s revolution.

Stats:

Born: 18/04/1992
Age: 17
Height: 6’2”
Position: Attacking Central Midfielder/Winger
Nationality: Bolivian
International Apps & Goals: Under 20 – 4 (1)
Previous Interest: Everton, Manchester City, Newcastle, Fiorentina, Spartak Moscow

Behind the Stats

Despite his tender years, many commentators, including this site, have suggested he might be able to have an effect on this season so long as his work permit is cleared. These suggestions are almost certainly rooted in his physique and maturity, both of which defy his youth.

At 6’3” he makes an imposing figure, towering over players his own age so significantly that opposing coaches asked to see his birth certificate at the Under-17 South American Championships. His rangy nature has also led to comparisons with Patrick Vieira, though this seems odd considering his playing style. His maturity is obvious from the leadership roles he has been given, first as captain of the Bolivian Under 17’s and then the Under 20’s, despite being  three years younger than many of his team mates.

His playing style is reminiscent of a typical South American playmaker, with a superb passing range as well as the ability to get past men.

All due respect, but drop the whole Winger facade. He is not a Winger. Never will be.
    Great factfile though, very handy.

    Good job on this.
On Arsenal.com, Wenger has definitely confirmed Galindo’s arrival and he’ll be looking to loan him out to a Spanish club, just like what is done with Vela and Pedro.
Welcome to the Arsenal, Samuel Galindo. :)

On the player: he is Bolivian, so has a great stamina from playing in mountains. He is tall yet handy (like indeed Vieira of Fellaini or Diaby) and a great passer. The film I saw of him was great, he has amazing technique ‘for such a tall bloke’. I really hope he can come here directly and learn from Cesc, Arshavin, van Persie, Song and whatever, and also because in my opinion he can be a great Denilson, someone to connect defense with attack, Song with Cesc. Tall, powerful, great vision and technique. What is not to like? Mature as hell, and ambitious, because of how he ditched Everton for us. Anyone know if other clubs where after him?

He’s only 17 so he can get taller and stronger yet!! Well whoever was after him it doesn’t really matter, because he has chosen Arsenal. So Stoke city could have been after him…I don’t care lol. I’m sure you all know this, but rumours and such count for nothing. I can’t believe that some clubs do this, but it would be rediculous to sign a player solely on the basis that he was wanted by other clubs in direct competition with the prospective buyer or the player was wanted by some big clubs. If you know how good the player is that is all that matters. And Everton have some great players themselves anyway. And a great mananger, who in my opinion is right near the top so far as his personality and ability is concerned! But he isn’t as good as Arsene!! I don’t mean to seem like a know it all, I’m just saying that we don’t have to compare our signings to any other clubs!! And we don’t have to be ashamed of our signings if they weren’t linked to any so called “big clubs” Leave all that to the stupid rumour mongers and fake fans!! We want this player and we might need this player soon!!:D

Wenger said he was looking to loan him to spain and he has some clubs in mind. That is posted on Arsenal.com. Saw him play 1 game vs the brazil u20s. He definetly looks like a italian style deep lying playmaker. 6’3, 17 year old captain of his you 20 national team, good vision and passing, strong, solid tackler, good drive from the midfield, good engine. What more can you ask for in a prospect?….Also is good to see players from less prominent soccer nations, make it to big clubs.

true shane, cant remember any Bolivian really becoming a huge star. I understand Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Equador are the most prominent higland Andes countries, though my knowledge is very limited. I know Bolivia has excelled at home a lot, said to be because of the high altitude, still they have struggled away from home. As they have not excelled so much before with football stars, except a few in lower La Liga sides, I think this must be excellent for them. Chile did have one of indigenous decent in Zamorano, while Peru had Solano together with a few others.

For Galindo I saw only clips of him on you tube, which of course with the right cutting can even make a crap but happy footballer like me look promising. Still, in those videos he seems to have a McManaman kind of style rather than Vieira, close ballcontrol amazing for that tall dangling body and an offensive attitude.

It is cool to see players play at true top clubs like Dwight Yorke from Trinidad, Hleb from belarus, Pandev from Macedonia, Adebayor of togo, David Sauzo of Honduras..etc. Its gives every kid from those countries hope that some day they could make it.

Cempitition for places is not a bad thing. Sometimes we have to understand that Arsenal is one of the cream of the crop clubs in the world so our standards have to be set really high. Competition pushes players on to get better and only the ones ready for this level make it instead of settling for a player that just is ready for the high level of this club.

I’m not so sure about that, His performance is getting better in the last few games but hi is not “back” yet. Milan was playing against 10 men & to me Boriello was the match winner (I saw the game). Boriello scored the opening goal of the match & won the penalty for the 2nd goal (Ronaldiho 1st goal of the match, btw) which consequently reduce Siena into 10 men. The other two goals came after the incident, one from a corner (Dinho’s header) & the other one scored from outside the box. So, he is on his way alright, but not back (yet).

Btw, this Eastmond kid really reminds me of Gilberto Silva..

And I dont know about the Eastmond Gilberto Silva thing. People forget that Gilberto Silva was originally a Attecking mid which definetly helped things like distribution and technical skills on the ball. I am not sure about Eastmond yet. He has time to improve and I am sure he is improving but as a player out there in a prem game today, he definetly looked a little out of place. We can all say that, even “oneofus”. Cant imagine what his passing percentage was and he didnt put in very many tackles. And I know “oneofus”, your comments are coming that I am being harsh on the player but in my opinion wants you are playing in a premier league game, you should be judged and will be. Maybe in a couple of years he will be ready but not now.

Merida was hard to judge because of the timeing in which he came into the game. We looked like we were just trying to see of the game by maintaining possesion rather than necesarilly pushing on to finish the game. So in that sense, instead of being a creative more of an attacking mid, a lot of times he just dropped the ball or made simple passes. He did a job but didnt stand out really for what type of player he is. Plus he got caught on the ball, in a bad position by trying a trick that wasnt necessary,(you so Fabregas yell at him) but then when you score a goal, your overall performance a lot of times gets masked. Overall I would say he was solid but not a standout.

Yes I agree with u, I also got the impression that he is not a playmaker like Cesc. He can pick a pass alright, brillian one sometimes, but he doesn’t have d ability to control the tempo of the game. This is what Cesc good at, even when he is at the same age as Merida..

There arent alot of cesc fabregas’s tho. Actually if you think about it he is the only one of his kind to me. Passer that control the pace of the game often play deeper. Like Xabi Alonso, Pirlo etc. Or they are like Xavi, they get alot of possesion, have great ball control, but are really just link players. They get the ball and find simple passes to player like Messi and Iniesta who go on to do the business in the final thrid. Fabregas is a guy who controls the pace of the game with simple passes to the play maker like Arshavin, but is also a plamaker himself with the ability and vision to make the extremely tough passes in behind the defence. Also he has the abilty to run with the ball and create that drive from the midfield like a Gerrard. Then of course he has the abiltiy that makes you even a step above the other great midfielders, which is the ability to do the business in the final 3rd with the goals. Really when you think about it, he is really become the top centermid in the world and is a the most complete midfielder in the world. As for young guys, Ramsey is the one that looks in the Fabregas mould to me. Merida looks more like he will turn into a playmaker type like the Iniesta type.

Yah maybe your right, I will have to think about it a little more tho. He is one of those guys the is a outside mid in a 4-4-2 or in a 4-3-3 but a center mid in a 4-3-3. Small diminutive play makers that are quick but not necesarally fast. Kind of like a Modric,Inesta, Ireland sort of guys.

It seems that Wenger is in no hurry to buy a striker. He prefer to save club’s money, as always as he did. Sometimes I ask to myself, does Wenger think that in our last ten games, we managed to score 19 times and only 4 of them was from our ” strikers”. Even with return of Bentnder I dont expect more goals. Wenger talk and expect the return of Bentnder like if he was the type of clinical finisher, like drogba or nistelroy. We all know how Bentdner lose good balls and good chances, so personally, I dont think that Arsenal could cope with other 2 teams for title.
It s so shame to think like that for Arsenal, but If Arsene dont sign a striker I am affraid that WE gonna finish like last year.

Bolivia’s big star was Marco Etcheverry, who played for DC United in the MLS and was voted MVP some years ago for the whole league. As such Europe never got to see him. When Bolivia did qualify for the WC in 94, he was injured in the first game and didn’t play again. Certainly Bolivia doesn’t have a pedigree for producing top players, but every country is capable of producing an occasional star. Generally Bolivians are short, so 6’2 is well out of the ordinary.

As a second note, only La Paz and Cochabamba have altitude advantage. I’m not sure where Real America are based, but more likely in Santa Cruz, which has no altitude advantage.

When Bendtner comes back we can finally start holding up the ball again and Fabregas won’t have to do it all by himself. Seriously, the gap between midfield and attack is sometimes as extensive as the Grand Canyon. Arshavin did very well against Stoke but hasn’t turned out so well in the center since. Eduardo should play wide in our system, and Vela as well.

Fuck Zambia. They lost their advantage against Cameroon and now Song is in the second place. But if Tunisia beats them in the last round, Cameroon will be out and Song can return to the bench against Villa and start the United game.

From 2007 onwards, I knew Fabregas would become the best centre mid in the world. He wasn’t scoring goals, and I still feel that he doesn’t HAVE to, to be considered a great player. At first he was almost an exact copy of Guardiola, who was his idol, and who was one of my favourites too. He still isn’t fast which is fine, but he runs into the final third a lot more than Xabi Alonso or Guardiola ever did. If you notice, he isn’t making as much of those really long, defence splitting passes as he did before. We don’t have a big striker now, and because he is running so much upfield, he doesn’t have to. I really miss that part of his game, but still he is a better all-round player now. But still didn’t you love seeing those huge passes?? I don’t want to sound crazy, but in a way, the reliance on him to score goals, has ruined the player he once was. I knew it would happen, but still, it really pissed me off when people were knocking him for “not scoring enough” He was wasting SOME chances, but that wasn’t the player he was or the player he wanted to be. Now he is an all conquering force!! I’m just saying I miss that Guardiola part to his game. In my eyes he is the best midfielder in the world. And it isn’t because he is “scoring goals” In my opinion a midfielder’s primary responsibility is to pass the ball well, and to the right player, and nobody does it better than him. It’s been that way for a few years now. I’m not saying he was the best in the world the whole time, but he is now.

Um Milo…The goal scoring part has no affect on the defence splitting passes. That is simply down to the change in formation and the type of wingers we choose. In a 4-4-2 you have 2 forwards that are always high up the field, pressing the 2 centerbacks and trying to make runs in behind them. Plus 2 wingers marked by outside backs. This meens 4 attackers a alot of time isolated 1 on 1 with a defender also meens there is the space and attackers trying to break in behind the defence. That is what leads to Fabregas making those “defence splitting passes. ……..

In a 4-3-3, especially with the type of wide players we have, In is more about possesion and attacking down the middle. It is more breaking about breaking down a defence. Instead of the Forward, (when we have our regular forwards, bendtner and VP.) trying to make runs in behind the back line, his job is to show for the ball, hold it up and bring all the midfielders in to the game. Plus we have mostly possesion wide players rather then direct fast wingers that make those runs in behind the defence.

It is simply down to tactics. Goals never hurt.

In my opinion Messi and C. Ronaldo are the best wide attacking mids in the world but there are alot of clones of them or quality wingers, while not be quite as good as them, are still very good. Arshavin,Ribery,Zarate,Di Maria,Ozil,Marin,Lennon,Young,Hazard,Dembele,..etc. To my the player that should have the highest price take is Fabregas, because there is only 1 of his type and it is in the most important position. There is no “poor mans Fabregas”

Well I guess my main point is this…Even if he didn’t score any goals, or dribble past two or three players, he would still be the best in my opinion. I never understood the big push for him to score a whole bunch of goals. Never. I guess i’m just used to the general opinion that scoring goals isn’t the most important thing for any midfielder. Of course it’s great, but I think people were getting carried away with it regarding Fabregas. Two or three years ago, when healthy, for me he was still world class. There’s that frase again. But he truly was. His role now has evolved now which is fine. I guess this was more a stream of consciousness than anything else. Not really an argument, just a reflection.

I completely agree with you on that. It always killed me when people would say that he isnt as good as Lampard or Gerrard, because he doesnt score goals. Trust me I have argued for Fabregas on that point forever. Lampard is just a goal scorer and does not 1 of the other qualities that Fabregas brings to a game. I made a comment on here listing all his qaulities that he has. It is a few comments up. The point is tho that now that he scores goals like he does, there is not 1 thing people can say he doesnt do well. The goals simply put him over the top as clearly with no argument (even tho people still will), he is the best centermid in the world. Actually if we win a trophy and the coach is smart and plays him in the world cup which I think spain will win, I believe there is a good chance Fabregas will be named FIFA World Player of the Year.

Eastmond, tidy game but took time to get into it. Cesc, amazing, if he gets crocked we’re screwed. Merida came on and looked sharper and played better than Arshavin, Traore, Almunia and Dudu combined. Seriously, after the last 3 games I’m almost on the verge of PRAYING TO WHATEVER DIVINE POWERS CONTROL THE COSMOS that Bendtner comes back (and I’ve been an atheist since I was 14). I’ll also offer some in case Vermaelen gets crocked.

    Back onto Galindo,

    http://tinyurl.com/ycd8lym

Its translated using google translate, so its not the easiest to read.. But it basically says they have proof he is actually 20 going on 21 and not 17! and he has been lying about his age!

Anyone else heard anything on this? Looks pretty bad if its true…

Gunners will surely take 3 points at Emirate Stadium but I expect them to play safe because they clearly understood Bolton’s ability. Wenger’s side is confident to control the match after leading so Gunners will stop fire after score 2s and Bolton may has a chance to steal a goal in last minute.
