Clarification Of The Samuel Galindo Signing

Bolivian midfielder Samuel Galindo has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Arsenal in the summer, but in the meantime he will train full time at the club. The Gunners decided against completing the transfer in January as allegations of age cheating dogged the move and the clock timed out before any deal could be done.

Galindo is now on the payroll at Arsenal but he is not available to play in any professional games for the club. The club will review the situation in July where it’s expected he will sign a professional contract. UD Salamanca have already offered to take the prospect on a 36 month loan deal allowing him to complete the criteria for an UK work permit.

The Gunners were keen to check the validity of those age cheat claims which were published by Young Guns following information from a Bolivian TV network. The club are believed to be satisfied that he is 17-years-old while the player himself has said he will not sue anybody who reported the news (like Young Guns) but he is considering action against the TV network.

Samuel is currently training at London Colney on a full time basis and will until May. In May he will return to Bolivia and complete the paperwork required to apply for a Spanish passport and head to his new loan club, which looks set to be Salamanca. After a lengthy loan process, he will then return to Arsenal. However, he hopes to have earned 75% of available caps for his national team by December 2011, meaning he could return early.

Captain Cesc Fabregas has held lengthy talks with the 6 foot midfielder who made his Gunners debut against Dagenham and Redbridge a month ago. Arsenal have given Galindo an advance of over £500 but his future payments are unclear due to the complex manner of his ownership. 50% of the players rights are owned by a selection of English businessmen who arranged his trial with Arsène Wenger’s side while the family and his current club Real America also hold shares. All in all, the transfer fee paid to the different parties looks set to go around the £800,000 mark with Wenger breaking his policy of not signing players who are owned by different parties.

J.S. – Surely if he obtains a Spanish passport he does not need to go on loan, as this would technically make him an EU national?

This was the problem with Silvinho, he had a passport, so no work-permit, but the passport turned out to be dodgy. (Not saying that will happen again)

Can you clear this up please. Will he get a passport now or will he go on loan long enough to qualify for citizenship – which is the whole point of the long loans, but redundant if you already qualify.

It would only allow him to play in Spain. Once he’s there for three years he can apply for an EU passport and then move to Arsenal. The FIFA special talent work permit is an option but it’s not a very easy one to get granted.

i think maybe 18mths or 24 mths be more better
for him and arsenal, lets hope he’s a star for

    Cheers dude.

Why does a Spanish passport not allow free movement and employment within the EU?

There is a lot of buzz about Wellington starting now, do you think he will get a special talent permit?

    thanks again.

It just allows him to play in Spain. Spain has one of the shortest times to earn an EU work permit, 36 months, while for example Belgium it takes 5 years.

I think the situation with Wellington is different, but I’m yet to get that confirmed.

It’s probably not a passport he is applying for but a Visa. So it’s basically a work permit. This is good news, hopefully he can break into the Bolivian team and come here early. This age cheat story kind of changed most people’s opinion about him, at least it affected mine, but if he really is 17 then he could be a great prospect.

    Hi J.

Bit confused by your article. If he’s eligible for a Spanish passport then when he gets it he’s an EU national and entitled to freedom of movement so can come to the UK. Are you sure he’s not applying for a permit to ‘work’ in Spain under a Bolivian passport and then doing his three years to qualify as an EU player?

J – you are misleading people. Stone is right. Of course Galindo can’t get a Spanish passport just by walking into the country; it’s a VISA he’ll be getting. You can get a Spanish passport after three years’ residence if you’re from a Latin American country (which Galindo is), hence the 36-month loan deal. Once he has a Spanish passport, he will not need a work permit to work in the UK.

If he plays in 75% of his national side’s matches sooner than that, however, he will be able to qualify for a work permit. If he qualifies for a work permit, Arsenal will not need him to have a Spanish passport, so he will not need to stay in Spain for three years after all. As soon as he gets the UK work permit, he can play for Arsenal.

Apologies. It’s down to my wording of it.

By Spanish passport, I mean a temporary Spanish work visa.

Not misleading, but miscommunication on my part.

Doesn’t Wellington also have a strange ownership situation? I feel like between him and Galindo this is a case of Arsene “evolving” his point of view on a topic. There are companies now set-up in South America with the express purpose of joint-owning players with clubs, and to miss out on all that talent seems to be unnecessarily limiting.

If I were Galindo I would be so upset about these allegations of him lying about his age. I’d sue the pants off those networks and newspapers that conspired to tarnish his reputation. I know nothing is final and I was one of the first to say we shouldn’t sign him if he was lying about his age, but I sort of knew then, that those reports might not be fully accurate either. Hopefully he will be proven correct and he can move on and away from the people who were trying to hurt him!!

According to the Bigsoccer Forum’s Bolivian posters he was very impressive, so much so that there is a thread there called “We’ve got Galindo now…but what else is needed?”.

There is also a picture somebody took with Samuel, and he towers over this guy who is apparently 6’1. I would guess this makes him about 6’3 or 4, which is Bendtner sized.

Is it likely that he will not sign a contract and will leave in the summer? I hate to say it but I think that’s the most likely reason for Wenger leaving him out.

Galindo seems like a s.american version of Diaby. He plays on the centre left side of the pitch, has great feet, ball retention and dribbling ability, and of course he’s big and lanky too.
His development also will probably be quite similar to Diabys in that until he bulks up and puts on that extra muscle that comes at around 20-22yrs his ability will be mostly lost in the physicality of the prem league. Of course Diaby had his leg broken which delayed his progress some what so we might even see Galindo hit form a year or so sooner even.

Hopefully he’ll get his british working papers cleared sooner than expected so he can spend a year out on loan here getting used to the english brutality, sorry i mean game.

J, for you not to remove the post by Ad on 11:36 shows that you condone the use of racism. If the N word to have been used rather than the P word, this post would be overrun with retaliatory comments. I follow this blog like a religion and am understanding whenever a post of yours turns out to be incorrect due to the unreliability of third hand information, however this has disappointed me the most. Arsenal are well known to have a large ethnic following, including those who follow this site, if it seems that you are happy for racial slurs to be used on this blog, I believe that you shall shortly loose both credibility and following with a section of your public entirely unnecessarily.

I was just looking at the upcoming fixtures for us, united and chelsea and unless we win every single game I can’t see us winning it

    United – 63
    Fulham – W – 66
    Liverpool – D – 67
    Bolton – W – 70
    Chelsea – D- 71
    Blackburn – W – 74
    City – L – 74
    Spurs – W – 77
    Sunderland – W 80
    Stoke – W – 83

    Chelsea – 61
    West Ham – W – 64
    Blackburn – W – 67
    Portsmouth – W – 70
    Villa – W – 73
    United – D -74
    Bolton – W – 77
    Spurs – W – 80
    Stoke – W -83
    Liverpool – D – 84
    Wigan – W – 87

    Arsenal – 61
    Hull – W -64
    West Ham – W -67
    Birmingham – D – 68
    Wolves – W -71
    Spurs – D – 72
    Wigan – W – 75
    City – W – 78
    BlackBurn – W -81
    Fulham – W -84

I know some of them will drop points here and there but still I can’t see Chelsea with the team they have losing a game and the only game United may lose is against City when they play away other than that they have one game against Chelsea which I think will end as a draw if chelsea win it then its will almost turn into a one horse race.
For us we have Birrmingham away and Spurs away (most notable) and I think we can get surely get a draw against Birmingham and also a draw against spurs since they will be a bit tired after their FA cup game. We have City at home and the atmosphere we will put on I am sure we can win that one we might even have Van Persie by then, Fabregas and Gallas should also be playing. I think Bendtner holds the key to our title we need him to perform consistently like he did against Porto.

    Any comments ?

I know any team can beat any team this season but if you think about then those two game against (Villa and Spurs) look like a winnable game for Chelsea since they are at home and as for us I think the real test will be against Spurs (away) and City (Home).
i thought we will win against City since we are playing them at home and they have gone a bit more defensive since Mancini came in but that will be a very tough game since emotions will be high and tevez and Ade together can win any game hopefully not this one

If he gets a Spanish passport he will become an EU national and will be able to play in any European country including the UK. The only time a player needs to play in Spain for a few years is when they don’t qualify for a EU passport via parentage (i.e. Spanish parents, Italian grandparents etc).

@Andrew were you watching Espn Press Pass too why do these people always write us off
anyway you focused on this season I focused on what they said about our future and importantly what they said about us being too light upfront

So I started thinking what will our team will be next season considering as things stand now
I took into assumption that gallas and Merida will renew their contracts and we sign Chamak and Stefan Savic and wont sell any of our first team players

    So lets start from Attack
these are the players we should have next season Upfront
Bendtner, Van Persie, Chamak, Vela, Eduardo, Arshavin, Nasri, Walcott, Rosicky

Arshavin ———————- Chamak —————— Van Persie
(Nasri, Vela) ——— (Eduardo, Bendtner) —— (Walcott, Rosicky)

that’s plenty of height upfront and a good amount of cover if one gets injured.

These players should be Sold – Simpson (Celtic) and maybe Murphy
Players who will be Loaned – Sunu, Watt and Barazite (high hopes for him)

Now lets go to the Midfield
these are the players we will have in the middle
Denilson, Song, Norvedit (possibly), Cesc, Diaby, WIlshere, Nasri, Merida (I dont want to include Ramsey in their because as we know it take a lot of time to fully recover)

    ———————————– Song
    ————————–(Norvedit, Denilson)
    ———- Fabregas ————————————– Diaby
(Wilshere, Merida, Nasri) ————————– (Wilshere, Denilson)

Players who could be SOLD – Randall, Nortvedit (possibly)
Players who should be send on loan – Lansbury (EPL side), Merida (6 months), Frimpong, JET, Eastmond

Now lets go to the Defense
these are the players we will have in the Defense
Sagna, Eboue, Sol (upto wenger), Vermaelen, Gallas, Djourou, Stefan, Clichy, Gibbs, Traore

    Sagna ————————– Gallas ———————- Vermaelen ———————- Clichy
(Eboue, Djourou) ——- ((Djourou, Sol) ————- (Stefan, Djourou) —— (Gibbs, Traore)

Players who should be RELEASED next season —- Silvestre, Sendros, Bothelo, Gilbert, Hoyte
Players who will be Loaned Next Season – Coquelin, Bartley

So this what our team would look like next season

    —————————————————– Almunia —————————————————
    ——————————————- ( Fabianski, Martinez ) —————————————-
    Sagna ————————– Gallas ———————- Vermaelen ———————- Clichy
    ( Eboue, Djourou ) —– ( (Djourou, Sol ) —– ( Stefan, Djourou ) —– ( Gibbs, Traore )
    —————————————————— Song ——————————————————-
    ———————————————( Norvedit, Denilson ) ——————————————
    —————— Fabregas ——————————————– Diaby——————————-
    ——-( Wilshere, Merida, Nasri ) —————— ( Wilshere, Denilson )————————–
    ———Arshavin —————————- Chamak ——————————— Van Persie —–
    —– ( Nasri, Vela ) ————– ( Eduardo, Bendtner ) —————— ( Walcott, Rosicky )

SO these are all the players who will be Sold – Simpsons (QPR), Murphy, Randall
Players who will be Released – Silvestre, Sendros, Norvedit (possibily), Bothelo, Gibert, Hoyte
Players who will be Loaned – Mannone, Wzscheny, Bartley, Coquelin, Lansbury, Merida, Frimpong, JET, Sunu, Watt, Barazite

    PHEW
that took a while WOW I guess Andrew I wasn’t going to do it first but since you did something like this I thought I will chip in as well
One final comment we are going to KiCKA$$ next season I would love to see so called pundits from Soccernet Press Pass try and write this team off.
We are at least 3 man deep in every position and our attack is as lethal as you can be in EUROPE. Next season lets go for FA CUP, Carling CUP, EPL and Champions League.

But the imporatnt thing is to focus on this season lets try and win EPL and CL and we can try and better ourselves by winning 4 trophies next season.

Sol and Gallas have their contract run out in the summer and no signs are pointing towards them renewing it. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Bartley would replace Sol as the five choice or whatever. Gallas will have to be replaced though. And who is ‘Stefan’?

Also, Eastmond should have his name in there as third choice DM and I think Fabianski may leave but overall, a very good summary.

Stefan savic came to us on a trial and wenger was impressed by him and he will look to complete the deal in the summer when he will pretty cheap.
Bartley needs more experience to get into first team same for Eastmond, players need to go on a loan to further their development
I thought the same thing about Fabianski but Wenger has faith in him and I dont see him leaving
As for contracts, Gallas looks like he will stay and Sol has been a very good cover. I think Sol will get a pay as you play contract for another year. But he will be the fifth choice CB after Gallas, Vermaelen, Djourou, Stefan and then Sol

J I don’t normally comment on these sites but I wanted to reach out and say your work is always reliable, informative and appreciated by myself and many Gooners. When you inevitably get negative feedback from the few unthankfuls just remember that many Gunners fans think your articles are of fantastic quality. Keep up the good work mate!

The layout for your blog is a bit off in Camino. Even So I like your web site. I may have to install a “normal” browser just to enjoy it. :)
