Afobe Stunner Earns Arsenal Point In North London Derby

Arsenal’s Under 18’s played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the mini North London derby this morning. Conor Henderson put the Gunners in front before Dean Parrett and John Bostock turned the game on it’s head. However, a late Benik Afobe strike earned a fair draw.

The Gunners boasted a significantly less experienced side, with a collection of a scholars and newly signed professionals facing the likes of Parrett and Bostock, both of whom have experienced League One football on loan this season. Yet it was Arsenal who exploded out of the traps and stuck the first blow in beautiful fashion. Henderson curled a fantastic left footed free-kick into the net.

Before the break slack defending allowed Tottenham the chance to level from the penalty spot. Parrett proved to be spot on from 12 yards, making it 1-1. Shortly after the restart Bostock slammed home to put Spurs in front in a great spell. In the closing stages Arsenal pressed and pressed and eventually, with virtually the last kick of the game, Afobe smashed home a stunning volley from just inside the box to earn a share of the spoils.

What nationality is Henderson? He seems to have played for both Ireland and England

He is born in England and played for England at school boy level. He has since decided to switch to Ireland and is a current Under 19 regular for them.

What a daft question. He plays for Arsenal, so he can’t be English.

This is off topic I know, but Wilshere played about 80 minutes and picked up an assist in Bolton’s match against Portsmouth! I know it’s Portsmouth, but an assist is an assist!!

Yuup but he also lost the ball on the edge of the box when he should have passed and Portsmouth broke and scored. Another important learning curve for Jack.

      @ J.Sanderson
Thats a bit hypercritical isnt it? He lost the ball on the edge of the portsmouth box. The bolton team should know portsmouth are quick on the counter attack and been prepared for it. Anyone can lose the ball on the edge of the opponents penalty area, its nothing to do with experience and you cant blame jack at all for that goal. If he lost it just in front of the back four, having dropped particularly deep to collect the ball, Id see your point, but he lost it so high up the pitch. Every side should be prepared to prevent a counter attack from that position, bolton just werent tactically aware enough as a side.

Yeah I didn’t read a match report or anything. I just looked at my fantasy team points and saw that he had an assist haha. It could have been an assist on an own goal for all I know.

Who? Arsenal? the Arsenal side is really young and inexperienced compared to Tottenham’s. Ours are only just breaking in the Reserves, most of there players have been out on loan.

I know some of their players have been out on loan, but they had 6 last years U18 players, 3 first years and 2 scholars.

So if we had Freeman, Henderson, Deacon and Evina we weren’t THAT much younger. But a bit younger yes. But why doesn’t anybody know our team? Arsenal.com hasn’t mentioned the game at all yet.

Next season the Premier League will introduce new rules which state that all clubs must include eight home-grown players in their first-team squad. It means we will get to see more of eastmond, wilshere, jet and gibsy and maybe bartley and cruise even, don’t you think J? how many in the first team can be considered homegrown apart from cesc or clichy???

every person who has played 3 years for us is considered home grown so almost everyone is home grown for us except Veramelen and Arshavin

Quite a few are classed as home grown, I think in this seasons first team squad, these would be considered:
    Cesc
    Theo
    Denilson
    Ramsey
    Song
    Wilshere
    Djourou
    Clichy
    Mannone
    Gibbs
    Traore
    Merida
    Bendtner
    Chesney

and maybe Vela, I’m not sure about him what with his extended spell in Spain but still belonging to Arsenal.
