Szczęsny Loan Extended As Mannone Stalls On Move

Wojciech Szczęsny has extended his loan spell with Brentford for a further week, while Arsenal wait for Vito Mannone to make his mind up on a potential switch to Plymouth Argyle.

Szczęsny initially joined Brentford on loan in November and has now twice penned extensions – the latest taking him up to the 30th of January. The Bees have been talking to Arsenal about extending the loan since Monday but were told a deal was off as Wojciech would be promoted to third-choice with Vito Mannone heading out the exit door for an experience building move.

Vito had been in talks with Plymouth Argyle but he failed to agree terms and asked for extra time to study other offers. Poland international Szczęsny then had a meeting with Arsène Wenger where he made it clear his frustration at the situation as he was keen to continue his run of games. Instead, the Gunners managed to quickly agree a short-term deal with Brentford. This means the 19-year-old will be eligible for games against Norwich, Southampton and Oldham.

    Thanks,
We could use Mannone as a part exchange for another player, just a thought.

can you imagine a situation where Scschezny refuses to sit on our bench for x number of years while Fab is number 1? I mean he could leave and go to a bigge club. I am sure the a lot of other top clubs are aware of how good he is. Question is, how many clubs would put a 19 year old in their team?

Goalkeeper is a position you get better with experience. He should simply stay onloan until he is completely ready. He is top 2 teenage goal keepers to me alongside David De Gea of Atletico Madrid.

Heard on Goal.com that Canales is headed to Real:S I know, I know, it’s Goal.com, but still, I’d be pretty bummed out if it is true. I’d rather he go to Chelsea than to potentially see a great young talent become frustrated at the Stupid Whitehouse (sorry Shane lol) just being dumb there haha. Anyways, I know we have a lot of young attacking talent so it would be hard for him here as well, but if he went to another English club, or Italian, or maybe even Barca, I would have thought it would have been in his best interest. It’s just my opinion, and he’ll probably be huge anywhere he decides to play.

Joining Chelsea would be a good move for him…lol. How much have they spent on young players in recent years? Alot and how many of them get any time in chelseas first team? None. Who knows whats in a young players best interest but in his situation, obviously teams that promote youth developement like Arsenal are a good choice. Italy isnt exactly the place for young players. I would say join Arsenal or a club like Sevilla, or stay where you are. Top class talent tho if you have never seen him.

Well Chelsea are “saying” they need to invest more in youth, and their players are getting a little older. You’re right about Italy though. Obviously if he chose to come here it would probably be great for him and the club. I said it was my opinion, and then i said, that of course I didn’t know for sure, and that he’ll probably be great wherever he plays. Still, Real Madrid??? :S

If he went to Madrid they would loan him back for 2 years to Santander so he could continue developing there. I’d take that option too, Arsenal is a great club for developing youth but we play in the wrong league. You could have your career ended any moment a lot more here due to English Grit.

Ahhhh actually I shouldn’t bash Real Madrid so much lol. Underneath it all, they are still a great club. lol And he won’t even be there next year anyways. They’ll loan him back to Racing or some other club so he can develop. If he spent time in their reserves, it probably wouldn’t hurt either. He’s playing right now as a sort of second striker for Racing I think. That was for John lol

Sergio Canales is actually a Attacking mid/ forward who plays behind the striker. He is left footed, has good vision and is a great finisher. He also is Racing’s set piece taker.

If Szczęsny is that good, then maybe next season would be the right time for Almunia to step down don’t u think? I mean, Almunia is 33 years old this year and he is not getting any better. Just look at him, at his age his positioning & decision making ability doesn’t improve much (Since his first appearance for us, the only thing that pretty good about him is his reflexes). I honestly don’t see any reason why we should keep him as our 1st choice GK. I think it will be better if he steps down and “clear the way” for the 3 youngsters. Let them compete each other & show us what they can really do in the high level.

Tsokan…LOL. Are you Vito Mannone in disguise or related to him. Calm down buddy. 3rd choice doesnt always meen the coach rates you better then the guy the send on loan. Here is an example that will make you feel a little dumb. Is the back ups at Man City rated as high as Joe Hart who they sent on loan?

Giondono- I dont think a club of our stature should have a 20 year old keaper as our #1 but Schez in the future definetly looks like our guy. 33 isnt old for a keeper but Almunia to me just isnt that good for a club like ours. He seems to get scored on by pretty easy shots. Look at Cahills shot verse Bolton. It was a weak shot and he didnt even move.

I know 33 is not old for a goalie, but like u said Almunia just not good enough for us (that’s exactly my point). And Shane, what do u mean by saying a club of our stature should have a 20 year old keeper as our #1? What about Madrid & Casillas?

Casillas is a good example why we shouldn’t have to be worry about having a 20 year old GK.

How many Casillas’s are there in the world? Ok yes if he is as good as casillas was then ok, but normally, I think if he could play on loan for 3 to 4 more years and start for our club when he is completely ready, that would be ideal.

Yeah,, but a 33 years old Almunia doesn’t prove to be ideal too, wont you agree?
Any way, I’m not saying that we should sell or release Almunia immediately. He can stay here as a backup & mentor for the 3 youngsters (just like what AW did with Jens). Although I disagree that age is the main factor here, I’m not suggesting Szczęsny to be our 1st choice (read my comment again), I said let them compete each other just like the way we let Diaby, Denilso & Song compete each other when flamini left us.

Or, we can have Fabiansky as our No. 1 & let Mannone and Szczęsny compete each other as his deputy just like the way we choose clicy and having traore and gibbs as his backup when cashley leaves

Giandono- I see what you are saying. Goal keeper isnt like any other position on the field. You dont really change goal keepers from game to game like you would in other positions. Also for a goal keeper, trust me I was 1, the only way you really get better is to play. That is why young ones should be sent onloan. Other positions you get better by training, or learning from a older player in their position. Goal keepers get better by playing experience and by playing in real games. It is hard for a keeper to simulate real games. That is why most back up keepers are older players and the young up and coming keepers go onloan.

Is it just me or is anyone else happy to see Man City spend there money so wrong. If bought right and essentuly became a more powerful chelsea, that would make this league even tougher. Chelsea bought right at the begining with the westham boys and Cech,Drogba, and Essein. Man City seem to not know how to spend their money and are just buying random “big names” rather than quality. Adebayor, I think wenger wanted them to blow 25 mill on him rather than trying for players like Eto’o. Santa Cruz, an old Veira, etc. Now inerested in Flamini and Gago. Please keep spending money dumb.

Szczesny definitely won’t be happy to sit around at Arsenal as third choice while Mannone goes on loan. He’s VERY ambitious, he thinks he can play for Poland at Euro 2012. That’s why he’s so determined to go on loan and get experience, he has said this many times in interviews.

Yeah, I agree with u Stephen, Vito is really impressive. He looks more confident than Fabiansky (& even Almunia IMO). I was disappointed when I saw Almunia is back in the team sheet against Spud. Mannone may had 2 average game against West ham and Alkmar, I give u that. But tell me, how many average games Almunia had before he get injured & after he regain his spot)?! Too many… But I guest that is one of the privilege u have as the 1st choice GK. Well anyway good luck to Vito. I hope he can improve him self during his loan spell, where ever that is..

Vito looked alot like Almunia to me. Gave up a couple really soft goals. Vito really only had 1 good game, and that was against fulham. To be honest, I really only like Schezny out of the 4 we have. Almunia is a good back up.

    @ Shane:
Yes Mannome did let in a few soft goals, but at least he is not 32 years old. But anyway, like u I also think GK is our weakest position and I also got the feeling (I never see Schezny playing in a full match, I only saw a video of him playing for Brentford) that Schezny is better than Mannone or any of the other 2 GK we have. Well, high hopes on him then..

Schez played in the carling cup vs Westbrom. Plus the reviews that we have been hearing about his loan spell and he has already played for the full national team and Poland isnt a country that is short on keeper. Yah I agree that obviously Mannone has time on his side so it is way to early to right him off.

Szczensy…is by far the best goalie we have right now and I would take a chance on him + fabiansky rather than persist with Almunia who is a very weak link in a nervous defence. Manone had a great game against Fulham but I have seen at least 12 of his preformances and Im not impressed. But Liam and Arsene will do whats best.
