Video – Emmanuel-Thomas Bags Brace & Looks To The Future

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is looking forward to a long and fruitful Arsenal career after scoring a classy brace on his first start for Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. The 19-year-old was applauded by both sets of fans when substituted seven minutes from the end in the 5-2 rout over Bristol City.

Emmanuel-Thomas had a spell with Blackpool earlier in the season where he scored twice, and that form appears to have been transported to Yorkshire. Now the leggy utility man admits he doesn’t know how long he’ll be away from Arsenal if he continues his excellent form.

“I don’t know how long I will be at Doncaster. Arsenal wanted me back after I spent a month with Blackpool earlier this season so we will have to wait and see.”

“Every game I play and all the hard work I do is aimed at making my dream of playing for Arsenal come true.”

Issues in the past with his attitude and professionalism now appear to be finally put to bed, thanks to some words from veteran defender Sol Campbell. The 35-year-old has taken ‘JET’ under his wing and offered some words to make sure the Forest-Gate born youngster stays on track for a fantastic career in football.

“Sol has been through the ups and downs of football and is a great person for a young player like myself to speak to. He knows the game inside out and has talked to me about how to live my life off the field and how to deal with various situations.”

Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll labelled Jay ‘perfect’ for Doncaster after the 5-2 win, of which you can see highlights of below. Operating just behind striker Billy Sharp, both goals displayed superb composure in front of goal.

I agree with you Chambwe, he has the ability to play as central striker. Tall, strong, good touch also in the air and his finishing is fantastic. The one who can play regulary faster the Wilshere because of his huge talent and versatility imo. Looks like in the coming years not only us but also Liam Brady will be satisfied with this guys as the primary aim will be reached (producing players for first 11).
Highlights are only for UK residents.. and that’s not me unfortunately! lol
Can it be downloaded and then maybe someone could upload it somewhere?

brilliant to see him scoring but IMO he looks so clumsy, the second finish only went in after he missed with a wild swipe first, he’s not going to get that much space and time in the EPL. all that siad he does look a real handful though, and would definitely cause problems for a lot of teams. let’s hope Sol can teach him to drive too, there’s much more to be a successful profesional than just scoring goals, you need to be a respected ambasedor too.

In my opinion, this guy can be playing as the next playmaker alongside Ramsey and Fabregas.

Arsenal is really fortunate to have so many talented youngsters available. We have youngsters in almost every other position in the team.

I am just glad to be an arsenal fan and this year would be our year!!

he will play a CM just behind Fabregas or Ramsey
More the DIaby type of player
For me he will never become a striker

Was that the first time you’ve seen him play, embryo? Mis-kick or not, “Clumsy” is one adjective I’d never associate with JET.

funny to see him playing as striker or second striker of late. I had previously favoured a conversion to right back as he reminds me a little of Glenn Johnson. We will see what Wenger has in store for him

    Hi,

Good website – I’m a regular reader. Quick question though: JET is only a day younger than Aaron Ramsey yet Ramsey did not go out on loan. Why has JET gone out on loan? Is it a mental thing? Is JET not ready for first team action?

    Kind regards,

    Scott

its the experience more than mental
Ramsey was playing regularly for Cardiff before he came here but JET hasn’t played a lot of first team football and he needs the experience to prove himself.

Ramsey costs 5 Millions and he has already played for Cardiff in the championship when he was 16 years old, this is a big thing and he could not go on loan as you see this season, he was very useful befor his broken leg.

I think we would make a great fullback. He’s got his chance now at Doncaster to show that he can play well in the attacking position, which I think he prefers. I know Steve Bould once suggested that he could be a centre back to this load deal could be a chance for JET to show they should think about developing him as a forward. Also, Aaron Ramsey didn’t go out on loan cos he was playing so well and ready to add something really positive to the first team. Great lad.

Scoring two goal in your first game is promising. Hope he continues and gets himself in the 1st team for next year.

    J. ,
My understanding is that is wasn’t just two goals, it was two goals and an assist in an overall outstanding performance, which is why fans from both teams applauded him off the field.

It’s obvious from the responses above that fans have a problem with Jay Emmanuel Thomas . This is strange considering how young he is and that he’s English. He delivered a very promising 2 gaols in a month-long loan w/Blackpool. Plays well in his few 1st team chances, scores a hat-trick and dominates in the reserves, and now 2 gaols and an assist in his first start with Doncaster in a performcance that sess both sets of fans applaud him off the pitch; not to mention scoring goals for fun and leading the U-18’s to an impressive double last season.

Yet, you have comments such as, “I think he would make a great fullback”…or…”funny to see him as a striker of late, I had favored him at right back”…or…”he looks so clumsy, the second only went in when he missed with a wild swipe”…or ….”let’s hope Sol can teach him to drive”…or…”there’s more to being a professional than just scoring goals”

HaHa.Ha!!!! You’d think the kid had never scored a goal or had an assist in until the ones this past weekend. “play him at fullback…” What…??? Alll he ever does is score goals. I’m pretty sure he was leading scorer for the U-18’s and he scored at Blackpool, he scored in the reserves, and now he’s already scoring at Doncaster.

Wake up people…I don’t think we’ve got a great fullback on our hands…LOL!!!!!!!

And the grudging complements make me laugh…criticizing one of his goals for having missed the first time, and dogging him aobut driving and so forth.

You’d think he was a prosing youth from another team to whom we could only offer grudging acknowledgment!

JET is a impressive player no doubt about that but the problem I have with him is that neither he or our coaching staff knows where to play him.
He has play as DM, CM, AM, WIngs, Striker if they can’t find a place where he can utilize his ability to the fullest then its a waste of his talent and he is talented.
I would love to see him play in the midfield but even you have to agree that he’s a bit lazy he hates chasing after the ball and usually just strolls back.
If he can improve his work rate then he will be one of the best CM in the country in a few years.

You know what mate? Thank you. Thank you for saving me from having a right old moan at some of these guys that can’t spot a great talent and get onto a young man like JET for stupid reasons. I personally think these comments are made by kids (they must be) so if that’s the case then forget this, but you guys seriously need to wake up. Stop hating on this precocious young talent. He’s a Gooner and a product of our academy with talent he is so obviously proving no mater where he goes and plays.

Yeah, everyone need to be more objective about JET. This is a different player we are looking at, forget about the old lazy utility youngster that u u used to see in him. Set a side all the prejudice u have on him & try to see how the loan experiences has developed him into a better player than he was before. I mean, come on ppl.. the kid deserve to have some credits for all the hard work he had put in.
Another thing, I don’t know about u guys, but after seeing him being lined up as a forward a couple of times lately (in the reserve games, FA cup fixture vs Stoke and during his loan spell at Doncaster) I am pretty sure that the coaching staff has already decided where to play him: Forward role, whether as the leading striker (like Bendtner) or as a 2nd striker who plays lil bit behind the leading striker.
      Cheers..

I think he would make a great fullback. Steve Bould also said that he would make a great centre back. This was meant to be a complement to him by stating how versatile he is. He recently admitted that he doesn’t have a set position and can play anywhere in midfield or attack. Just thinking about where he could end up, you’ve seemed to have decided to play him up front. Fair play.

Completely agree KC, JET looks amazing and to have someone that can play in so many position in the first team would be a great boost especially with our usual injury plagued seasons. He can play even more positions than Eboue.

For you that are talking about him missing the occassional chance I’d like to point out Bendtners performance at the weekend – I could finish better than that. I’d have much rather have JET as main striker in that game in hindsight than bendtner

    TJ,

…yea, good point. I often forget that many comments of that type could be coming from kids, in which case it’s kind of self-explanatory. Just hope that all AFC fans begin to realize that along with Ramsey, Wilshere, Gibbs, and Szczensy, JET could be another youth from the academy to become a long-term first team regular at the club. Our future is very bright.

    James,

Yes, agreed. There has been an unfortunate positional schizophrenia associated with JET’s early career, but it would appear that is changing this season. The coaches that work with JET seem to be narrowing things down to central midfield or in the whole behind the striker(s) as his best positions.. It seems whereever he goes those are two places he’s slotted into.

Don’t think he’ll be starting there anytime soon in the first team considering the world class youngster we already have there. But if he develops into a gifted and dangerous backup to Cesc, Nasri, Ramsey and Diaby, that would be just fine with me!

I agree he will either play in the Fabregas role or the Diaby role but I will say again this kid has everything needed to be a great player all he needs is the work rate.
And no one here can deny that he has everything else in his armory – height, physicality, ball control, passing, shot capability and I have always seen hi in the Diaby mould and I thinkhe would have been in the first team if his work rate was better.
If he improves on that in Doncaster then I have no doubt he will in thei first team next season and will probably be second or third place choice for Diaby or Fabregas atleast until Ramsey gets back.

      great winger in the making
haven’t seen a more talented players in years last was probably wilshere
This kid has pace, aggressiveness, dribbling skills, trickery and an eye for a goal and unlike Ronaldo and Messi his crosses are pretty awesome as well.
Can’t wait to see him in an Arsenal shirt but the best thing about him is after he scores a goal he does the same Kaka goal celebration.

With Gallas out for another month, I wonder if we should (and can) recall Bartley or Nordveit from loan? I trust Bartley much better than Silvestre, to be honest. There is no problem when Campbell is playing but Sylvester has been just awful this season, so awful. And Sol won’t be able to play 8 games in 32 days before Gallas is back. To recall either of them and have as fourth CB would be ideal but maybe not possible.

Norvedit will be the one who we should called back since he’s not playing for Nurmberg and Bartley is getting the experience he needs.
We can still rotate between Sol and SIlvestre if wenger chooses not to bring Norvedit back as I think we are not really playing a tough opponent and Sol and Silvestre are too good defenders so we should be OK but if one of them gets injured then we will be in trouble since none of them can play week in and week out
How long will Djoruru will be out for lets hope he gets back soon then we will have an amazing defense with

Djourou might be back in about month. That’s the same time as Gallas, so it doesn’t help very much. Plus he will take some time to get back in match fitness so couple of reserves games is all for him this season, I think.

Why cant he be MR. Versitlitty? often times i see very good versitile players become disadvantaged for their GOd given talents. Coquelin is versitile and Eastmond is too slow in wenger’s mind to be a full back, so he is placed in DM at the expense of coquelin. Thats my opinion, please dont bash me.

Also i feel that JET’s versitliy will make him master no trade effectively. But i see how nasri will fill in for fabregas, and he CAN DO THAT WELL, also he can play out wide on either flanks. Playing as a winger or CM, doesnt make him less effective. I think JET Is a special case and will make a great squad palyer. HE has Height Skill and Composure, i think Arsenal should use such a utility man to the best of our ability. See him as a fusion of players or multitalented instead of a underdeveloped player that doesnt master any role.
