Loanees – Emmanuel-Thomas Goal & Assist + Watt Stars

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

In The Premier League…

Jack Wilshere started and played 81 minutes for Bolton Wanderers in their 2-2 draw with relegated Portsmouth. Jack collected an assist when he raced to the wing to retrieve Matthew Taylor’s over hit free-kick, he then whipped in a left footed cross which was headed in by Ivan Klasnic. Kevin Davies made it 2-0 before Jack’s nonchalant play on the edge of the Pompey box was punished. He was robbed of possession, the Blues broke and Aruna Dindane halved the deficit. It finished 2-2.

In The Championship…

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas played 75 minutes, scored and collected an assist as Doncaster edged Scunthorpe in the Lincolnshire/Yorkshire derby at the Keepmoat Stadium. After the Iron took the lead, Emmanuel-Thomas chested down a long ball and from the edge of the area, the leggy forward lobbed Ireland international Joe Murphy in spectacular fashion. Queue more of the loan Gunners trademark dancing. Both sides traded goals before a deft flick from Jay released James Hayter to score Donny’s third. They went on to win 4-3.

Jay Simpson started on the bench again as his stuttering finish to the campaign continued. He replaced teenager Antonio Germain with 64 minutes left but again struggled to get involved. QPR won 1-0 after a stunner from Mikele Leigertwood.

Gilles Sunu picked up an injury after starting for Derby County against Bristol City.

Henri Lansbury wrapped up another 90 minutes for Watford as they assured themselves a place in the Championship for next season. Henri operated in central midfield and put in a solid shift in a fixture which was comfortable all the way for Hornets.

Kyle Bartley earned a recall to the Sheffield United side as they hosted Swansea City at Bramall Lane. The powerful centre back kept a clean sheet despite some minor scares as United ran out 2-0 winners.

In League One…

Sanchez Watt earned a rare start and played 81 minutes for Leeds United in an amazing fixture against Mark Randall‘s MK Dons. Watt partnered Luciano Becchio up front and after just 23 minutes, the partnership showed some promise. Sanchez stole the ball from the centre back and crossed for Becchio to open the scoring. The young Gunner was involved again shortly after, when he fell on the ball in the box and Gradel lashed across the ‘keeper and in. Then Mathias Doumbé became the first of three Dons players sent off after a horrible two footed challenge on Watt which left the prospect needing treatment.

Wojciech Szczesny played the full game in a 1-1 draw with Luke Ayling‘s Yeovil. Szczesny could do nothing about Gavlin Tomlin’s fine penalty as he sent the Pole the wrong way from 12 yards. Ayling came off the bench in the 42nd minute and joined Wojciech in losing his clean sheet as Sam Saunders smashed in a free-kick.

Elsewhere…

Håvard Nordtveit started at right back and completed the 90 minutes as their relegation battle was dealt a blow with a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Pedro Botelho didn’t feature in Celta Vigo’s 1-0 defeat to Villareal B.

JS do you think henry has done enough to get a chance next season? How would u rate his time at Watford has he, like bendtner an gibbs did, shown that he can come back an fight for a place next season? Or does he not look up to the standard arsenal required?

Wasn’t Gibbs unimpressive in his loan spell?

Arsene Wenger said last season that Henri and Jack Wilshere were two future Arsenal and England players. So I think he’s certainly going to get a chance, then it’s up to him. He’s very different to the type of players we have at Arsenal so whether he’ll fit it, it’s too early to tell. Big talent, though.

Are you serious Lansbury is class I think he is the next gerrad for england no doubt about that I dont want to pressure on the lad but this guy is one of the best prospects arsenal have at the momment and same goes for england. He’s phsycially strong, very technical and his long range capability makes him a perfect CM or a DM. I think Wilshere, JET, Lansbury, Bartley, Tech9 wil make it into arsenal first team in a couple of years time and then yes its upto them whether they take it or not.
YG is true abot Merida signing with A. Madrid

I presume he has done enough to get a Premiership loan deal? The likes of Wolves and Newcastle presumably looking for a great young playmaker for next season already. (Or hell, if Delph is out for 8 months, we should try and persuade O’Neill to take him, knowing that Milner, Sidwell and Petrov isn’t enough but he only needs cover until Delph is fit again).

Agree that he’s done really well this season. He’ll likely be back on loan in the Championship next season, but I think a prem loan deal with one of the bottom-feeders is a reall possibility and would be great for his development. He’s done well.

J, Don’t know if you’ve seen this but there’a nice video of Afobe up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXQY3wvhPSc

Also think you’re doing WIlshere a disservice there, he had a lot of other good moments: brilliant volley and mazy dribble into the box. The Portsmouth lad got nothing of the ball and all of Jack – it should’ve been a foul and they shouldn’t have countered and scored.

Frankly, JETs play at Doncaster has been excellent. I belive he’s got 6-7 goals and 4 assists in his short time with them. He’s done extremely well by any measures.

I hate when people bring up random names when there’s virtually no info on the player and are purposefully ambiguous. Isn’t Angha u16 captain?

JS With the new home grown rule and more importantly the 25 man squad limitation coming into force next year. What chance do you see of any of these players making the step up into the first team given that we currently have an active first team squad of 27 players (and that number doesn’t include eastmond), so assuming both Silvestre and Marida leave in the summer. That leaves a dead mans shoes situation, with most fans and pundits of the option that we need to make at least 2 to 3 top signings. So if chamakh comes, either eduardo or vela goes, if we get a new CB, he’ll replace campbell or Gallas and if we do get the keeper everyone knows we need, that’ll be Almunia out the door and no room Szczesny. Ironically for the team that has been most criticised for it’s lack of home grown talent i think this is adding a hurdle for players like wiltshire and Lansbury, not taking one away. I’m interested in your view of which players you think can break into the first team over the next couple of years and who they are likely to displace? Also do you know how this will effect Wenger’s policy for picking youth players for the Carling cup. In theory the 11 or 12 members of the youth team how made it into the squad and made up half the starting line up for the team who beat west brom in the first round of this years cup, wont be eligible to play in next years contest.

I dont understand this rule can anyone explain it to me?
I thought you need to have atleast 8 players in your team that have played with the club for atleast 3 years. if this is right then do they mean the first team or the starting lineup and I thik we will be ok since most of our players have been playing with us for a good amount of time.
It will be teams like City and Chelsea who will suffer the most since they will surely bring in more players

Players under 21 dont count against your squad numbers so not that big of a deal. I just think the rule is dumb and really benifits other leagues rather then the prem league. The prem league is a very physical league so you need a deep squad to compete plus there are more injuries in England. This new rule has a big affect on the champions league.

It’s 3 HOMEGROWN players which mean being involved with a player’s education 3 years before their 18th birthday. Arsenal have quite a few first teamers that would fit into this: Fabregas, Djourou, Clichy, etc.

Don’t think the new rule will be a problem just yet.

Max of 25 players over 21, 8 must have been with an English or Welsh club for 3 years or more before they turned 21.
Unlimited number of players under 21.

“Clubs will be able to supplement their squads with unlimited additional players under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences.”

We have 30 players listed in the first team on the Arsenal homepage, but Walcott, Vela, Szczesny, Gibbs, Traore, Ramsey, Wilshere, and Merida will still be considered as under 21s at the start of the next season. So, we can probably add 3 players to the current squad, but it will definitely need to be trimmed the season after when Walcott, Vela, Gibbs, and Traore will be classed as over 21s.

Can see some natural attrition taking care of some players like Gallas, Almunia, Campbell, Silvestre over the next two seasons. Maybe even Rosicky and Arshavin. I guess we probably don’t have to worry too much at this stage.

Biggest headache will probably be in 2012 when most of our FAYC and Academy League double winning team will be classed as over 21s. They’ll need to prove that they’re good enough to be in the squad before then or it’s bye bye to their Arsenal careers.

J we read week in and week out about all the Arsenal players on loan and some weeks they do exceptionaly well and others not so good.
I do not get to see many of the matches they are involved in etc.
Who in your opinion has a serious chance of actualy breaking into the first team next season and why ?
Also the same applies, who will NOT make it and why ?

One of the best bits about loaning is players have some good weeks and some bad weeks and they learn what to do and what not to do. It’s like trial and error really.

It’s impossible to really predict who will go on and make it in the first-team because the summer will no doubt bring changes so gaps could open up that might not have been there. JET has been great on loan but he doesn’t have a set position or a real area he can play which suits Wenger’s formation. So although he’s doing the best on loan, he might not make it because of the way the team is set out.

I think it’s safe to say Kerrea Gilbert, Mark Randall and Gavin Hoyte are on their last legs as Arsenal players. For the simple reason that they’ve not taken their chances.

From what I know, there is no situation update. He has offers from Atletico and Arsenal but has not decided. I think one of the Spanish papers jumped the gun a little and so did NOTW.

great website mate read it a lot and interesting to hear about the young guns. Just wondering recently about Vela and Barazite, they are 2 of my favorite players and have great technique and bright future but wenger isnt giving them much playing time, do you think they will get some more chances next year? and do you feel they have a long future with us?

Footballshirtculture.com has leaked the ManU home and away shirts (not full kit) so I’m thinking ours aren’t far behind!!!:D I know this doesn’t have anything to do with anything, but I’ve been waiting a long time to see what it looks like. It’s a pretty reliable site too, even though I don’t think they got the united away kit right. It looks more like a training kit haha. I didn’t buy the 2009 or this year’s kit because of the red sleeves, but if the sleeves are white on this one (which I’ve heard they are) I’m deffinitely buying it!!! Man I’m so pumped. I know it’s only a kit, BUT we have one of the most unique shirts in world football, and returning to the old design is awesome!! (oh yeah, the United kits suck LOL)

JS as this new rule about 25 players you have to pick and other under 21 are like extras. I know people like Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramey, Eastmond are in the first team. But what others do you think will be given a chance and will be with the extras for first team. E.g. Likes of Lansbury, J.E.T etc. ?
