SK Borča central defender Stefan Savić will be given a final chance to secure a contract with Arsenal by appearing in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Dagenham and Redbridge this evening. Arsène Wenger will be assessing the youngster and a decision will be made in the morning as to whether a deal will be agreed.
Young Guns revealed yesterday that Arsenal were closing in on the 6’2 defender, but reports emerged that a fee could be the sticking point in any potential deal. These rumours are wide of the mark, but Wenger still wants to have a final look at the prospect who would go straight into the first-team for next season.
League Two side Dagenham played North London rivals Tottenham yesterday – also in a behind-closed-doors game – which saw Eiður Guðjohnsen and Younes Kaboul debut. Stefan confirmed the news to Serbian TV whilst remaining unsure as to whether a deal will be completed.
“Today I will play part of the match against a club from the Conference. After which Arsène Wenger will be more clear to me whether I will pull on the Arsenal shirt again.”
“Will I sign a pre-contract? I don’t know. I will know later today or tomorrow. Arsène Wenger has the final word. I do not feel very certain, but I think that Arsenal have not accidentally kept me longer than planned.”
The 19-year-old, who won the Montenegrin Young Player of the Year award last term, posed for pictures at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and he has brought with him a huge media following from both Serbia and Montenegro. Confirmation either way is expected shortly.

our new understudy to Gallas I think!!!! Lets see how he played but Wenger wouldnt extend his trial if he wasnt interested in him.
comment by james
J, do we get a match report afterwards?
comment by hkm
This guy was 6’1″ yesterday. Is he still growing?
comment by Lee
Dagenham are a League Two side, not Conference!!!!!
comment by J.Sanderson
I don’t know where you read that, hkm. Yesterday’s article said he is 6’2 as does this one.

Stefan Savage, lol
got a ring to it

If he’s tall and agile and can defend that’s a good sign and I am sure that Arsene Wenger will already have had him checked out by his vast scouting team and as one commenter has already said Wenger wouldn’t have prolonged his trial. So good luck to him.

What’s the latest on the other guy we signed (the one we thought was 17 but is actually 23)?

I heard bendtner and walcott will get a run out as well they need a run out. BTW av ppl seen the highlights of bendtner vs villa? His touch is alot better know the ball is sticking to his feet

Great stuff guys, you really do come with news no one else finds!
Keep it up.
comment by BillikenGooner
I hope he really isn’t balking at a fee or the size of a fee. If Wenger thinks he is good enough, let’s not quibble over a few quid.

Guys you do know we could be left with 2 centre backs next season vermaelen and djorou.
Gallas, silvestre, campbell could all go. I think Wenger will sign a young centre half and a more experienced one.
You could see why he went for Smalling. The guy i really like is Jerome Boateng he looks like the new Rio ferdinand
comment by Dudu
Hoe about work permit? Will Savic get one?
comment by Dudu
John, I watch Boateng every weekend, I think he gonna be top class, but I think he’s not a new Ferdinand, one problem he has is that he is act to hastily very often, he always goes straight on the opponents player who have the ball, mostly he lose his opponent or tackles in very dangerous positions, but he will learn that sooner or later, he got the talent to become a top class defender, he can not only play full back, also at right back..
comment by hkm
Sorry, J. Didn’t notice it in your story yesterday. Saw the 6’1″ elsewhere. IMScounting was one place.
comment by Dagger Gunner
Good to see he’s already got a good grasp of the English leagues.
“Today I will play part of the match against a club from the Conference”
Er League 2?
comment by shane
You do realise that Boeteng is already known by all the big teams? He has already been linked with Man City and is a full german international at 20. It isnt like he is a secret.

En I stil tink bartley shud b given a chance he played very wel against Olympiacos.

TJ DA Goon….Whether you like it or not Man City is a big team when it comes to the transfer market considering they can pay any player 4 times as much as us.
comment by Slilley
i understand that Arsenal won the game against D&R 3-1 but Wellington was the main man?

comment by TJ DA GOON
Yes, big in the transfer market but that doesn’t all of a sudden make them a big club. They’re just pretenders right now. Maybe in 5 to 10 years they can be classed as a big club but right now in this country, only Liverpool and Man Utd are huge clubs followed by us (and we can’t even be classed as a ‘huge’ club yet). I like Everton because they have a class about them and go about things the right way but City and the Spuds are great pretenders who can only wish to be big clubs. The same goes for Chelsea who have tasted the odd success in their history until they started buying it when the dodgy Russian bought them. I hate all three and hope they fail miserably for many, many years to come.
comment by MikeE
he’s probably really 5’6″ like most of the squad!
comment by shane
TJ– We were talking about a trnasfer and in the transfer market they are a big club. And by the way, there a several “big clubs”. That was a general statement. You are taking the wrong point out of a comment. Historical prestige and a big club are 2 very different things. Anyways the point was every “powerful club” knows about him and is circling. Does the word Powerful work for you?
comment by OzGoonerGuy
to be honest i thought we already had good coverage at CB next year. beyond Gallas and Vermaelen, there’s Djourou, Campbell, Nordtveit. silvestre might go.
across the back 4, pedro might come in next year. and there’s possibly bartley, gilbert, boateng, hoyte to come through. don’t know if we’re looking at anyone else for RB.
comment by TS_Gunner
Does anyone know if he actually played against Dagenham?
comment by Sam
What about Harvard Nordveit.Out of sight, out of mind.this kid was supposed to be the next big thing?

“Arsenal have decided against signing the Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic, 19, from the Serbian Premier League team BSK Borca. Savic had hoped that Arsenal would sign him on a pre-contract today with a view to bringing him to the club in the summer on a permanent deal but, after a 10-day trial, Arsenal released him.”
comment by Taku
Boateng is staying at HSV! Norveidt is playing ok, but deeply in the relegation-fight with Nürnberg.
Savic is a top defender. He’s worth every cent of the 2.5m asking price.
Wenger should sign him.
