Botelho Left With Uncertain Future After Celta Fall Out

Troubled Arsenal utility man Pedro Botelho faces an uncertain future after falling out of favour with loan club Celta Vigo following an ugly spat with manager Eusebio Sacristán last weekend. Botelho is yet to play for the Gunners due to work permit issues but his spell in Spain with both Celta and UD Salamanca have courted controversy.

The 20-year-old’s latest complaint comes after being substituted in a 2-1 win over against Cádiz. Pedro, clearly furious at being replaced, berated Sacristán on the touchlines and was told to keep away from training. He was not included in the side for Saturday’s win over Girona but has now returned to training.

“No player likes to be replaced, it was just a moment of rage. We learn from our mistakes and I will continue to work hard to correct my mistake.”

The youngster has been learning a central midfield position after spells at both left back and left wing. A poor performance against Cádiz rilled the fans in a season which, despite a great Cup run, will go down as a disappointing one. Yet Botelho refuses to be down about the game and is instead looking to the future.

“The fans pay to see the best of Celta and I’m disappointed because we didn’t entertain them. I’m not going to make excuses but while it is clear that I’m playing a lot, I’m not having the continuity that I require. My season has still been a good one and I’m not going to throw it away after one bad game.”

“From now on, everything will stay the same until June 30th and then I will think about the future. I have to talk to Arsenal, my agent and my family to decide.”

A return to North London in some capacity is imminent. A meeting is scheduled in the coming weeks to determine what the future holds. After rows and allegations at Salamanca, Pedro joined Celta Vigo hoping for a fresh start. Now they’ve closed the door and it seems that if he’s not playing at Arsenal next year, another Segunda side will take up the option to loan the Brazilian.

hmmm…how far away is Botelho from really pressing for first team minutes, Jay? For some players it’s not so much trouble to have a couple loan spells, but he’s now had 2 that have gone awry. Is it just frustration on his part to be on loan, is it a maturity issue, is it a developmental issue (as in he’s not developing quickly enough to actually get into the Arsenal first team)? It sounds like we’re rapidly approaching the fish-or-cut-bait point with him.

He was supposed to be the next Roberto Carlos, but he’s too much of a hard partier. Sleeping with the club chairman’s daughter is no way to guarantee your future in a side :P
And now, fighting with the coach.

SEASON IS OVER TRANSFER SPECULATION BEGINS HOPEFULLY WENGER WILL MAKE A COUPLE MORE SIGNING AFTER CHAMAK

Arshavin ————-– Chamak ————— Van Persie
    —————–———– Fabregas ————————–—
    ——————– Melo ——— Song ———-–———–
    Clichy ——– Vermaelen ——–– Cahill —-—– Sagna
    —————–—————– Green

GK – Sell Almunia or Loan Fabianski and then buy Robert Green. Good players and Wojeich can take over in a couple of years and Green can become second choice. I choose Green because he’s a good keeper, 30 and will solve or bandaid this goalkeeping problem until Wojciech Szczęsny is ready to take over in a couple of years. Hopefully not more than 5-6 million

CB – Cahill is a very good choice, strong, powerfull, tall and we have a good relation with Bolton. Maybe Wilshere and Vela on loan to Bolton will sweeten the deal and we might get him for less than 10 million

DM – Melo might be a good buy since Diaby or Denilson are not ready yet for it yet. Melo is optional maybe not with all the talent we already have in midfield. I think this transfer wont happen as Diaby has showed his true class this season and might do better next season.

ST – Chamak is already coming and will surely be a great addition

Not more than 20 million (30-35 million if we go for Melo) of spending and we can recoup most by selling Eduardo and either Fabianski or Almunia. We already should have money left from selling toure and Adebayor

I agree with those signing and if go through with it then we will have plenty of options in all areas I dont see changing the 4-3-3 formation

GK – Green, Fabianski, Mannone and Szschesny
      LB – Clichy, Gibbs, Traore
      RB – Sagna, Eboue
      CB – Cahill, Vermaelen, Djourou,Sol, Norvedit/Savic
DM – Song, Denilson, Melo (maybe), Eastmond
      CM – Fabrgeas, Diaby, Wilshere/Ramsey
RW – Walcott, Rosicky, Van Persie, Nasri, Bendtner
LW – Arshavin, Vela, Nasri, Rosicky
ST – Chamak, Bendtner, Vela, Van Persie

      Sell – Eduardo and Almunia
Release Gallas, Silvestre and Sendros, Gibert, Bothelo

Arsene Wenger will NOT force Samir Nasri out of the starting XI, he has recently said that he should target Pires’ success and there’s no way anyone can do that from the bench. Expect maybe 2 signings, with only 1 really making the starting XI.

we play around 55-60 games a year right and most of our players are injured at some time or another. 2 players for each position means a player will get atleast 30 games in one season
There’s also rotation and if we had been able to rotate our midfield most diaby then he would have not had a dip in his performance because he has been our best player in quite a few games.

Two of three signings I think will strengthening the squad, and we don’t necessarily need to sell anyone….I would like to see

    In:
    Gordan – Sunderland – GK (£8-10m plus)
    Parker – West Ham – (£8m)
    Chamakh – TBC – (Free)
Bring Steve Bould in as assistant manager as he is brilliant, Give Rice the reserves job full time as he knows the system inside out and can have a challenge to manage players.

    Out:
Gallas – inevitable he’s going to leave
Silvestre – Has to go, we could’ve played with Senderos when Vermalaen got injured, he has to be better than Silvestre
Arshavin – will probably leave too as I reckon someone from Spain will put in a bid for him and we’ll accept
    Play 4-3-3

    GK – Gordan*
    RB – Sagna and Eboue
    LB – Clichy/Gibbs
    CB – Vermalaen/Campbell
    CB – Djourou/Senderos/Bartley
    CM – Song/Eastmond/JET
    CM – Cesc/Nasri/Denilson/
    CM – Parker*/Diaby/Ramsey
    RW – Walcott/Wilshire/Lansbury
    LW – RVP/Vela/Traore/Barazite
    CF – Chamakh/Eduardo/Bendtner/Simpson

We need to toughen up the spine of the team, the wide areas will allow flexibility for those in contention, speed vs Skill depending on the opponent. Blood a few hungry youngsters like Lansbury, Eastmond and Wilshire. Simpson should stay and work hard he doesn’t have the technical abilities but has a goal poachers instinct and could prove a massive hit for us.

We do need a new centre back but like last year I can’t predict who Wenger would go for, but they must have pace, heading and passing………..

All I hope for are no injuries to any of our players throughout the world and pre-season

    Keep it real Gooners

Your prices are way way way to low! why wold anyone sell Gordon for 8-10M? Hes a good keeper you know. And why would they want to sell him in the first place? Sometimes i think people do not understand the valye of player pluss they think its only for arsenal to march in and grab the players. Parker you may have to pay around 10M for though West Ham are skinned and maybe bullied into a lower price…
But honestly guys.. when people write this huge mathematical diagram with the players costs… They are just insane most of them. “adler 15M, Boateng 15M out Eduardo 10M and someone els 10M and that makes it easy to shop”. What world does these guys live in???

I mean it was reported Tevez cost in the region of 47M that is rubbish! he was much cheaper but because the sun posted that in an article last year people belive it. Sometimes it scares me how insanly easily fooled British youth are today…. write it on the backpages of the sun and it is the law.. Look at the way people treated Eduardo “the diver”. And you all buy into it! Get a grip people!

Why do we need Parker? He had a good year now all of a sudden we should sign him. Our center midfield isnt something that needs strengthening.

Why would you say senderous is staying..lol. Anyways, clearly our issues are depth at striker- answer Chamahk. By the way he is not coming as the starter. Don’t know why people keep thinking he is?

goalkeeper- obviously this is an issue and really has cost us the title. I hope for Diego Alves of Ameria, but will see. Schezny is the long term answer though.

centerback- Obviously we dont know who will resign but atleast 1 centerback should be brought in. Cant play games with a 35 year old (even tho he played good and a 32 years old), and expect to win titles.

Winger- We need a winger that can take on players and link up as well. My hope is Eden Hazard or Mauro Zarate. Dont know if this will happen tho because we have Walcott, Nasri, Arshavin, Eboue, Rosicky and Vela. All these are good players but only Arshavin combines the 2 qualities needed for a 4-3-3 winger.

Everything else in our team is good and ready to win titles now.

I could see Sagna leaving though because he has value and is good but definetly can be replaced for half the cost of what we could get a new one for. Sagna is good but after a few seasons you start to realize that he isnt effective at all in the final third which you need for a 4-3-3 right back. His crossing isnt pin point at all. He always randomly floats them in.

Consitant peformances are why we really dont have “out and out” wingers. The mentality of a cm is generally one of a guy who plays 100% every time while wingers blow hot and cold, flatter to deceive or any other cliche ye would like to use.

John we dont need wingers, wingers isnt out problem at all. I rate Nasri, Rosicky and Arshavin as brilliant options on the wing we dont traditional wingers. Are main problem is in defence and was in having a main striker next season with a team of:

    New GK
    Sagna New CB Vermealen Clichy
    Diaby Song Fabregas
    Van Persie Chamakh Arshavin

we will be sorted. Im far more concerned about us not getting a new CB or Goalie than i am Wingers. If Wenger doesnt get a new GK or CB i cant see us challenging next year. It will be annoying as every Arsenal fan knows that what we need Wenger is just being far to stubborn.

Yes we do need wingers. That is a huge issue in our team. Arshavin is class but other then him, in a 4-3-3 you need a certain type of winger and they must be top class. Wingers are expect to take on full backs and account for a large portion of the goals. Havent we learned anything from Barcelona. I am pretty sure they have how to play the 4-3-3 down by now.

We dont have proper 4-3-3 wingers.

Walcott- Pacey, but is made for a 4-4-2. He doesnt link up well. He is really just to made to use pace to run down the line and cross balls in but in a 4-3-3 there is only 1 striker so no point in 40 crosses a game.

Nasri- Really a central attacking midfielder, and is good as long as you dont have another player like him on the other side. If so you have 5 central players which meens you lose the ball in wrong positions plus you arent balanced and become predictable.

Eboue- Is actually pretty effective in this formation which shows you if you have a player that is actually a winger, you could do great things. He is good but really lacks the true top quality but atleast he runs at defenders.

      Rosicky- same as Nasri.

Vela- I believe he could be good if we play him on the right side. Kind of like when Barca plays a striker out wide. He can come in a score goals.

This Pedro sounds like a real handful. I wonder if he is worth the botherr. Is he?? I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while now. Ever since I heard that he was having problems. I do agree with John that we need wingers, but not before we fix our goal keeping and part of our defense.

I couldn’t agree more mate. Green is shit. He’s about as good as Almunia. People should try watching highlights of some West Ham games this past season and see how many times this clown actually cocks-up. It will seriously be Almunia all over again. The odd good game but in the main, calamitous. I do not want Green at Arsenal.

As for the CB situation, i’m willing to bet that Wenger has identified Zapata as the man to partner Vermaelen next season. He will fit into that back four like a glove. He’s about 6″2, very fast, very strong and reads the game well. Obviously he has the odd flaw but he’s still very young for a CB and has got a lot of improving to do. He can become an icon someday. Brilliant talent.

I have only seen Botelho play once (against Villareal I believe 3/4 months ago), and he did look skillful. He was on the left-side of a diamond-shaped midfield and was generally not troubled with the ball at his feet and hungry when not in possession.
Now obviously this was 1 game, plus it was against “prestigious” opposition so he may have been poor and lazy all year I would not know. To have him start the game at this position against Cazorla is a positive sign though.
Vela did shine at left midfiled during his time in Spain and is living proof that there is no correlation between that and having an immediate impact in the EPL so you never know.
I like to have tricky left-footed dishing out proper passes and crosses from left midfiled in a squad (e.g. Malouda, Giggs, Bale) so after that game I was keen on seeing him come back. I guess it would depend who we already have to provide cover in this role. At the moment, Wilshere, Vela, and to some extent Traore and Gibbs can do that so we will see who remains come start of the season.

Just in case you didnt know, Carlos Vela played the same in spain as he does on the wing for us. The only difference is people focuss on him and watch him every game cuz he is at a big club. In spain for a smaller team, most people only saw very little of him which usually was a few highlights. I bet you remember the nutmeg on sergio ramos.
