Videos – Arsenal's Wellington Silva Goals & Dribble

Wellington Silva is an Arsenal player. The protracted transfer of the Fluminense forward finally came to an end last week but still little is known of the Brazil Under 17 international.

His four goals against Norwich City’s Under 16’s in a trial game alerted mass attention to the prospect who scored 51 goals in 19 games for Flu’s youth team. In our video special, we hope to shed some more light on the prospect nicknamed ‘Ciel’. The first video features Silva’s winner against Chivas in the Nike Cup at Old Trafford, while the second is a recent video of his winner in the Under 18 League Cup final. The third shows Wellington’s close control and dribble as he sets up a shot for Brazil in the Under 17 World Cup.

51 goals in 19 games is what Arsenal (as a team) had in the Premier League… You can’t be serious about that stat.

The figures are correct. Wellington scored four goals in one half for Arsenal’s Under 16’s. So him getting 51 in 19 games gives him a scoring ratio of almost 3 goals a game. This was for their Under 16’s which is at a slightly poorer level to England setup, so it’s not such a wild stat.

51 in 19 is immense but remember these are youth setup and they probably often play against much poorer sides. Fabregas used to get 20 goals a season for Barca youth team while playing DM

Bojan got over 500 goals before turning 17 for the barca youth sides sop its not that unbeleivable

the special talents always perform well when playing in the youth setups

these games could be finishing 8-6 so it would be easy for the striker to pick up goals

Jamie Gooner, the official website tends not to discloses youth signings to the general public, as they try to protect them from media/public pressure.

Like jt said any news on Merida. Hearing he has signed a5 yr deal with Atletico Madrid. He looked unhappy against West Ham when taken off. I know most players are but any news would be good. Is this the spanish press at their best fabeicating stories to unsettle players

Merida wasnt that special anyways but to lose him for nothing sucks. Dont we get some sort of compensation because of his age like Man vity are getting for Sturridge. Anyways, there is a reason why Ramsey was playing more then him. I hope this opens up a spot now so we can get Jack Collison of westham who I think would fit perfectly into our style.

This Wellington seems like a cross between Robinho (dribbling and skill) and Messi (explosiveness and close control). Interesting prospect.

If we’re honest, Merida has hardly impressed in the 1st team. There was minimal chance of him making it Arsenal, he is just way to weak on the ball and lacks compsure in tricky situations. There are also other players in his position who are far ahead of him and not that much older. He’s not the quickest either. I think the expectations placed on him were way to high, not eveyone signed from Barcelona is going to turn out like Cesc. He is a one-in-a-million player. Its disappionting to lose him for nothing, but its not a massive loss. Atleast now more oppotunities will be opened for more exciting youngsers.

I agree with what’s been said. It does suck getting nothing for him, but he’s slipped well down the pecking order by now (to players younger than him no less).

had hopes for him, understand him though…always supported Athletico Madrid and at Arsenal he has not exactly impressed at Arsenal. Still Song needed time but now excellent, still I think Song has strengths that required more time than Merida to develop, with his holding midfield physical and intelligent position, and Merida has not impressed with the strengths which he has

Actually Songs development was simply down to change in formation. He was never going to be a good def mid partner in a 4-4-2 because he isnt a quick, energetic type that can cover alot of ground like Flamini. Song is a powerful, calm players who is able to dominate a certain area on the pitch. When he was on lone at Charlton, he looked good. If we didnt change formations, then his future would be as a center back.

It is funny tho that Merida asumes that he will get more time there even tho they have some talented youngsters like Camacho who arent getting much time. By the way, if this deal is true then we need to just let him go. He isnt helping our first team so no point in staying around.

We’ll get some money for him as determined by a tribunal, presumably more than £2.4M because that is what we ended up paying Barcelona for him.

Merida is more suited to Spanish league hes not physically strong enough unfortunately hes not going to grind and graft when the going gets tough. When its a rainy, windy day i dont think merida has got the bottle to play which u need in the premiership. Its a real shame hes a very talented player i am sure he will get into the spanish team hes a sublime talent.

But Aaron Ramsey is just a better player than him and so is Henri lansbury so i dont see where he will get a first team place

Btw J, talking about transfers and all that jazz, do you know of any progress from Jamie Edge? we’ve lost of any news from him.

I am supporter of Fluminense and Wellington Silva is one of the jewels of fluminense it is are regarded by many here a new phenomenon ronaldo he is one of the biggest revelations of Brazil in recent years, the fluminense has always shown a lot of players, like (marcelo from real madrid , Thiago Silva AC Milan, Fabio and Rafael man utd) and Wellington has been integrated into Silva’s first team of the state, the wellington silva is a genius with the ball, it’s amazing he’s fit for the Arsenal first team, I think it has everything to be the best player in the world someday. it’s incredible!

say what they had found the wellington silva! please!
